The Makeup Show NYC Sneak Peek!

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

It’s almost time for The Makeup Show NYC! I’m so excited to be attending the show again this year. My first trip to The Makeup Show was in 2014 and it was one of the best times. The 2014 show was incredibly organized (which you know I appreciate like no other) with a ton of exhibitors and amazing makeup artists sharing their tips and tricks through keynote forums, seminars and workshops.

For 2016 the event looks to be even more amazing. I’m most interested in checking out the Keynote Forums “I’m With the Brand: From My Living Room to L’Oreal with Wende Zomnir” (Urban Decay, anyone?) and “Here’s Where I Am: Setting Your Own Success” with Johnny Lavoy, James Vincent and Danessa Myricks as well as seminars with artists from NARS, Kat Von D Beauty, Make Up For Ever, OCC… I mean… SO MANY. Also, my friend Brandon Tucker from Pür Cosmetics is running one on the second day so I’m excited to be there to support him and see him in action!

In this blog post I’m sharing a sneak peek of a few products that will be at The Makeup Show NYC. When I get back I’ll have a round-up of everything that went on so stay tuned!

MAKE UP FOR EVER

As I’m sure you’ve seen Make Up For Ever has partnered with Charli XCX and released a line of Aqua XL Eye Pencils. These waterproof pencils are super smooth and so soft. I found them very easy to apply and they wore all day long, even in the waterline! They will retail for $21.00 each and you can pick them up at Sephora. Right now, if you’re VIB Rouge, you can grab the Charli XCX Festival Faves for $49.00.

KAT VON D

Everyone knows Kat Von D and her Shade + Light Palette is the thing of miracles. Now there are smaller ones available with some color mixed in. The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad ($26.00 // Sephora) comes in four shade variations and I was sent the one in Sage which is a beautiful mixture of greens and beiges. I thought the colors were very pigmented and applied nicely over the base that I used. I found it best to blend with a pressing pattern and a slight push so that the color faded out evenly in the effect.

I addition the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush ($29.00 // Sephora) worked very well for picking up the colors in the palettes and applying to the eye.

Below I’m wearing the Kat Von D Sage Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad over the Crown Studio Glam Shadow Sticks in Pearly White (inner corner) and Gold Dust (lid). Make Up For Ever M-14 Aqua XL is the liner.

OCC

OCC Lip Tar($16.00 // OCC) are now in ready-to-wear form and Lip Pencils ($16.00 // OCC) make a fabulous base! I’m loving Indrid paired with Sebastian!

SMASHBOX

Now I’m not sure of the name of this Smashbox Lip Gloss but it says J. Vincent on the back soooo… you can imagine =D . It’s the perfect light beige shade that I love to put on top of darker shades to make them glossy AF. There’s a slight shimmer that isn’t apparent when you wear. Simple, and perfect!

CROWN BRUSH

Crown Brush is a professional private label that sells makeup and brushes at extremely affordable prices. I went a little crazy on the brushes at their booth last year. This year I’m excited to check out their line of Pro Makeup, including the Studio Glam Shadow Sticks($3.99 // Crown Brush).

These are shown below and they make incredible bases for shadows. I found that they held the eye look ALL DAY without a secondary primer needed!

Bdellium Tools // Stilazzi

Speaking of awesome and affordable makeup brushes Bdellium Tools and Stilazzi will also be at TMS! I purchased some Bdellium brushes before and love them. I’m excited to play with more of the Stilazzi at the show since they have a color cosmetic line also!

Alcone Company

Can we just take a minute to talk about how awesome the Alcone Company Make-Off Make-Up Cloths are? You know I’m a total lover of makeup removing wipes and I don’t mess around when it comes to giving you a solid review of what I like and don’t like (anyone from my snapfam here remember the awful ones I went on about last week?). These ones take off EVERYTHING. I love that they’re individually wrapped so they’re ideal for travel and you don’t have to worry about them drying out.

From Alcone at The Makeup Show this year you can also find color cosmetics like the Enduring Lip Color and skincare like One Drop Wonder (shown below).

MustaeV

MustaeV is a brand I’ve never heard of and I was so completely impressed by the eyeshadow sent over that I’m making it a point to visit the booth to check out the rest. The quad (pictured above) is pricey, but the quality is out of this world!

Are you headed to The Makeup Show this year? If you are make sure you say hi and if you’re not make sure you follow me on Snapchat and Instagram to check out all of the shenanigans that will be happening in New York this weekend! You never know who else you might see on there 😉

Top 10 Lipsticks to Bring On the Summer Heat!

Affiliate Links

So I just got back from my son’s baseball game (where he kicked major butt, I might add!) and it was HOT. But that good hot where it feels awesome but you don’t sweat at all. Sadly Happily everything makes me think about makeup and while I’m sitting there the opposing teams bold orange uniforms reminded me of Summer Lipsticks! Orange-red, coral Summer lipsticks, to be exact! Between the heat and the uniforms I thought this would be a great shade to focus on for my Top 10 Summer Lipsticks post!

