MAC always finds the most intriguing people to collaborate with. Sometimes I personally have never heard of them, but the fun products that are featured in these collections always inspire me to do my research.
If you search the words “Vera” and “Artist” you’re going to get a TON of hits, most of them not who you’re looking for. The artist that is known as Vera, is actually Vera Neumann. A description from the book Vera: The Art and Life of an Icon (which I thought said it best) “Legendary designer and artist Vera Neumann (1907–1993) believed in art’s ability to inspire and enrich lives. An innovator and one of the most successful female entrepreneurs of her time, Vera built her company on a radical philosophy: fine art should be accessible to everyone, not just a select few. Known for her iconic images of cheerful flowers, trendy geometrics, and vibrant ladybugs, she believed people should surround themselves with beauty.”
In the collaboration with MAC we see a lot of what Vera was known for. In the Vera Collection three Crushed Metallic Pigment sets are available – Aloha, Strawberry Patch, and today’s post of Butterfly Party.
What the MAC website has to say about Butterfly Party Crushed Metallic Pigment:
Textile designer Vera Neumann’s brilliant colour palette is translated into a limited edition set of four stackable jars of Crushed Metallic Pigment. Highlights eyes or skin with a striking colour wave of blue reflective metallic sparkle.

(L-R: Rain Drop, Moss Garden, Desert Cloud, Butterfly Party)
Butterfly Party has four shades of Crushed Metallic Pigment, including – Moss Garden (metallic silver green, frost); Rain Drop (metallic teal, frost); Desert Cloud (deep blue purple, frost); and Butterfly Party (bright lilac, frost).
Moss Garden
Moss Garden is a frosty seafoam green shade. Very gritty glittery. I experienced a lot of glitter fall out with this shade.
Rain Drop
Rain Drop is a frosty and gorgeous teal. The color is so divine, my favorite out of the four shades!
Butterfly Party
Butterfly Party is a smooth and deep lilac, almost out of place in this set of four but is actually the shade that brings them all together with a POP.
Desert Cloud
Desert Cloud is an indigo shade, that looks like it would be rather gritty in the pot, but actually gives off a much nicer finish than you’d imagine.
Overall this is a wonderfully bright and whimsical quartet of shades. All had great pigment and were smooth to apply except Moss Garden, but I think that was just because it was gritty. Keep in mind that the metallic pigments are pretty frosty. So if you don’t like that style of shadow, then this set won’t be for you.
Moss Garden was also the only shade that I experienced fall out with. If you use good, firm brushes and apply carefully, the fall out should be minimal for you as well. Obviously, if you use these pigments wet, you’ll get a stronger color payoff and less shimmer dust on your cheeks.
For the Butterfly Party EOTD I started out with a thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion and with a MAC 239 applied Moss Garden at the inner third of the eye. Next I took the MAC 239 and patted Butterfly Garden on the rest of the lid. Using a MAC 219 I applied Rain Drops to the crease and then blended it up with a MAC 226. I took the same 219 I used before and placed Desert Cloud in the outer third of the eye. For the final touch, I took a MAC 272 and applied Rain Drops under the lower lash area. I lined the bottom waterline with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Covet. (You can also use MAC Undercurrent Pearlglide Intense Liner from the same collection. The shades are similar but my eyes bug out when I use Pearlglide liners so I have to use another option and Covet is the closest I’ve ever found). I topped off the look with a thick coating of MAC Plushlash Mascara.
MAC Butterfly Party Crushed Metallic Pigment retails for $34.00 and is available at maccosmetics.com as well as at MAC counters (try Nordstrom) and stores.
