Just because August is winding down and Labor Day is right around the corner doesn’t mean that summer beauty has to stop. Wearing a Sultry Summer Look and shying away from bold, neon additions has not closed down for the year (even though the pools here on the East Coast are about to)! For this post I’m going to show you how to get a really easy, sultry summer eye look with a hit of blue using the most travel friendly tools (or one tool with several attachments) on Earth.

First let’s talk about the products I’ll be using for this look, so you don’t get lost as you read through the steps. To purchase these products I went to my local Walgreens and walked around picking up items I wanted to try in shades that stood out. Makeup wise I picked up the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Eye Shadow in Treasured Bronze and the L’Oreal Paris Silkissime Eyeliner in Bleu Cobalt. For a mascara I had to try out the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Rockin’ Curves. Look at that brush!!!

As I was there wandering I noticed the Studio 35 Beauty makeup brushes and saw an adorable little set with interchangeable brush heads. This is a beauty mavens answer to the tool-mans perfect screwdriver. They are easy to switch and the heads are magnetic so they’re not flopping around and falling off as you use them. They’re small enough to keep in your makeup bag and I need to buy at least three more sets (it was less than $4 for the entire set!).

Below are swatches of the L’Oreal products that I used for this look. They are swatched dry on bare skin. I did use a primer for the eye look.

For the eye look below prep your eyes with the eye shadow primer of your choice and follow the steps.

To get the look above, follow the steps below!

  1. Take the shading brush and apply the copper color of the L’Oreal palette to the inner third of the eye.
  2. Take the concealer brush and apply the bronze shade of the L’Oreal palette to the rest of the eye lid.
  3. Using the pointed lining brush apply the chocolate metallic shade of the L’Oreal palette to the outer V and the crease.
  4. With the flat lining brush take a bit of the shimmering ivory shade of the L’Oreal palette and put it at the inner corners of the eye as well as under the brow to highlight.
  5. Grab a fluffy brush of your choice and lightly blend out your look.
  6. Pick a bold eyeliner that is waterline friendly. For this look I used the L’Oreal Silkissime Eyeliner in Bleu Cobalt.
  7. Under the outer third of the lower lash liner use the flat lining brush again to add a bit of the copper shade from the L’Oreal palette.
  8. Since there is no top eye liner in this look pick a mascara that is volumizing. I used two coats of Rimmel ScandalEyes Rockin’ Curves.
  9. Check your work. Oh, hai eye ball!
  10. When you’re all finished fill in your brows with the product of your choice and brush them up with the spoolie brush.

How do you amp up a neutral eye look?

Rimmel Sweetie Crush Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review

If you’re awesome and follow me via the Instagram you may have seen a few pics of the Rimmel Sweetie Crush Nail Polish Collection (here & here). Now, wait no longer, it’s time for swatches!

Below I did three coats of each shade for full coverage, all have a rough & textured finish (like sugar!).

  • Candyfloss Cutie is a raspberry pink texture.
  • Sherbet Sweetheart is a light yellow texture with some golden and holo shimmers mixed in.
  • Fizzy Applelicious is a mint green texture.
  • Blueberry Whizz is a cerulean blue texture.
  • Violet Swizzle is a lavender texture.

I thought these fun, candy colored pastel polishes would make for the perfect Easter post. I hope you’re having an awesome weekend, whether you’re celebrating Easter or not. Make it a good one, eat some ham 😉

The Rimmel Sweetie Crush Nail Polishes retail for $2.25 each and I found mine at Rite-Aid. Even though that was a month ago my local Rite-Aid still has every color in stock, so you can still find these!

Make Up Your Mod Makeup Look feat. Rimmel & Sweepstakes! #beautyinspiration

I can’t believe it’s finally April! I thought March would never end! Because I have better weather and a good time on the mind I decided to try a look I’ve always been interested in that is again wildly popular – mod. When I think of a mod beauty look I immediately think of Rimmel for #BeautyInspiration. Because of their recent Retro Glam campaign I wanted to Go Big. Go Bold. Go Over the Top. I had a few of the items I needed at home, and I went to Walmart and purchased the others – including a new tube of one of my personal favorite drugstore mascaras. (In honor of this month being RIMMEL’s 180 year anniversary there will be a $1 off coupon in the Sunday newspaper for each of the the Retro Glam Mascara and Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation!)

That first pic shows quite a bit of product. But it all plays a necessary part in going Mod. Don’t worry, I’ll break it down so that it all makes sense 😉

To begin the Mod look you’ll want to start with the eyes (in case there is shadow fall-out or you mess up and need to start over you won’t have to mess up your gorgeous face that you spent all that time on!). Prep the lids with a primer of some sort. For this look I used the Rimmel Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Stick in Witness White.

