I seem to be on a pattern with Makeup Wars and choosing a Chanel product as my submission. For the last battle, which was my favorite mascara, I chose the new Chanel Le Volume. It was quite obvious why. You didn’t even need to read the post, just look at the photos!
This time, since it is the holiday season, we are concentrating on metallics. My choice is the new Chanel 817 Apparence Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36.00), which came out this year with their holiday collection.
What the Neiman Marcus website has to say about the Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow:
This intensely shimmering long-wear eye shadow offers true versatility.
An innovative gel texture that is both soft and cushiony allows it to be worn as eye shadow or eyeliner.
Includes a specially designed shadow/liner brush, developed specifically for this unique formula.
(L-R: swatched once, swatched heavily, swiped once with the included brush)
Apparence is a sheer gold that is beautiful to use alone as an all over wash to the eye, layered for a golden pop or as a base to your favorite holiday shadows.
The Illusion d’Ombre works best for me when I use my finger to apply, and with sheer shades like Apparence I tend to layer for more pigment. A lot of holiday palettes will work well with Apparence, but especially Chanel Harmonie du Soir Quadra Eye Shadow, from the same collection.
Last August I reviewed Epatant & Mirifique and went into more detail about the formula there. In a nut shell, it’s cushiony, it’s a gel and it wears like iron.
Purchase the Chanel Apparence Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow online at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Chanel.com or at your local Chanel counter. Apparence is limited edition.

Brooke I love this formula from Chanel. I came close to doing some of my Chanel or Armani ones since they are such great shadows for the holidays. This color is just beautiful.

Thanks! They are so spongy I want to poke at them all day lol
How gorgeous! Have you ever used it wet? It looks like it would be more intense if you really wanted to make those eyes pop.

I haven’t tried it wet, since it’s a gel and already feels a little wet, but that would be a great thing to try!
It’s hard to beat CHANEL for a gorgeous gold shadow! I don’t have this one, but I do have the holiday quad and almost picked that one for my fave!

I wanted to incorporate an eye look with this and the quad and ran out of time =( lol
What a pretty beige-gold! Makes me think of UD Maui Wowie
It is very similar! The UD has a lot more of the beige involved, but they would coordinate perfectly!
I have this and it is GORGEOUS! I have been wearing it a lot this fall.

How do you wear it?
