China Glaze EYE CANDY Nail Polish Collection Swatches and Review

November 15, 2011

A nail polish collection inspired by Marilyn Monroe?  Yep, I’ll take all six, please.

The China Glaze Eye Candy Collection recently released with 6 glitter shades (Love Marilyn, Blonde Bombshell, Material Girl, Some Like It Haute, Marry A Millionaire, and Lorelei’s Tiara), all based off of icon Marilyn Monroe.  I stalked Sally Beauty and Ulta until this collection released locally (on my birthday!) and was able to secure all 6 for swatching and review at Ulta.  Sally’s only had a pic of 4 of these polishes in their Winter book, so the manager was unsure if they’d get the whole collection, but Ulta is and it’s likely available at yours now, so if you like what you see here, call to check on availability!

Love Marilyn

Love Marilyn is a stunning mix of small red and silver hex glitter over a clear base.  The swatch above is three coats and while it covered okay, it was still showing nail.  This would look phenomenal over a shimmery holiday red or a foily silver.  Very blingy.

Blonde Bombshell

Blonde Bombshell is a mix of small and REALLY small glitters with a spattering of gold bar glitters over a clear base.  The swatch above is 3 coats and would really stand out more if it was over top of another shade.  This would look fun over a silver for the holidays.  It’s pretty, but was my least favorite out of the collection.

Material Girl

Material Girl is a mix of mini size, small, and medium sized pink glitters on a clear base.   The swatch photo above is 3 coats and is too sheer for my liking.  I would love to put this over a silver or gold polish.  Wow I’m really sticking to the holiday shades for layering haha This polish reminded me of a much more toned down version of OPI Teenage Dream, but OPI Teenage Dream wowed me a lot more.

Some Like It Haute

Some Like It Haute is a mixture of gunmetal and silver glitter and large holo hex glitter.  Even though this polish has a clear base, it covered the nail very well in 3 coats.  I’m loving the name and this polish is my second fave out of the six shades.  It reminds me of Orly Rock Solid and Orly Androgynie.  I have Rock Solid but am still trying to hunt down an Androgynie for a comparison post.

Marry A Millionaire

Marry A Millionaire just might be one of my favorite polishes of all time.  It’s got it all – purple glitter and holo bar glitter… I know some people don’t like the bar glitter, but I think it’s amazingggg.  I will be layering this over purple and silver polishes for sure, and it even looks good alone (3 coats for the photo)!  This is my top pick from this collection.

Lorelei’s Tiara

Lorelei’s Tiara has a clear base with mostly silver and some larger blue glitters.  It’s so interesting on the nail.  I never expected to like this polish as much as I do!  This would look so hot layered over a deep, frosty blue.  The swatch is three coats.

Overall, I LOVE this collection.  I thought that Material Girl and Blonde Bombshell could have “brought it” more, and I wasn’t really impressed with them.  You MUST pick up Marry A Millionaire and Some Like It Haute.

China Glaze Eye Candy Nail Polishes retail for $8.00 each, but when I went to Ulta  they were buy 2 get 1 free, so if you want that deal, I suggest you act fast.  I have no idea how long it’s going on, but I imagine only for this week.

For more information on this collection, please check out the official press release.
