Nicole by OPI New Lacquers for 2012 Swatches and Review – Vio-let’s Talk About Red, Shoot for the Maroon, A Lit-Teal Bit of Love, A Million Sparkles

March 9, 2012

Nicole by OPI has launched a little mini collection of four polishes that are new for Spring 2012 – Vio-let’s Talk About Red, Shoot for the Maroon, A Lit-Teal Bit of Love, and A Million Sparkles (shown L-R in the photo below).  None of which particularly scream “Spring” at me, so it’s a nice break from all of the neon and pastel we’ve been seeing!

Vio-let’s Talk About Red

Vio-let’s Talk About Red is a fuchsia base with a flash of violet and shimmer.  I’m not real excited about this one.  It’s pretty, but it was a shade we saw a lot of last year.  Even so, the formula was nice and was opaque in two coats.

Shoot for the Maroon

(indoors, with flash)

(outdoors, no flash, no sun)

Shoot for the Maroon is freaking stunning.  A maroon base with a maroon and orange slight duochrome effect shimmer.  I die.  This needed two coats for full opacity.

A Lit-Teal Bit of Love

A Lit-Teal Bit of Love is an electric blue foil.  No teal involved, but I think a teal foil would have been pretty awesome.  Never-the-less, it’s still a gorgeous and bold shade.  I needed three coats for it to become opaque.

Doesn’t it remind you of OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It!  Let’s see how they compare…

The OPI (on the ring and pointer fingers) is darker, much more of a true royal blue.  They do have the same finish, though.  I do love A Lit-Teal Bit of Love (on the pinkie and middle fingers), but OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It! is just so much more breathtaking.

A Million Sparkles

A Million Sparkles really is aptly named with its silver, gold, blue and pink… hex and bar and round glitters.  It truly looks like a million things are sparkling, especially when you use 3 or 4 coats.  That many coats covers well, but it will take forever to dry and won’t stay on very long.  In the above photo, I have one coat on my pinkie finger, two coats on my ring finger, three coats on my middle finger, and four coats on my pointer finger.  This glitter makes a great topper for a coordinating shade (see below).

Here is another shot of A Lit-Teal Bit of Love fancied up with one coat of A Million Sparkles on the ring finger (outdoors, no flash).

Overall,  the additions to the line are fun, but more of a Fall/Winter group than a Spring.  Shoot for the Maroon is my hands down favorite and is a must have.

Shoot for the Maroon reminds me of OPI Teasy Does It from the opi burlesque collection. Actually I feel like all of these may be super close to OPI’s pervious releases. For some reason in Canada NOPI cost the same, if not more expensive than OPI, I will likely pass on these.
