5 Things To Do for “Call in Well Day”

*I felt the magic of swiss herbs in Ricola® Herb & Throat drops as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #swissherbs – All opinions remain honest and my own.

At least once in your life you’ve had to call in sick to work. You’ve likely legitimately been sick when making that call. But what about those days when you want to stay home and you’re not sick. Maybe you just need a mental health day full of silence and “vegging out”. Maybe you can’t handle the way Sheila chews her food in the morning meeting (name has been changed to protect the innocent *wink*). November 30 has been deemed “Call in Well Day”. The day where you can call in sick but stay home well.

Okay, so you’re on board with me and calling in well on the 30th. What are you supposed to do with all of this free time at home? Here’s what I’d do:

1 // Play in the tub. Not because you’re three, but because you want to relax and no one is home but you. You can actually lay in the hottest water tolerable, soak in the oils and bubbles… in peace. In the dark.. maybe with some candles… maybe read a magazine. Alone. Can you tell my kids constantly walk in on me in the bathroom?! Nowhere is your own during communal hours. Slap on some Reviva Labs Collagen-Fibre Eye Pads, mask up with Borghese Fango, exfoliate with some LUSH Ocean Salt…. basically take your well day and bask in it.

2 // Jam. Not the food. Music. Your music. Not one of your songs, then one of your SO’s… then 1,000 of your kids. Yours. Sing as loud as you want for as long as you want to anything you want.

3 // Now the food. Eat what you want and you don’t have to share. For me, I love to eat buttered noodles and peanut butter cups from the fridge. Because well day isn’t really about “eating well”. As you sink into your food coma pop in a Ricola® Dual Action Honey Lemon drop for stamina and to help keep you from actually getting sick so that your next “call in sick day” can be a “well day” also 😉 . A blend of 10 herbs called Chrüterchraft is naturally effective in soothing relief for your throat as well as other ailments that may be impending.

Ricola® is hitting the road to help America wake up their mouths with their Revitalizing drops! I love how these drops make my throat feel during allergy season and the colder months… find me that car! Check out the site and see if Ricola® will be stopping by a city near you! #wakeupyourmouth

4 // Catch up. It’s so stressful to be behind on anything. Even the DVR. Catch up on shows while you do something that you enjoy. Decorate your planner, do some adult coloring… find your happy place.

5 // Try a new nail color. Work safe bah humbug. Do a LUSH Hot Hand Mask, toss the nudes and neutrals and give yourself a mani pedi of something bold and bright… go as vampy as you want… bring on the glitter. Rhinestones. Add on your favorite hand cream and voila.

Notice how I didn’t say clean anything? Because, no. Not on your well day.

FYI I think it goes without saying to use extreme discretion when calling in well. You know your employer the best and it’s obviously not worth losing your job over… but if you can call in well… do that. We all need a little break sometimes!

Reviva Labs High-Potency Elastin Serum Review + Photos

Press Sample

Face it, good genes and good luck can only take us so far in the wrinkles department. To keep creases and sagging away as long as possible other things need to come into play, most importantly – like the kind found in Reviva Labs High-Potency Elastin Serum.

Elastin fades over time due to sun exposure, stress (aka kids – lol sorry, rough night!), booze, wind… basically everything you come into contact with will mess up your skin. Products such as the Reviva Labs High-Potency Elastin Serum work to reverse and prevent this damage, boosting skin firmness. After using this for several weeks I did notice a subtle change in the suppleness of my skin, especially in my cheeks. One pump of product will coat your face (or the backs of both of your hands). It will feel sticky at first but it absorbs quickly and leaves a soft, smooth texture behind.

I will definitely continue to use this on my face as well as on the back of my hands. The hands show aging so much faster than we realize, and when I show off a pretty mani I need to make sure the skin of my hands is looking young and on-point as well. Because I wear a lot of glitter on my nails. While glitter is always age appropriate let’s not rock the boat.

What do you use to help keep elastin levels high in your skin?

Reviva Labs High-Potency Elastin Serum retails for $27.00 and can be purchased online at revivalabs.com.

Top 10 Eye Creams for a 30-something

Affiliate Links

Color me an old lady, but yes I’ve tried enough Eye Creams to make up a top 10 of my faves. I’m still in my early 30’s, but I’m completely obsessed with keeping away the crows feet. I have em… we all do, especially if we laugh a lot… but there are things we can use to prevent the worst of the lines, wrinkles and evil.

