The NARS Andy Warhol Collection is likely one of the most anticipated collections of the year. On a personal note, this collection has been long awaited for by me not only because of how AMAZING everything looks, but because of the fact that Andy Warhol is a native of Pittsburgh and has an entire museum showcasing his work located in the city. I’m a hometown girl!
Some of my favorite items from the entire launch are the Eyeshadow Palettes. One set (of two) features the 1967 Self Portrait. For this post I have one of the three palettes in Self Portrait 2.
Self Portrait 2 is described as Black, white, and silver. The black shade applies on the sheer side and gives a bit of fall-out. The silver is also rather light on the lid, but blends beautifully. The white is the most pigmented of the three, but spreads out for a gorgeous highlight.
I love this trio for a subtle and smokey grey eye. Normally I’m not a fan of silvers and grey on brown eyes, but with this combo it seems to work.
The compact is your usual NARS rubber casing with a mirror. The exterior is a little different to commemorate the limited edition item and the interior features a mirror and a quote from Andy Warhol stating “Art is what you can get away with”.
Unfortunately, the face is an over-spray. As you can see in the pic below, one swipe takes away the face. You can work around it, and still keep yours in good shape, but I thought it worth mentioning because if I’d have known I wouldn’t have messed it up lol
For this EOTD, I started off using Make Up For Ever Eye Prime as a base. I used the silver shade all over the lid, the white shade at the inner corners and to highlight, and the black in the crease and outer V. I also added a bit of the silver under the lower lash line. The liner is the NARS 47th Street Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner and the mascara is Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill.
Factoid! 1967 Self-Portrait
The picture is one of a series of 11 large-scale paintings produced by Warhol in 1967. Five of the paintings are on permanent exhibition at The Tate Gallery in London, The Staatsgalerie Moderne Kunst in Munich, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art with two at the Detroit Institute for Arts.
‘1967 self-portrait’ features Warhol in an iconic pose, with his hand to his mouth. Warhol first used this image in 1966 when he painted life sized images. In 1967 he produced the series of 11 larger portraits. (Source).
