Top 10 New Hair Care Lines

There’s been a lot of hair care hitting my doorstep lately. Some brands I’ve heard of before and some I’ve never even seen a blip of. Since they’ve been arriving in 2016 I’ve been giving them all a go… and so has my husband, son and daughter. Because it’s go all or go home when it comes to hair care 😉 Below I’ve picked out a few of my (our) favorites from what’s shown up and discussed why they’re awesome to make up this weeks Top 10 Tuesday – New Hair Care Lines.

1 // The largest collection of products I have to share in this list are from Matrix. This first group is from the StyleLink Collection which is their award-winning styling line. A couple are missing from the photo because my husband stole them… basically his holy grail hair styling product of choice was from Redken and they broke his heart and discontinued it. Around that time all of this stuff from Matrix showed up and he fell in love with the Over Achiever 3-in-1 ($18.00 // ULTA Beauty) and the Shape Switcher($18.00 // ULTA Beauty). He likes to have all-day hold but not have his hair look overly crunchy because then he says his hair looks like it’s thinning =| High maintenance.

My personal faves from StyleLink are the Smooth Setter Smoothing Cream($18.00 // ULTA Beauty) and Height Riser Volumizing Powder ($18.00 // ULTA Beauty). The Smoothing Cream really helps keep my frizz at bay without weighing it down in all the wrong places. Height Riser sucks up the excessive oil in my crown and gives an excellent hold all day.

2 // In keeping with the Matrix love we need to talk about the best smelling line of hair care in all of the land – Oil Wonders Volume Rose. Yes, you just saw “Oil” and “Volume” in the same title. I was a big skeptic because I wrestle with a very oily scalp, yet my favorite product from this line ended up being the Oil Wonders Volume Rose Plumping Mousse ($20.00 // ULTA Beauty). It kept frizz down and added volume… all without making my hair look oily. By days end my style still looked good, though it didn’t last into the next day like with Height Riser. When I’m looking for a sleeker style and the overall appearance of thick hair this one is my choice.

3 // You didn’t think I’d let Matrix swing on by without talking about dry shampoo did you? A lot of dry shampoos cross my path (since I basically need to inhale it to survive my oily headed life) but the Miracle Extender ($16.00 // ULTA Beauty) has me at another level. Super fab second day hair without the residue AND it smells TDF. YAAASSSS.

4 // StriVectin does hair care?! OF COURSE! Their Color Care Line($22.00-$29.00 // ULTA Beauty) is fabulous for not only keeping your dye job in check but will give you the qualities of strength, vibrancy, easy to manage… all those things youthful, untreated hair has. My hair feels shiny and soft even when I’m due for a touch-up at the salon. There are several other collections within the line, so if Color Care isn’t up your alley make sure to check the others out.

5 // If you’re looking to remove impurities pick yourself up some AveenoPure Renewal Shampoo & Conditioner($5.99 // Target). They use natural seaweed extract to refresh and make hair more manageable without over-stripping.

6 // For vitamin-infused, professional hair care you’ll want to look intoMitch Stone Shampoo & Conditioner($36.00 set // Mitch Stone). The line contains VComps which is a “proprietary blend of carefully-curated vitamins, minerals and oils, swirled together in a lush papaya base”. I loved how this worked well for both myself and my daughter (who has dry hair).

7 // When I think about a “pin-up” I’m immediately jealous. Killer bod, gorgeous skin, the best red lipstick and THE BEST HAIR. Beauty and Pinupsis a line I’ve never heard of but I was more than willing to give them a test run because of my pin-up obsession as well as the gorgeous packaging. There is a lot to choose from but my favorite item is the Sway Blow Out Styling Primer($26.00 // Beauty and Pin Ups). It cuts down on drying time while also cutting down on frizz. My daughter, with her dry hair, loves the Flaunt Silkening Shampoo and the Luxe Leave-In Spray On Revitalizing Conditioner.

8 // My holy grail for extending the look of my highlights in between touch-ups (as you know) is the John FriedaSheer Blonde line ($3.59 // ULTA Beauty). This extends the look of highlights for me so that I’m only going every other month rather than every month.

9 // Speaking of extending things you know that the Redken Pillow Proof($20.00 // ULTA Beauty) holds an extra special place in my heart. I use this frequently for getting an extra day out of my style and absorbing oils. I also need to give a major shout out to Braid Aid($25.00 // ULTA Beauty) because it’s literally the only way I can style my daughters hair and Beach Envy Volume Wave Aid ($20.00 // ULTA Beauty) for being my beach wavy hair drug of choice this coming Summer.

