Maybelline TOUGH AS TAUPE and POMEGRANATE PUNK Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow Swatches, Review, and Comparisons

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow is the newest addition to the creamy eye shadow pots.  We’ve seen similar launches from high end brands such as Armani, Chanel, MAC, and from the drugstore brand L’Oreal… but how are they different?

I purchased 2 of the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows in Tough as Taupe 35 and Pomegranate Punk 30 for some swatching and comparison.

Tough as Taupe is a very grey based taupe.  The shade reminds me of wet cement.  It swatched more grey, but as it dried the taupe came through.

Pomegranate Punk is a purpled merlot pearl with golden shimmer.

Overall, these were nice, and I got exceptional wear from them.  Though I didn’t wear 24 hours (because you SHOULD be washing your face before bed!) I did get a full day without major creasing, but some minor fading.  You can offset the fading by applying a shadow on top, and the product will hold better.

The differences between Maybelline Color Tattoo and L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadows?  The L’Oreal is more a cream to powder (like the Armani).  The Chanel Illusion D’Ombre has more of a gel quality to it.   The Maybelline reminds me more of a MAC Paint Pot.  For reference, I swatched the 2 Maybelline below next to two MAC Paint Pots.

Obviously, Groundwork (aw look how well loved it is lol) and Tough as Taupe look nothing alike.  Pomegranate Punk and Idyllic were much closer, though Pomegranate Punk had more of a gold shimmer and purple tone, where Idyllic was more metallic burgundy.