In no particular order:

  1. StriVectin-EV Get Even Dark Circle Corrector. This is more for lightening the dark circles, but it helps with lines a bit as well.
  2. Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream. This is gentle and light but still actively keeps lines and wrinkles at bay. You can see results within a few days, which is perfect for me because I’m the instant gratification type!
  3. Reviva Labs Firming Eye Serum. The mulberry and lime help lighten dark circles while the other ingredients moisturize, fight puffiness and protect against future damage.
  4. Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for Eyes. I first used this in 2012 and it is great for moisture & restoring resiliency.
  5. Kate Somerville Line Release Under Eye Repair Cream. Used for firming and lifting the under eye area, I found it’s really great at keeping my lines hidden.
  6. Le Metier de Beaute Revive Eye Concentrate. This was the one I most recently finished and I loved how the product pumped out just enough product per eye. I felt I had great results with this when it came to reducing fine lines.
  7. Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Eye Balm. I rebuy this all the time. I first reviewed this balm back in September of 2012 and found it works great as a brightener & hydrater, smoothing out crow’s feet over time. I also like to mix it with concealers that might feel a little too dry for some double duty.
  8. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye Cream. Dark Circles and puffiness be gone! This is one of the few drugstore eye creams I’ve tried that actually hydrates well and actually shows a difference.
  9. Dior Hydra Life BB Eye Crème. This is said to hide fatigue while reducing signs of aging. I’m still playing around, but so far I’m loving the results and how well this hides and hydrates. I will have a full review on this soon!
  10. Perricone MD Cold Plasma Eye. This feels so amazing under the eyes and really hydrates while absorbing quickly. Really fantastic for reducing the wrinkles!

I’m always down for trying more! What eye cream is your favorite?

4 Brands You Need to Eradicate Acne + a GIVEAWAY!

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Happy Acne Awareness Month! Yes, that’s a real thing and it’s happening right now. For all of you skin care buffs out there, calm down, this post will not be me telling you to pop the acne. Eradicate in this sense means to pop it’s stanky, gross-ness way out of your life. In the past, I’ve struggled with HORRIBLE, HORMONAL, PAINFUL, CYSTIC acne (thanks, kids!). So embarrassing. Four brands (yes, there are affordable options listed) have helped me to clear my face and keep it clear (occasionally I still get a zit, but it’s nothing like what would happen before!).

Murad. They basically own it when it comes to their Clarifying line. The Clarifying Cleanser works well with the Clarisonic and I use the wipes in the morning to refresh my face for makeup. I use the Clearing Mask around twice a month and the spot treatments as needed. This is definitely a line that has worked well for me and isn’t hurtful to my sensitive skin.

Reviva Labs. Camphor, you guys. This was the start of my clear face. I reviewed this system back in 2011. My skin looked and felt amazing and the products are really affordable. Unfortuantely the Camphor Cleansing Milk & Camphor Toner have been discontinued (*sad face*), but Reviva recommends the Glycolic Acid Cleanser and Toner in it’s place. So if you grab those along with the Light Skin Peel, Night Cream for Oily Skin and the Glycolic Acid Oily Skin Daytime Cream and you’ll be set. I’ve seen some of the line available at Ulta, but you can also buy it at revivalabs.com and overallbeauty.com.

Kate Somerville. My skin changed when I hit 30. The stuff I used in my 20’s and teens (for around 15 years!) no longer jived with my skin. The skincare experts from Kate Somerville happened to be in Sephora the day that I went in and I’ve never looked back. I use the Anti-Bac Acne Clearing Lotion, Oil-Free Moisturizer and Exfoli-Kate religiously.

Clearasil. I had to include them in this. I’m really loving their line of Superfruit Cleansers. This is the only drugstore cleanser I’ve been able to use that didn’t break me out and also didn’t bleach the heck out of my wash cloths.

Lately I’ve also been checking out some Mario Badescu products that came highly recommended to me from Bren from omgbren.com. So far I’m loving everything I’m trying and will be doing a full review once I complete testing =)

Makeup Wars – Favorite Face Mask featuring Reviva Labs Light Skin Peel!

Press Sample

This week, the beautiful bloggers of

Makeup Wars

are showing off our favorite face masks! I definitely have a couple of favorites, but I decided to share with you one that I’ve loved for a few years and is very affordable.

If you’ve been a longgggg time reader of Blushing Noir (I’m talkin’ back in my blogspot days!), you’ve seen me review this face mask before. The Reviva Labs Light Skin Peel($20.00) is my go-to mask when I want to remove dead skin cells from my face and look radiant. The mask is not harsh at all, but will leave your skin a little flushed looking (this will fade) and the smell isn’t all that lovely, but darned if it doesn’t work like no other (obviously, I’ve been a fan since 2011).