Next, take your shadow brush of choice (I prefer a firm paddle type shadow brush for this) and apply the vintage lilac shade from the Rimmel Smokey Purple Glam’eyes Quad Eye Shadow (on the left of the compact in the pic above) all over the lid. Then, taking the Rimmel Smokey Noir Glam’eyes Quad Eye Shadow use the applicator provided and apply the matte black shade deeply above the crease. Use a blending brush with more of the matte black shadow to blend out the edges.

Now my favorite part! Use the Rimmel Scandaleyes Precision Micro Eyeliner in Black to get way into the inner corners of the upper lid of the eye. Take the line the whole way out to the end. Follow up with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner to thicken the outer part of the eye and create a wing at the end. Finally, go back to the Precision Micro Eyeliner and touch-up that inner-corner and also go below the lower lid and do up some Twiggy-esque lines. This is a great way to enlarge the eyes and add to the lower lashes without using falsies.

Next I used the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Taupe to line the lower inner rim of the eyes. On top of that I added Rimmel Soft Kohl in Pure White. Finish off your eye look by filling in your brows and adding a mascara with some KAPOW. I added three coats of Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara in Carbon Black to the top and bottom lashes.

For the face I reached for Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in my shade (which is True Ivory) and applied all over the face for full, matte coverage. Next I took Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in Celestial and dabbed it lightly on the cheeks, blending quickly for just a slight hint of nude color on the cheekbones.

For the lips I lined all around the edges with Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in Innocent. I topped off the lips with Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in 113.

For this look I ventured towards the extremely smoky side of “Mod”. It might be too deep for some, or just right for others. It’s simple to tone it down by using less of the black shadow and not blending it up as high.

Now for the Coty/Rimmel Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes will include $50 worth of popular RIMMEL products to achieve your favorite looks. There will be 25 winners selected!

Top 10 Must-Have Mascaras

No matter how much makeup you put on your face, mascara is one of those products that finishes off not only your eye look, but completes your entire face as well.

Below I’ve compiled my Top 10 Must-Have Mascaras. These are the products and wands that work the best for me and my particular lashes. Some of these I’ve used consistently for over three years or more (replacing the actual mascara itself, of course!). Check them out and see if any of your faves made my list!

  1. Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. $10 gets you amazing bottom lashes to match your high-voltage upper lashes that you’ll get by using the rest of the mascaras on this list 😉 Bottom Lash is awesome because the brush is tiny and gets all of those hard to reach lash areas on the top and bottom of your lids.
  2. Chanel Le Volume de Chanel. In one coat this “snowflake brush” thickens, lengthens and curls!
  3. Too Faced Better Than Sex. This one thickens and curls to make eyes pop! I love to layer it over MUFE Smoky Extravagant.
  4. Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant. If you ever needed the perfect lengthening mascara, you’ve found it right here. This looks great on it’s own, but when you put Too Faced Better Than Sex on top the effect is amazing!
  5. MAC Plushlash in PlushBlack. Separates, curls, thickens and lengthens. No matter how many mascaras I love, this one always ends up being the mascara I go back to for daily use.
  6. MAC False Lashes Extreme Black. Lengthens and curls and also looks amazing under Plushlash!
  7. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill. The brush is thick, giving lashes a lot of oomph. I love that this one never flakes or smudges all day. Very long lasting! There are several versions of this mascara, but I’ve found I like the original one the best.
  8. CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher. It just does not clump. When this came out bloggers even tried THIRTY coats! Not only will it keep your lashes clump-free, but they’ll look awesome too!
  9. Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara. I discovered this one when I was in the 2012 Allure Beauty Blogger of the Year competition. For the purposes of the competition we were sent a huge box of products to assist in the challenges. This mascara is one I still use to this day!
  10. Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam. My first Rimmel product! This came in an Influenster VoxBox and is now a staple for me. The brush is in an hourglass shape and just does amazing things to my lashes. Coating well for thickening, but doesn’t go clump crazy.

Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara Swatches & Review #retromania #Influenster #RoseVoxBox

This is a milestone! This marks the first Rimmel product I’ve ever blogged about! To be honest…. I’m shocked. I swear I blogged about this brand before… but, alas, I had to create a new category today for it.

In any event, this is a great product to cut my teeth on because it’s a love! The Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara is so good that you’ll definitely be seeing more from this brand on my blog. Soon.

What the Rimmel London website says about Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara:

Bold, wide-eyed false lash look.
Hour-glass brush shaped to the lash line to plump lashes, fanning them up and out for bold, wide-eyed volume.
Coats lashes individually for a big, false lash look in one simple stroke. No clumps!

This mascara was wonderful! It really gave a good lift and curl while also thickening and lengthening lashes. I had a minor issue with my lashes clumping together in just that one little spot but I didn’t feel it was severe or even worse than any other mascara that is stated to provide the “bold, false lashes” type of look. To it’s credit, the mascara held up well throughout the day and I didn’t feel as though I needed to reapply it.

Below is two coats of Scandaleyes.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara retails for approx. $6.99 and is available at your local drug store, grocery store and Ulta.
