Make Up For Ever has an incredible line of products in their Aqua range…. from liners, to creams… they’ve got the formula down. Their latest addition to this line is Aqua Shadow. Shadow pencils basically touted to be the end all be all. I’ve seen lots of fails from other brands who have tried a shadow pencil. More fails than I’d like to ever think about because I wore them in public.
Stop holding your breath, people. Make Up For Ever has you covered.
12 shades are currently available in the Aqua Shadow line – 5 matte shades, and 7 pearly finish shades. The matte finish are 0E Black, 2E Brown, 4E Taupe Grey, 6E Navy Blue, and 8E Green. These are super creamy and vibrantly pigmented. The Pearly finish are 20E Taupe, 22E Copper, 24E Pink, 26E Peach, 28E Beige, 30E Pink Beige, and 32E White. These are really metallic/high frost and are exquisite.
Below I have 7 of the 12 shades to share with you.
What the Sephora website has to say about Aqua Shadow:
What it is:
A smudge-proof, long-lasting eye shadow pencil that enhances and intensifies the eyes. What it does:
Aqua Shadow’s intensely pigmented, waterproof formula provides immediate, rich color that will not smudge, crease, or fade. Created with silica powder, its ultra creamy texture glides effortlessly on the eyelid and blends easily for an even result. Incredibly simple to use, Aqua Shadow quickly creates a multitude of dynamic and colorful looks. What else you need to know:
Available in a wide range of 12 colors with matte and pearly finishes.
(L-R: 0E Black, 4E Taupe Grey, 6E Navy Blue, 8E Green, 20E Taupe, 22E Copper, 30E Pink Beige)
I can’t start this part of the post off any other way than by saying that I’m floored. The Aqua Shadows are AMAZING. Pigmented, blendable, ridiculously easy to apply and use… basically everything you want in a shadow that comes in thick pencil form. The feel of them is just incredible.
I applied the shadows on a bare lid and they lasted ALL DAY. I always get so nervous about that, because everything that says you don’t need a primer underneath… well it’s usually wrong. I am an oily lidded chick, and always need a secondary primer. With these I do not. (Side note, I did make it a point to use my finger and make sure there wasn’t excess oil on my lips before applying).
Colors wise, the above swatch photo has the names underneath. The only one that is a bit off to me is 8E Green, as it’s not a true green, but rather leans more teal.
How to use: Apply Aqua Shadow directly to upper or lower lid and blend with fingertips or brush. Allow product to set for 5 seconds before blinking.
A tip from me: Do one eye at a time. You want to blend and get one eye done before you start to mess with your other eye. You don’t want the shadow to set before you’ve had a chance to work with it. Also, don’t cake it on. The product is intense so you don’t need a heavy application. I put one layer of color on and the lid was opaque and covered, ready for blending.
Do not be afraid of this product! It is seriously EASY to use! I need products to be simple. I have kids and don’t want to have to jump through hoops to get something to wear or apply correctly. There is very little time to get pretty in the morning, know what I mean? 😉
For the EOTD below I started off applying 20E Taupe all over the lid and up through the crease. Next I took 8E Green and put it in the outer V, crease, and above the crease. Using a firm shadow brush I faded the outer crease color in toward the middle of the lid and then blended the crease up. I then picked up 20E Taupe again, drew a line of it over the top part of the green and using my finger blended it up to the brow. I lined the bottom with more of 8E Green and put a bit of 20E Taupe below that. The top liner is 22E Copper. The mascara used is Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill.
Have you checked these out yet? I can’t WAIT to try out some more looks. I think I’m going to need to run to my FINALLY legitimately local Sephora and grab up 2E and get that Brown in my life! Also, 32E White… because I’ve been WAITING for an awesome white shadow pencil and I bet this will be it!
Make Up Forever Aqua Shadows retail for $20.00 each and are available exclusively at Sephora and Make Up Forever Boutiques.
