So far from the MAC In Extra Dimension Eye Shadows I showed you a colorful yet subdued look with Grand Galaxy and Modern Pewter. For today’s post, I’m going to show you a darker, and more rocker type of look with Dark Dare, Blue Orbit, and Young Venus.
What the MAC website has to say about Extra Dimension Eye Shadow:
A liquid-powder Eye Shadow with prismatic reflections in ten shimmering tints. Impact ranges from sheer crystallized light to a highly polished metallic effect. Lasts up to 6 hours.
2 g / 0.07 US oz
(L-R: Dark Dare, Young Venus, Blue Orbit)
Dark Dare (charcoal black) is a straight black with slight silver shimmers. It applies as a smoky black when dry, but as a fierce black when used wet. Perfect to use for whatever smoky look you’re trying to achieve.
Blue Orbit (light iridescent purple) is SUCH a different looking shade! You can see the purple iridescence much better on the lid than in the swatch. In the swatch it just looks like a periwinkle, but it’s really an enigma of color!
Young Venus (pale white pink) is a frosty white baby pink. This is my favorite type of shade to use in the inner corner of the eye, especially for a darker look, like below.
Overall, I’m enamored with these shadows. I love the formula and the feel. The pigment is phenomenal even when used dry and they are really easy to blend and apply.
They didn’t last well on their own with me, but then most shadows don’t. If you apply them with a base underneath you should have no issues. There are absolutely going to be a few more of these in my future.
Below in the eye look I used these shades dry, but you can try using them wet for a more metallic look.
For this EOTD I started off with my usual thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion. Next, using a firm brush (MAC 239) I patted 2 layers of Blue Orbit all over the lid minus the inner corner. Using another type of firm brush (MAC 219) deposit Dark Dare into the crease and outer V. Using a blending brush (MAC 226) blend Dark Dare up. Using the other side of the 239 brush I picked Young Venus and applied it to the inner corner, bringing it up to blend out Dark Dare and to use as a highlight shade.
For a liner, I went with Eyeko Black Graffiti Eyeliner Pen all along the top and winged out. MAC Heirloom Eye Kohl was used on the bottom waterline, adding a bit of Dark Dare half way on the lower lid. The mascara used is Too Faced Better than False Lashes.
MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadows retail for $20.00 each and are available at your local MAC counter or store, as well as at maccosmetics.com.
