During a post I did for SheSpeaks and P&G I received a few CoverGirl items and have been dying to rip them open and give them a go.
The CoverGirl items included were the Lash Blast Volume Mascara (shown here in Black), the Outlast Double LipShine (shown in 295 Sheerly Nude) and the Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner (shown in Espresso).
The Lash Blast Volume Mascara ($8.99 at Ulta) is somewhat of a drugstore classic that 90% of users rave about. For me, this mascara works pretty well, my lashes look good and the price is right, but after the first use I’ve found that it’s prone to flaking. I would reach for the new Clump Crusher before this one. Lash Blast Volume Mascara is available in four shades.
The Outlast Double LipShine ($8.99 at Walgreens) went on easily and the color side dried quickly. The glossy side wasn’t very moisturizing so I needed two coats. This stayed on okay, but caked within a few hours. I wasn’t super impressed with it, but I did love the color. It’s shown below in Sheerly Nude.
The Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner (on sale for $4.99 at Walgreens) felt a little dry at first, but did go on easily and looked great. I tried out the shade Espresso and it’s a deep brown shade that will be usable for a variety of looks. It lasted all day and it definitely worth the price.
Lately it seems like drugstore brands like CoverGirl and the like are really upping their game and are becoming high competition for these prestige designer brands in terms of quality (for the most part), and of course the pricing can’t be beat.
What are some of your favorite items from CoverGirl, or drugstore makeup brands in general?
I agree that drugstore makeup is competent quality wise, some items are even better than most high end, however usually the color selection is played safe and meant to serve the general taste which either ends up being boring or lacks a touch of sophistication… In my humble opinion 🙂