10 // Did you really think I’d let a Top 10 go by without mentioning the brand that started my entire frizz free lifestyle? Living Proofholds many faves of mine, most notably the no frizz line. Now they have a No Frizz Nourishing Oil($20.00 // Sephora). An OIL, you say? For this oily head? YES. Because I keep it only from the nape of the neck to the ends. It’s best for coarse hair, so a very little will do ya if you’re just trying to combat weather related frizzies.

Beauty lovers are the easiest to shop for. It’s almost as though the options are limitless! This week, for Makeup Wars, we’re giving some recommendations on stocking stuffers. Below you’ll find Stocking Stuffer Ideas for a Beauty Lover – and there’s sure to be something that you know they’ll love 😉

Holiday Lips:

COVERGIRL Outlast Longwear Lipstick* (find it at ULTA Beauty). The shade shown below is called Sofia in Love and was made for Sofia Vergara to wear on her wedding day to Joe Manganiello! That basically means it’s the perfect red – there are many other reds to choose from so be sure to check out Red Siren, Red Revenge or Red Rogue!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick (find it at Macy’s). You’ve heard the hype and it’s real. It’s the lip color that won’t quit so it’s the perfect gift! I’m wearing Heathers in this photo and I was SO impressed with how well it lasted through a Christmas party full of eats and drinks.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (find it at ULTA Beauty). If you’re looking to save money these are the next best thing to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks. The color selection is decent and you have a lot more neutral options than with ABH. I’d recommend buying them online, though… my stores are always sold out of the best colors!!

LUSH Santa Baby (find it at LUSH). My fave lip tint is now in a tube! Seasonally appropriate and it smells, tastes and looks amazing. Buy buy buy!

Hooked on Hair:

Redken* (find it at ULTA Beauty). Three products I’ve been using and loving from Redken are the Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender, Express Primer and Diamond Oil. It’s been a whole other level of hair care for me. The oil is the only one I’ve tried that doesn’t seem to travel up my strands and into the crown of my head making it even more oily. It stays where you put it and to me that’s a miracle. If the giftee enjoys hair care, they need this trio.

For the Brow Obsessed:

Salon Perfect* (find it at Walmart). Have they whined about how they want to try awesome brow gels and powders but they’re so expensive? Hook them up with the Salon Perfect ones at Walmart. Same thing, a third of the cost!

Always Doe-Eyed:

Salon Perfect Lashes* (find it at Walmart). If lashes are worn then you can never ever own enough. I know for my cousin if I handed her a stocking full of false lashes she’d love me forever. The Salon Perfect lashes are available at Walmart and look really good on.

Nudestix* (find it at Sephora). The Nudestix line is full of perfect multi-taskers. Travel-friendly and easy to use you’ll find items that work well on lips, eyes, cheeks and brows! So, if you’re not sure what they’d like this line will cover every single base with minimal product purchasing.

Gaga for Gadgets:

Real Techniques* (find it at ULTA Beauty). If they’re into brushes you need to get them some of the Bold Metals line from Real Techniques. They’re so pretty and the metal handles make them seasonally perfect.

Salon Perfect* (find it at Walmart). Affordable beauty gadgets abound! Who else not only has lashes and brow products but also a handy tool for helping you apply those lashes?! Get on it.

Because They Love Skin Care:

AVEENO* (find it at Target). There is some skin sensitivity up in this house and we are good with Aveeno. If the person you’re stuffing a stocking for is picky about what they can put on their body this line is an excellent choice. There are wonderful items available for the body and also the face.

Murad* (find it at ULTA Beauty). I put a lot of Murad on my face and have recently become very obsessed with the benefits of Vitamin C. They have a lot of products to suit any skin issues (or non-issues) but if your recipient hasn’t checked out the “C” line you must introduce them!

Lather* (find it at lather.com). If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen this one already – but it smells so good it’s landing here too so no one misses out! Lather has 4 options of stocking stuffers that smell amazing. It’s a candle/soap duo that you can get in Lavender, Lemongrass, Vanilla and Cranberry Orange.

Manicure Addicted:

OPI* (find it at ULTA Beauty). OPI has released some gorgeous nail polish sets lately full of fun ways to jazz up core colors. You can also currently find their new Starlight collection in stores now!

Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens (find it at Target). I’m not the greatest at nail art but I love to use these pens when I want to doodle a bit on my nails. If your person loves nail art these will be an excellent way for them to customize their looks.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish* (find it at Walgreens). For budget friendly nail polish options Sinful Polish gives you a ton of colors, both neutral and loud. Because they’re so reasonably priced it’s an easy add on to a gift or even easier to fill up an entire stocking with!

Pretty Perfect Nail Polish* (find it at prettyperfect.com). I talked about this brand last year – you can pick a polish and put ANY name you want on it. Everyone likes to see their name on things 😉 Ask someone to marry you with one… there are endless options!

