OPI Nicki Minaj Collection Nail Polish Swatches and Review

January 29, 2012

With products launching from such brands as OPI and MAC, it seems like 2012 is going to be the year of Nicki Minaj.  The OPI Nicki Minaj Collection features six polishes just as freak-tastic as Nicki herself, including the most beautiful shatter polish that we’ve seen YET and a holo bar glitter that will have you feeling faint.

Pink Friday

Pink Friday is a cotton candy pink cream.  This one took 3 coats for total and even coverage.  It’s the pink I’ve been looking for for YEARS.  Each one I’ve tried has always been a tad off from what my head wanted.  Pink Friday is perfect, and looks awesome with Save Me on top.

Did It On ‘Em

Did It On ‘Em is a neon yellowed lime polish.  It was a bit thin, but went on smoothly for me and was opaque in three coats.  I didn’t expect to like this one, but once it was on my fingers, especially with a coat of Save Me on top, I couldn’t stop staring!

Fly

Fly (omg the name makes me giggle, I’m such a weirdo) is a teal cream and it went on a little thicker than Did It On ‘Em but was just as smooth.  I used 2 coats for the photo.

Metallic 4 Life

Metallic 4 Life is a mish mash of random size hex glitters (and maybe some round and square) over a black base.  I really liked how this one went on, I was a bit worried it would be too sheer, but after you get past the second coat you’ll be able to rest easy.  I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Save Me

Save Me is a holo bar glitter on a silver glitter base.  I would now like to publicly go on the record and announce my adoration and awe of this polish.  I freakin’ love bar glitter.  Seriously, you guys…. even if you DON’T like bar glitter, you’ll like this one.  It’s so beautiful and not at ALL temperamental, like you’d expect.  The swatches are done with 4 coats on the pointer finger, 3 coats on the middle finger, 2 coats on the ring finger and 1 coat on the pinkie finger.

Super Bass Shatter

Super Bass Shatter is a purple shatter with red shimmers.  This is the most gorgeous of all shatters, hands down.  Shown above swatched over Save Me, Super Bass works like any other shatter.  I randomly swatched it thinner and thicker, but I think I like this one thicker because it shows off the red shimmer more.  You will need a top coat over this.

Overall, I am insane for this collection.  I love it so much more than I originally thought from when I saw the release.  MUST-haves are Save Me, Super Bass Shatter… All of the rest are nice to haves.  Pink Friday is a must for me, personally, since it’s the shade I’ve been hunting.  Basically, if you can only get two, get the must haves, if you can afford to splurge, get em all.  There is also a mini-set available, so you could always save a bit and buy that, then get the full sizes of the other two.

I love all the colors, but I’m not sure I can get behind the bar glitter. It’s pretty, but also looks like some fuzz got stuck to the nail, haha. Thanks for the swatches! I might have to go pick up the mini set!

I’ve seen this collection here and was drooling all over Super Bass shatter. Your swatches didn’t convince me otherwise!
