Right now I have a bit of (in the words of Rob Dyrdek) ridiculousness to share with you. It’s not a bad sort of ridiculousness, but an “I got out of hand at the makeup store” type of ridiculousness.
Today, at the mall (Sephora AND Ulta) the new Urban Decay Build Your Own Palettes and new Eyeshadows were present. Oh.My.GoodGravyCharlieBown. I’ve heard the pros and cons on this product, so was on the fence about if I wanted one now, or if I wanted to wait until the whole palette deal was streamlined with Urban Decay. Well, I saw them in person and bought two. What does that tell you? (other than the fact that I have issues)….
Let’s start off focusing on the palette. The palette itself is rather heavy, colorful, and is totally customizable. It retails for $18.00 and comes with an eye shadow (Walk of Shame, which is exclusive to this palette) and a travel size Good Karma brush.
There have been complaints of the palette being too thick and bulky, but personally, I really like it! It suits Urban Decay’s style and looks fabulous. In a perfect world, I’d love to see them make a palette that is able to hold more shades – though at that point they probably would want to make the shadows a little closer together for storage purposes.
A huge downside… freaking Walk of Shame is in every.single.palette. It’s nice, you’ll probably use the snot of it… but if you want more then one palette (like myself..oy) you’ll end up with multiples. If you only want it in one palette, you can always pop out the extra Walk of Shame and put it into a pot to keep elsewhere (which is likely what I’ll end up doing). I would eventually love to have a third palette, but will hold off from purchasing because I don’t want a third Walk of Shame.
What I’m sure Urban Decay will likely do, in the long run, is sell palettes sans Walk of Shame and discount it some. However, for the palette, shadow and travel brush $18.00 is a steal! (Considering the shadows alone are $18.00… but more on that later).
How does one pop in the shadows, you ask? It’s a lot easier than I imagined. I thought you’d have to REALLY apply pressure to pop those suckers out of the pot, but… nope. Just press the bottom a bit and it comes right out, then snaps right in to the palette!
Step One: Buy Your Shadow (…well, that was pretty obvious…)
Step Two: Go ahead and remove it from the box (you know you want to)
Step Three: Open that shadow and flip it over (directions are fun)
Step Four: Remove shadow from the pot
Step Five: Place into the palette. Repeat process with your other shadows 😉
Voila! (side note… as I was saying Step One, Step Two…etc in my head.. I was totally singing the New Kids on the Block (or NKOTB to you youngins) song Step by Step lol)
Good and bad news… the shadows pop into the palette easily and stay in. BUT. It’s hard and kind of painful to get them out, especially if you’re removing more than one… then your fingers really start to hurt.
As for the shadows… it’s Urban Decay – so you know they’re amazing. They even refined the formula and made it MORE amazing.

The amazing technology works for every shade and finish. Every Urban Decay shade is silky, blendable, and stays put.

Which brings me to, everyone’s favorite part – swatches!
In the first palette, shown above and again below because I love to be repetitive, the six shadows are – top row: Walk of Shame, Blunt, Secret Service; bottom row: Maui Wowie, Mildew, and Cobra.
(L-R: Walk of Shame, Blunt, Secret Service, Maui Wowie, Mildew, Cobra)
For the second palette I chose – top row: Walk of Shame, Bordello, Last Call; bottom row: Freelove, Stray Dog, and Loaded.

I hope you enjoyed my beauty insanity. I will be doing a few EOTD looks with this, so I’ll get that together and pop it all into one post. This should happen by next week, so stay tuned!!
I just got the palette the other day. I love it, but I seriously doubt I’ll be getting more than one. I agree they should offer a choice of what shadow comes with the base unit. That would tempt me to pick up a second one.
Oh love the look of these palettes, their eyeshadows are gorgeous and cruelty free so really like the idea so being able to pick and choose which shadows I want! Fab pics!
thank you!
I like the idea of making my own palette, but that’s so expensive…
I mean, the box with 1 eye-shadow and 5 other eye-shadow’s end up being more expensive than buying the 2 Naked palettes.
I know that Urban Decay is like “fighting” against MAC depot eye-shadow, but they kinda lost when we see this type of price.
I really would love to start making my own, but it’s too much :s
By the Way, you choose really pretty colors! I specially like the ones from the last palette *O*
thank you! Hopefully they’ll listen to their fan feedback and make it more streamlined and affordable
I actually fell in love with Walk of Shame and I’ve been using the hell outta it, so when I go to purchase a 2nd palette, I won’t mind having it. I love Freelove! I’m happy to see you snagged it.
I kept going back to it! Freelove is a winner!
I actually have the palette, but none of the new eyeshadows ( I’m still a newbie when it comes to UD and I picked up an “old”one..oops lol). I agree I love your color combos..you gave me some great inspiration 🙂
That is a good way to do it, picking up just one at a time. You’ll have more time to think about what combos you’ll want to try!
I love the packaging!
OMG! I am soooooo jelly! The colors you picked are GORGE!!
thank you!!!
I’m still relatively sure I don’t want the palette, because I have shades that are similar to Walk of Shame and let’s face it, I don’t need/want another one! However, some of the shadows you picked out totally make me want to grab them (especially Loaded. I love Stray Dog but don’t know if I can make it work for my skin tone, Blunt and Maui Wowie but I’m sure I already own something PRETTY similar)! Urban Decay eyeshadows do perform really well across the board. That’s what keeps me coming back!
and they’re even better formulated now! How is that even possible?! lol It was hard to pick out shades. I didn’t want neutral since I have both Naked palettes, but I kept having to reference the shades in those two palettes so I wouldn’t get dupes lol
