As an obsessed fan of all things New York City and as a former dancer, this collection by OPI is right up my alley.
This mini-collection from OPI will be added to the Softshades Collection and are inspired by the New York City Ballet.
Don’t Touch My Tutu! is an extremely sheer white. It’s translucent white. I did three coats for the swatch for the heck of it, but this is a nice shade to put on when you’re running out the door and want your nails to look super shiny and posh for work.
Pirouette My Whistle
Pirouette My Whistle is a mix of dull silver hex glitter and shiny mini silver glitters on a clear base. This lacquer is totally reminiscent of a sparkly recital tutu! I have one coat swatched over Don’t Touch My Tutu for the swatch photo above.
Barre My Soul
Barre My Soul is a very sheer (even more so than Don’t Touch My Tutu!) peachy greige. I have three coats on in the swatch photo, obviously you’ll only need one.
You Callin’ Me A Lyre?
You Callin’ Me A Lyre? is a sheer baby pink. This shade makes me think “ballet”. The swatch above it 3 coats, you’ll only need one.
Care to Danse?
Care to Danse? is a sheer, milky lilac. The swatch above is three coats, you’ll only need one.
My Pointe Exactly
My Pointe Exactly is a sheer dusky grey-blue cream. The swatch above it three coats, you’ll only need one.
Overall, yes all of these shades are sheer and look rather similar, but I love them because (other than my obsession with NYC) they are work safe, and shiny enough to be used without a top coat (though you will want one over Pirouette My Whistle because of the glitter). I did three coats on all of them to try and show a tint of color, but you really only need the one.
My fave is You Callin’ Me A Lyre? – I know it seems weird to pick a fave when they all look SO very similar, but this one just seemed to suit my tone the best. Shades such as the ones from this collection are great when you want your nails to look manicured, but don’t have the time to put in making them look fresh.
All SoftShades nail lacquers contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and each includes OPI’sexclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.
New York City Ballet by OPI will be available April 2012, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

Your swatches are horrible, Scrangie’s actually does justice to these colors.

They all look so pretty in the bottle. It’s a shame they’re all too much alike on the nail, and still the hoarder in me must have them all.I especially love Pirouette My Whistle.

I’d never spent so much money on sheer polishes. OPI retails for 14 euro, 18 dollar (!!) here in the Netherlands. Would you pay that for just a shiny coat of sheerness?
Brooke says
nope lol they are only $8.50 here though, so I’d definitely at least get the one. $18 is a lot harder to stomach!