You need very little product to coat your entire face and the pot will last you many months. Smooth it on, allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes and then wipe it off. You can use a dry towel, but I use a wet one… that’s probably bad but my OCD’s don’t allow for the dry towel option lol

For the price you absolutely can’t beat it, especially since it’s all natural and works for all skin types, no matter what your age.

Normally I pop it on in the shower and then lather up with some Reviva Labs Seaweed Soap($4.00, also shown above) but for the sake of an embarrassing photo op I did it out of the warm spray.

If you’re not too terrified of the mugshot you’ve seen here, definitely check out what the other Makeup Wars bloggers came up with! I’m dying to see their faves. I always leave these things with a mile long shopping list lol

Reviva Labs Hawaiian Seaweed Beauty Mask Review & Photos

One of my favorite ways to pamper myself (and maybe freak my kids out a little bit) is to put on a face mask. The ones I love the most are the clay ones that you smooth on your face and let dry, then you wipe it off with warm water. I’ve had bad experiences with cheap peel masks where it wouldn’t come off (basically if you bought your face mask for $1 at Wal-Mart you shouldn’t expect it to work out any differently), so I much prefer the rinse off kind!

The best clay mask by far is by Reviva Labs and is called the Hawaiian Seaweed Beauty Mask. This is an excellent deep cleansing mask which helps your skin achieve proper oil/moisture balance. It’s for all skin types, but will be especially useful for combination skins in avoiding breakouts.

Your skin will feel amazing, CLEAN, and supple after you remove this mask. Within the pot you’ll get several uses, so the price point is insanely affordable for such a great product. In all of my years of sampling clay masks I’ve never found one I’ve liked as much as this one.

For maximum benefits, you could also use the Skin Energizing Gel to “charge” the skin before applying facial masks.

Reviva Labs Hawaiian Seaweed Beauty Mask retails for $12.00 and is available on the website as well as at overallbeauty.com.

Reviva Labs SKIN ENERGIZING GEL Photos and Review

Reviva Labs has taken beauties all over the world by storm with their affordable and effective skin care products. They have something for everyone (even a newly released line for expectant mamas!) and I haven’t yet met a product from this brand I haven’t loved.

Recently, I was sent a facial mask to test out (review to come), and included in the package was a surprise! A bottle of the Skin Energizing Gel! Read on to see what this product is all about.

What the Reviva Labs website has to say about Skin Energizing Gel:

Remarkable gel stimulates skin’s metabolism, can help lessen the appearance of wrinkles, improve clarity, help firm up skin texture. And it does it F-A-S-T. In just a few days you start to see and feel results. “Use alone” nightly, or under your regular night cream.

Skin Energizing Gel really did make my moisturizer soak better. I’ve always been happy with the night creams that I use, but this past winter I kept getting dry patches to the left of my eye brows. It was a little random and weird, and I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of them. Even after the first day of using this product, the patches were noticeably diminished. After a little less than a week, they were gone.

This product was the kick in the pants that my skin needed over the cold dry months.

Reviva Labs Skin Energizing Gel retails for $10 and can be purchased at their website, as well as at OverallBeauty.com and Ulta.

Reviva Labs MAKEUP PRIMER Review & Photos

I had such a great experience with the skin care regime that Reviva Labs sent me that I immediately jumped at the chance to test out their Makeup Primer!

I’ve tried several makeup primers, mostly samples from Sephora orders, but I did check out a full size of Smashbox. I just don’t like how you can FEEL them on your face. It’s not unpleasant, but you KNOW it’s there, like you spread baby powder all over. I couldn’t get down with that, and was not a fan.

With Reviva Labs Makeup Primer you just need a PEA SIZED amount to cover your ENTIRE face. I put a small amount on my middle finger, dipped my other middle finger in that, patted all over my face and smoothed it around. My face makeup went on smoother, and looked more flawless. Most importantly, once it was on I couldn’t TELL it was on. I didn’t get the urge that my face needed washed.

From the website:

Apply over moisturizer or instead of moisturizer. Lines fill in, pores are concealed, excess oil is controlled. Skin so touchable, so silky smooth, you will find it hard to believe.

I couldn’t agree more! The Reviva Labs Makeup Primer is $19.50 for 1oz. It is going to take you forever to finish that up. I’ve been using it every day for 2 weeks now and it doesn’t even look like it’s been touched. I took 2 weeks to post this review because I tend to get reactions to products, regardless of what companies say. I’m happy to report I did not have any reaction to this makeup primer. No break outs, no rashes. YAY!