If You’re On a Budget:

ELF* (find it at Target). I originally posted these items on my Instagram but they’re perfect for this post as well because they’re the best at being budget friendly! Basically anything you choose will work so pick what works best for the recipient. There are also some amazing holiday kits out!

Hard Candy* (find it at Walmart). If your recipient loves to bring the fun and flash then Hard Candy is the budget friendly beauty pick for them! Beautiful picks are available for holiday including palettes, kits, lip gloss and even a Disco Lip Gloss ball!

PIXI Beauty* (find it at Target). PIXI has a fabulous collection of core items as well as holiday picks. You’ll find everything you need in this section from holiday sets to lip balms to liners to shadows… anything you can think of!

Pick from the list and mix it up or stock them up on their must-haves (if they love lashes they can never have enough)!

Top 10 Hair Products to Try

I have been posting SO MUCH hair care lately that it’s only appropriate to do a Top 10 Hair Products post. Even as I sit here typing this I’m thinking of all of the products I forgot to include in this. There are easily enough for a Top 20 so I’m going to keep this post to my most recent discoveries of faves!

In no particular order:

  1. Redken. Lately this brand has really been on my radar, mostly thanks to my husband (see Favorite Hair Product for a Man below). First off, I’ve been using their Texturizing Sea Spray* ($ // ULTA Beauty) and Braid Aid* ($25.00 // ULTA Beauty) on my daughters hair. She has this very silky, fine hair that is impossible to deal with for styling. Braids, updos… nothing ends up working out or lasting because her strands slip out. I use the Sea Spray all over her hair and brush it through (not saturated, but misted) and then put some of the Braid Aid on my fingers as I work on her look. It’s been a Godsend!
    I’ve also been playing around with their Frizz Dismiss line* ($8.50-$35.50 // ULTA Beauty) and have been loving how it’s keeping my frizz to a minimum this Summer My hair is manageable with this, and that, I like. This is sulfate & sodium chloride-free.
  2. DermOrganic. Leave-In Spray Therapy* ($20.00 // ULTA Beauty) has been fabulous for when my hair is curled and I want to run my hands through it to separate it up a bit. This product adds shine to my strands without weighing them down.
  3. Living Proof. If a Perfect Hair Day* ($26.00 // Sephora) is all you need then you’ve found it! I’m a huge fan of this brands No Frizz line ($15.00-$36.00 // Sephora) and Perfect Hair Day is just as fabulous to smooth into wet or damp hair to help keep your mane in check during the suffering of the weather. 😉 (Review).
  4. Peter Coppola. The Keratin Concept Legacy Collection* (Review) kept my hair in check during 118 degree Las Vegas heat. It doesn’t get more impressive than that. Purchase at petercoppola.com.
  5. Keune. The line is fabulous for helping my hair look less oily. It’s extremely impressive how well it does that as well as keeps frizz at bay. Find a salon here to purchase. (Review).
  6. Nora Ross. Garlic Shampoo & Conditioner* may seem intimidating, but there is no garlic smell and the benefits are insane. Very clarifying, very hair softening. Purchase on the website. (Review).
  7. Sebastian. Potion 9 ($18.95 // ULTA Beauty), y’all. I got this in a beauty sub box and haven’t let it go since. It’s a must-have styling product if you’re into flexible hold.. which I am. I also love their Shaper Plus Extra Hold Hairspray ($10.00 // ULTA Beauty) for times when I needs me some hold.
  8. Suave. Popping mousse in my hair is the best way to get my curls to hold all day long. My go-to for awhile now has been Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Mousse* ($6.49 // Walgreens). Pop some of that in wet hair, brush through, blow dry… get to stylin’.
  9. Biotera. I did an entire post on awesome dry shampoos and Biotera Invisible Dry Shampoo* ($7.69 // Sally Beauty) is one of my top picks from that post. Great at absorbing that nasty oil and making you look like you actually washed your hair that day. No residue, no problems!
  10. CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™. The Intense Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner* ($4.99-$5.99 // Target) have been instrumental at fixing up the scalps and chlorine damaged hair of the women in this house. Affordable and a must-have for a Summer hair fix! (Review).

Favorite Hair Product for a Man: Redken For Men Firm Grasp Texturizing Clay ($19.00 // ULTA Beauty). My husband, he is a diva. He loves that this holds but doesn’t make his hair look overly-styled and crunchy.

Hair Products I Want to Try: Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo ($7.99 // ULTA Beauty). I read a ton of reviews on this line awhile ago but haven’t had the chance to try it! It’s on the list to get at ASAP!

