Trend Experimentation with Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick & Lipgloss ($50 Visa Gift Card Giveaway!)

June 28, 2013

Makeup is all about experimentation. After all, how are we to find the next big trend if, as consumers, we don’t try a few things out for ourselves? You’ve got nothing to lose!

The easiest way to try your hand in trend experimentation is with your lips. After all, if you have to wipe it off and start over you won’t ruin the rest of your face, so might as well start with the easiest. Once you get used to colors and formulas that work you can move on to cheeks and, what I find to be the most fun, eye looks.

Below we begin our research with the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick & Lip-gloss.

(L-R: Super Lustrous Lipsticks in Lovers Coral, Rich Girl Red, Fuchsia Shock; Super Lustrous Lip gloss in Pango Peach, Pink Pop, Sugar Violet)

Starting off with the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, I found that the shades I tried applied on like silk and felt very moisturizing. There is a LiquiSilk™ formula in this product which seals in color and softness. There are 10 stunning and on-trend shades for you to choose from and I have three swatched below for you to add to your list of lemmings!

Lovers Coral

A very subtle and classy tint of coral.

IMG_8296

Rich Girl Red

A super low-key and wearable wash of sheer red

IMG_8319

Fuchsia Shock

A sheer fuchsia shine that is just vibrant enough

IMG_8314

The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Shine formula is a great way to dive into the world of vibrant colors without it being too scary (like up a creek without a paddle). You can layer the shades heavily for pigment (like the swatches above) or just wear a swipe of color for a fresh lip tint. Work your way up to the level of loud that you’re most comfortable with.

If the lipstick colors are still too bold for you, the Revlon Super Lustrous Lip-gloss makes for an excellent addition to your pretty pout. These glosses are non-sticky (woooo!) and the slight shimmer gives off an excellent plumping effect. The non-irritating formula boosts hydration using Vitamin E and Avocado oil to add instant moisture.

The Super Lustrous Lip-gloss is available in 12 shades and I was able to swatch and share three of them with you!

Pango Peach

A very slight peach gloss with added shimmer for dimension

IMG_8263

Pink Pop

A sheer fuchsia with no shimmer, like jelly

IMG_8268

Sugar Violet

A sheer gloss with a purple tint and a bit of purple and fuchsia shimmer

IMG_8281

The lip gloss lean sheer, with Pink Pop carrying the most pigment of the three I tried. However, you can always layer to add more color or place it over top of a coordinating lip shade to darken or awaken the color of the gloss.

I like to mix coordinating shades, but nothing is stopping you from pairing a purple gloss over a coral lippie. If the gloss is sheer enough, it’ll work. And, if it’s not the shade for you, who cares?! Wipe it off, try something new! Below I paired the lipsticks and lip-glosses to swatch and give you a few ideas to try out:

    Mandatory comment:
This may have already been said or obvious to some, but getting enough sleep is key to staying healthy and has major anti-aging properties. Scientists recommend getting 8hrs and 15mins in 65 degrees pure dark room. Aim for as close to this as you can get. I do and people always tell me that they can’t believe I turn 40 next month! 😀

My best kept beauty secret is exercise! A good cardio session gives you color and you sweat out all the grossness from your pores!

Here’s my tweet, as well! https://twitter.com/anshaffer/status/350671382696296450

The best foot soak is one bag of green tea and one bag of mint tea. Let it steep and soak for 10 minutes. Your feet will thank you.

My Best Kept Beauty Secret is that I use Eye Primer on My Eyebrows so they stay in place the whole day and the color of the pencil and powder doesn’t fade and has something to adhere to.
