Just when you think you can’t fall in love with any more palettes from Urban Decay they toss out a gem. The Fall 2012 Smoked Eyeshadow Palette features shades that are neutral, smoky, jewel toned… it’s a case of endless possibilities right at your finger tips.
This case zippers around and houses 10 shadows, a full size Perversion 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, a mini Urban Decay Primer Potion, and has a mirror inside for touch-ups or application. The perfect size for travel, yet still sleek enough to stow in your purse or right on top of your vanity.
What the Sephora website has to say about the Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette:
What it is:
A palette of 10 eye shadows, plus a full-size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil and a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion, for creating a range of smoky eye looks. What it does:
An Urban Decay take on the always-popular smoky eye, this 10-shadow palette includes traditional black and gray, as well as modern-colored hues for smoky eyes. Each velvety shade features Urban Decay’s new shadow formula and proprietary Pigment Infusion System™, allowing infinite depth to your eye looks, whether you commit to all-out nighttime smoky or just apply a hint of sultry smudgy color for daytime.
(L-R: Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout)
(L-R: Perversion 24/7 Liner, Barlust, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, Asphalt)
Kinky is a matte shade that when I look at it the color makes me think of french vanilla ice cream. I’ve been using this mostly as a highlight shade.
Freestyle is a peachy nude matte… nice to use as a lid shade or to blend out the crease.
Mushroom is a shimmery grey taupe. Taupe FTW!
Backdoor is a chocolate brown matte with a very slight hint of grey.
Blackout is a deep black matte. Very nice to work with if you pat it on and don’t try to spread it around. Be generous when adding this color to your eye.
Barlust is a milk chocolate metallic. Aside from having the best name EVER for an eye shadow, this shade is and has excellent pigment.
Rockstar is a dark plum metallic. Awesome pigment. You may recognize the name from one of your favorite liner shades 😉
Evidence is a flashy metallic blue. It didn’t swatch well for me, but on the eye it’s pigmented and phenomenal. It’s going to be a go-to for me this Fall, for sure.
Loaded is a deep blue-green metallic. It’s been one of my favorite shades since it came out in one of the BOS… I forget which one. Anyway, I’ve done a ton of looks with it. If you want to be lame and not buy this palette, at least go out and buy Loaded as a single.
Asphalt is a graphite grey metallic. Awesome pigment… grey is apparently a go-to color for Fall, so you should get a ton of use out of this one too.
I did two EOTD looks so far with this palette, one on the neutral side, one on the more glam side. There are so many looks to be done, your head is going to spin.
The first look is neutral but with a kick of color. I began by applying Freestyle all over the lid up to the brow. Next I added Barlust to the outer V and Rockstar to the crease, blending up. I finished off by putting a bit of Kinky at the inner corners of the eye and to highlight under the brow area. The liner is Stray Dog 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, and the mascara is Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill.
The second look is my FAVE. I was a little apprehensive about it, but the photographs came out so well that I’m definitely going to be giving this look a go next time I get to go out and be presentable lol. Anyway, I started off with Mushroom at the inner corner of the lid and also underneath the inner corner of the eye. Evidence is used over the rest of the lid up through and past the crease. I used Blackout to deepen the crease. The liner is Perversion 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil and I smudged it on the top and bottom using more of Evidence. The mascara is Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill.
Not a fan of what I did? That’s okay, because Urban Decay also included a pretty thick booklet of different looks you can do with your eyes! Here is a sample of one of the pages:
As you can see, there is a pic to reference and the instructions are very in depth. You pretty much can’t eff up with this palette. If you do, get yourself tested.
The Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette retails for $49.00 and is available at Sephora, Macy’s, Ulta, and at urbandecay.com.

I just purchased this palette and so far I love it. I can’t wait to try more looks with it. I’m really excited to dig into Loaded!
Brooke says
Loaded is seriously the best shadow ever… and this is coming from a girl that normally lives off of Taupe shadows lol

The second look is gorgeous! This palette has some fantastic shades for fall. One of the biggest drawbacks to me is the zipper. Does it get in your way? Is it heavy duty enough to not be concerned that it is going to break with repeated use?
Brooke says
It’s a pretty strong zipper. I don’t see it getting broken unless they have a quality control issue. Good point to bring up, though! I’ll have to make sure to be careful just in case lol

I want this but I never touch my UD shadows. I need to break into those first! Beautiful swatches.

it’s so hard when the shades get repetitive. I think I have Loaded as a single and then in another palette as well besides having it in Smoked. I justify it as… well.. I love it LMAO but I know I’m not going to hit pan on all three

Love this! I placed an order online immediately after reading your post 🙂