Also this week I’m testing outmystery hair care! Any guesses as to what it is? I won’t even know myself until the end of the week!

The hubbster loves soft hair. I’m not talking about mine, I mean he likes HIS hair feeling soft. I believe him because he’s constantly stealing my shampoo to the point where it doesn’t end evenly with my conditioners and that drives me insane.

I just might have been more excited than him when the Redken for Men Full Impact Bodifying Shampoo arrived. My girlie shampoo is now all my own 😉 I immediately put it in the shower and told him to test it out and tell me his thoughts.

Hubby insists that Redken for Men Full Impact Bodifying Shampoo does make his hair feel soft and smells “manly”. He’s also pleased to find out that this shampoo is also formulated to plump up fine or thinning hair (which he doesn’t have an issue with yet but is still vainly paranoid about).

Ulta Invites You to Their 21 Days of Beauty! Take the Hair Pledge & Enter to Win $100!

So, here I am running around in a full face of makeup with scraggle hair. My pledge only takes an extra 20 minutes out of my day to blow dry and flat iron myself into something presentable. DO-ABLE! With the 21 products provided by ULTA Beauty, I chose my faves and did three hair looks.Look 1:For this look I used Rusk Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, Conair You Style Hair Dryer, Hot Tools Nano Ceramic 1/2″ Flat Iron, Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray, Matrix Biolage Style Mousse and Kenra Volume Spray.

On the first day I wanted to start simply and just basically do what I’d normally do but amp it up. I washed my hair using the Rusk Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, which smelled like grapefruits and had an excellent lather. The conditioner is technically a leave-in, but my hair tends to look weighed down, so I rinsed it out after leaving it in for a few minutes. I dried using the Conair You Style Hair Dryer, which dried my hair fast and had a gentle blast. After that I put in Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray then flat ironed with the Hot Tools Nano Ceramic 1/2″ Flat Iron (which is mini and perfect for getting those hard to handle flyaways or would be amazing for short hair). Finishing off, I added in the Matrix Biolage Style Mousse and Kenra Volume Spray, which added thickness and volume to my hair.

Look 2:For this look I used Schwarzkoff Professional: Osis + Mattifying Powder, Conair More Big Curls Hairsetter and Redken Control Addict 28.

On the second day I wanted to definitely test out how the mattifying powder worked. I have such problems finding a product that will actually suck the grease out of my roots. The Schwarzkoff Professional: Osis + Mattifying Powder does the job tenfold. With this, I found it’s best to tap a little in your hands and work through your roots. After I rolled up my hair with the Conair More Big Curls Hairsetter and left them in for about 20 minutes. Upon taking them out I flipped my head over and spritzed in some Redken Control Addict 28 and voila. Volume. Normally, if I don’t wash my hair every day, it’s flat as a pancake and basically pretty disgusting. Between the Mattifying Powder and Hot Rollers…we’re in business.

Look 3For this look I used the ABBA Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner, Big Sexy Hair Root Pump, TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out Straightening Cream and the Hot Tools Cheetah 1″ Tapered Iron.

This was my fave look because it was so bombshell and really very different for what I do on an every day basis. The ABBA Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner smell AMAZING. The Shampoo had an excellent lather and the scent was energizing and minty. While my hair was still damp I put in the TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out Straightening Cream because my hair is so frizzy I had to straighten it a bit before I went ahead and curled it. I know…it’s a rough life. With the Big Sexy Hair Root Pump, I simply flipped my head over and sprayed, then after I curled and sprayed it again just sort of around my head using it as a hair spray. Those curls lasted all day, through heavy wind. Amaze. The Hot Tools Cheetah 1″ Tapered Iron is the stuff dreams are made of. It includes a glove so you won’t burn yourself and curling my hair was quick and easy.

Create the Look:

  1. Apply satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to damp hair and blow-dry straight.
  2. Create a deep left side part, pulled all the way across and out of the face.
  3. Use a flat iron to make the hair perfectly straight.
  4. Use fashion work 12 versatile working spray to tame any fly-away’s.
  5. Apply shine flash 02 glistening mist for a light shine (not heavy gloss) – hair should look “healthy.”
  6. Tuck hair behind the ears.

Create the Look:

  1. Start with damp hair and spray guts 10 root targeted spray foam throughout, this will give it some texture and ensure that when it’s pinned up, it will stay.
  2. Rough dry hair brushing straight back with a boar-bristle brush.
  3. Wrap fabric headband around head tying at the nape of the neck.
  4. Gather hair into a loose ponytail and secure with elastic 4 inches from the ends of the hair.
  5. Fold the loose ponytail up into a messy chignon and pin with open fasteners
  6. Mist entire style with fashion work 12 versatile working spray.