Check out the website for Reviva Labs. There is something for everyone, and the products have been truly life changing for me. Which sounds extremely dramatic, but I really believe in these products and in the company. You can purchase Reviva Labs Products from their website, as well as at OverallBeauty.com and Ulta.

Reviva Labs Skin Care Review & Photos

Towards the end of February I was approached by Reviva Labs to do a review on some of their products. My choice. I asked what they recommended for some acne issues I was having. Not too severe, but likely caused by stress or some medication that I had been on.

The recommended treatment included Camphor Cleansing Milk #153 followed by Camphor Toner #154 and once-a-week supplement cleansing with Light Skin Peel #107. During the day Glycolic Acid Oily Skin Cream #209. At night, Oily Skin Night Cream #315.

Before this system, I had never actually been on a stringent skin care program. (I know, that’s totally bad.) So, I was eager to get something started. I’ll start out with some pics and first impressions that I jotted down back in February, then give my overall review and opinion.

Camphor Cleansing Milk #153

First Impression – That it’s small but mighty. I used a generous PEA SIZED amount and was able to cover my whole face with product. When I first saw the bottles I was worried they wouldn’t last long, but you seriously don’t need much at all! The CM has a menthol smell and feels cooling and fresh on the face. I dried off my face afterwards and was pleased to see NO MAKEUP residue on my white towel! My face doesn’t feel dry like it did with previously used blemish washes.

Camphor Toner #154

First Impression – same menthol smell, I didn’t need to put much on the cotton ball. This did sting a little bit as I was patting it on my face, hopefully in time as my skin clears and adjusts to the product this won’t happen. It’s obviously a bearable feeling and goes away after a few seconds.

Oily Skin Night Cream #315

First Impression – a mousse look… when I first opened the jar the texture reminded me of opening a tub of cool whip. I got a little bit off of the cap and dabbed all over my face before massaging in. It’s not the best of smells but it IS natural and if it helps my face I’m game. My face feels extremely baby soft and smooth. This needs to be washed off in the morning.

Glycolic Acid Oily Skin Cream #209

First Impression – There is a slightly unpleasant smell. It took some time to absorb and my face still felt dry after applying.

Light Skin Peel #107

First Impression – feels like spreading Elmer’s glue all over the face, it is to be left on for 3-5 min (once a week). this week I just did it for 3 minutes because sometimes I get a reaction to products such as this. I’m happy to report no reaction. To remove you’re to rub off with hands, dry towel, or cosmetic sponge…. I used the dry towel.. while it worked it did leave residue on the face. I didn’t think I used too much, but perhaps I did this time. The residue was a turn off, but the benefits of the peel could be worth it. This did not cause redness on my face or any type of reaction whatsoever.

After using the system after day 1 I woke up to my face feeling a bit dry, but my blemishes were noticeably less irritated and smaller. After day 4 I noticed some improvement on my breakouts and nothing new had popped up! Score! Using this system daily has allowed me to control my breakouts and maintain a healthy glow. Until day 4 I did have some light itching and dryness to my face, but after day 4 I had NO issue with that, and it was totally bearable. And the final results were worth it, for sure.

My breakouts are virtually nil, and I attribute that to this system by Reviva Labs. Every other acne wash I’ve used before has bleached my towels, made my face red and irritated, or stunk like sulfur. Reviva has definitely helped me get my face back under control, and I will continue to use some of these products.

I definitely recommend the Cleansing Milk and the Camphor Toner (each only $8! That is LESS that what I would pay if I was at a drugstore!). I even grew to REALLY like the Night Cream (which you only need a VERY little amount of, dab all over and rub in). I feel like the Day Cream is a bit too much for me, and leaves my skin feeling a little wet, no matter how much I use. With the Light Skin Peel… I just don’t like the feel of rubbing it off with a dry towel. Another Reviva reviewer told me on Twitter to use it in the shower to wipe it off wet. It won’t ruin the effect. I do feel the Light Skin Peel is an intricate part of the system, so here’s hoping 😉

The only item I ran out of was the Cleanser. I still have a decent amount left of the other products. I probably overdid the use on the cleanser, because you really don’t need that much. I started this system on February 25 and it’s taken over 2 months to run out of cleanser using it twice a day. That is AMAZING.

The cost is pretty decent as well, the whole system that I wrote about above has a retail value of $67.50. NOT bad when you see how long it lasts and the results it provides. You pay so much more for other systems that do not seem to work as well and are not as friendly to your skin.

Do yourself a favor, check out the website, see what Reviva is all about!
