The goal is to reorganize the nail polish. I had it in the bottom two drawers of a huge jewelry vanity that I ripped apart to house makeup and nail… but I’m growing out of it.
Observe:
The nail polish was taking up the two bottom biggest drawers (PLUS MORE), so it needed to move. I saw this tutorial awhile ago, and decided it was time to make it happen.
Time to take this:
This product retails at Michael’s for $34.99, BUT you can use the 40% off coupon they put in the paper every Sunday and it’ll only cost you $20.99 plus tax. The paper is scrapbooking paper, also from Michael’s, on clearance for $0.59 a sheet. You will only need two sheets, but I screwed up on cutting so I was happy I picked up a few extra. The scissors, tape runner, and cutting board are from Creative Memories (which I already owned because I’m a scrapbooker!) but you can use any scissors. I just used the cutting board because I can’t cut a straight line to save my life. The tape runner was nice because it allows the paper to stay secure on the front, but doesn’t show bumps and lumps like glue might cause. You can also try double sided scrapbook tape which is located at places like Wal-Mart and is in the office supplies area.
When I purchased this, I fully intended on building and creating this little thing all by myself. DH can’t wait or sit on his hands, (which is probably a good thing) so he took over the construction, and I took over the decorating.
DH building (why do men need to wear skull caps for everything? It obviously helps them think):
It took him 30 minutes to put this all together, which is probably about an eighth of the time it would have taken me. Thank heavens for DH and skull caps.
Anyway, after the “decor” happened we ended up with this (currently residing under my vanity, but it may need to be moved):
and there is a lot more room for polishes and keeping them organized (these are most of my polishes, some are out on loan lol):
This cabinet is stackable and sturdy. I imagine some day I’ll run out of space again, in which case I can just add another. In any event, it’ll be nice to spread my makeup out.
Which brings me to a project I’ve been working on. When I got the jewelry vanity I did a “before” video of how I kept my collection. After I do this final reorganization, I’ll film the second part to the video and upload both to YouTube so I can share my collection thus far.
I hope you enjoyed my little do-it-yourself post! What is your favorite way to store nail polishes and makeup? Share your ideas!

I have these display racks in my painting room that are perfect for polish, but if I move them up to the bedroom and screw them into the wall….well, i’ll be looking for some place else to live. So this is a great alternative. I’m going to get one! or two….

I wish I could paint! I don’t have an artistic bone in my body lol

You’re going to love it, I have two! I like your idea to decorate the front too. I’ve been meaning to add some rubberized stuff to the bottom so the polish in the not so full drawers don’t slide around.

I have a Helmer from Ikea and I think scrapbook paper would look great on the front. Thanks for the idea!

I have this for my nail polish also and I have found that if the bottom drawer is heavy it will make a horrible”nails on a chalkboard” type sound. So I always put the lightest drawer on the bottom.

thank you for the tip!

I love organizing! I did a makeup organization post a while back on my blog – if you click on my name it will go straight to the post. My nail polish is a total mess though, just jumbled in a drawer. What I really want to do is get a display rack from ebay, but I don’t have a good place to put it.

I totally would have gotten a display rack if I had my own “room” for things like my blogging and scrapbooking hobbies. I’m positive DH would put his foot down lol He didn’t even want me having plastic cases, which was how the wood jewelry thing came in to play haha Though, he does have good ideas, that guy 😉

it says the page doesn’t exist =(
