We’ve all heard of BB Creams, everyone has them now… but MAC has upped the ante with their Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30. Yes, folks, a compact. While in New York earlier this month I was able to test this beauty out at the Pro store, and loved how it perfected the skin. It had to come home with me!
What the MAC website says about the Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30:
Face prepping and priming in a solid cream formula that perfects, protects, evens out and illuminates the complexion for flawless results. Creamy emollients and optical pearl pigments blend with powerful SPF protection. Natural, semi translucent shades in a compact.

This product worked well in terms of prepping the face for makeup and has a semi-sheer coverage. When using this it actually enables me to cut products out of my makeup routine, since this works as my primer as well as my foundation. I wasn’t a fan of using the included round sponge to apply, but found that a stippling brush worked the best for smoothly applying and buffing out the cream.
Unfortunately, the Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30 is only available in three shades – Extra Light (pale alabaster), Light (pale ivory) and Light Plus (light beige). Hopefully they’ll make a few more darker shades, I think more people than not will really enjoy this one. I prefer it over the liquid formula myself.
For more information on this product, please see the Official Press Release.
MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30 retails for $30.00 and is available at MAC stores and online at maccosmetics.com.

Hi Brooke, thanks for the review and swatch! I’m very interested in the product, but I don’t know if it will be dark enough for me. For my reference, I hope you don’t mind me asking for your MAC shades. Many thanks! 🙂