  1. Dior Addict Tie Dye Lipstick in Coral Trip ($33.00 // Nordstrom). I recently reviewed these lipsticks here and am obsessed. Glossy, hydrating and wearable day or night with buildable pigment. You can’t ask for much more! Unfortunately these are limited edition so if you love this one as much as I do get your hands on it asap!
  2. Too Faced Melted Metal in Debutante ($21.00 // Sephora). I recently picked a few of these up at Sephora and haven’t had the chance to post about them yet but they are perfect for Summer.. majorly metallic, but in a wearable way, which is important to me.
  3. OCC Metallic Lip Tar in Manhunter ($18.00 // OCC). This caught my eye when I was buying the Too Faced Melted Metals. It’s a seriously orange-red with golden shimmer. Not so much a day-time shade, IMO, but when you wear this out at night it definitely screams “I mean business and I’m here to run sh…“. I’m not seeing it on the Sephora website but you can still pick it up on the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics site.
  4. PIXI Beauty Shea Butter Lip Balm in Coral Crush ($8.00 // Target). A moisturizing, tinted lip balm that packs the perfect punch of color for day or night. Swatches and review are here.
  5. Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm in Orange ($5.69 // Target). This little balm amps up your lips more than you’d think but it’s nice to keep in your bag for a quick dose of tinted moisture because it’s easy to reapply.
  6. Pur Minerals Pout Pen in Fuzzy Navel ($20.00 // ULTA Beauty). If you’re looking for a color to last you’ve got to keep a Pout Pen handy. I love that it comes with the stain and then a balm on the other side! Swatches and review are here.
  7. MAC Lipstick in Morange ($16.00 // Nordstrom). How could anyone do a round-up of bold Summer lippies and not include MAC Morange? It’s probably the first lipstick that pops into your head when you think Orange Lipstick – definitely a fave of many!
  8. Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick in Matte Passion ($5.99 // Milani). A comfortable and bold matte lip that won’t dry you out! Swatches and review are here.
  9. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Lana ($32.00 // Sephora). This is arguably one of my favorite lipstick formulas so of course it’s got to be included in a round up of screamingly fabulous bright lipsticks. Lana is my pick for this round-up but it’s the dream to own the all as they are all loved equally by me… like children.
  10. Urban Decay Revolution High Color Lip Gloss in Punch Drunk ($22.00 // Sephora). While not a lipstick it’s definitely pigmented enough to be so it’s okay that I include it here, right?! When I saw these I needed them all, and I do have a few coming up for swatching and review 😉 For now, bask in the love for Punch Drunk!

The Makeup Show NYC 2014 Round-Up! (pic heavy)

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

YOU GUYS! I had the BEST time at The Makeup Show NYC in May! The event itself is, IMO, very organized and high energy while still being professional. I got to attend this event as press so you may have seen some photos on Instagram, but now I’m excited to share all of the info I learned on the new products with you!

From the press release:

NEW YORK, NY (May 2014) The Makeup Show NYC, which took place May 4th and 5th, at Metropolitan Pavilion closes with more inspiration and education than ever before. In its 9th year, The Makeup Show NYC brought together 7,000attendees, and proved to be the most inspiring year yet with the return of The Makeup Show Career Fair, addition of over30 new exhibitors and brands, as well as over 20 additional classes. Pro artists found an array of color and cosmetics in every corner, could shop at more than 120 beauty brands each offering exclusive show prices, and be inspired from nearly 70 keynotes,hands-on workshops, seminars, as well as kit focus and career classes.

It was hard to visit every booth because there were so many fabulous brands and so many people, but I tried my best to maneuver around and talk to everyone I could. The most exciting thing I learned? Charlotte Tilbury is launching in the states in September! While I was devastated they weren’t selling product there (I’m lemming every thing from this brand) it was fantastic to finally get to play around with their line. September can’t get here soon enough!

Ardency Inn was another huge favorite of mine at the event. They weren’t selling a ton of product (the line itself is new) but we did get to preview a few items and I picked up some MODESTER Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliners that you can water line with and they.don’t.budge.

MAC PRO was there front and center with their amazing products and artists. Gina Bettelli was the first seminar I sat down for where she taught Recreating Icons.

The next seminar was from OCC Makeup and was taught by Courtney Tichman. Pretty as a Drag Queen indeed. Look how stunning she is!

NARS gave me a minor (okay, major) fan girl moment as Cindy Rodriguez taught Contouring and Highlighting with NARS Matte Multiples and Contour Brushes. Her skill level is fantastic and she’s completely sweet and gorgeous. I loved her lip color so I had to run right over to the NARS booth to purchase! NARS also had their #NARSISSIST signs for selfies while you wait in line!

This was the first time I got to see Jouer Cosmetics in person. I’m now such a super-fan! Their eyeshadow sticks are phenomenal (yes, I bought) and I went insane for the lipgloss! I can’t wait to try more!

Pursebuzz was on hand with Violet Voss, though it was way too busy to meet her. My step-sis is below getting glitter on her lips by one of the artists! It stayed on SO WELL all day!

Other brands on hand that I stopped by were Crown Brush, Ofra, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Temptu PRO (review here), BreakUps to Makeup and more! – you can expect reviews from me on all of the products purchased!

(Tweezerman)

(Naked Cosmetics)

(Velour Lashes)

(MUFE Academy)

(INGLOT)

(GrandeLASH)

It was a fantastic and way too short tip, but it was awesome to meet all of the fantastic artists, learn some new tricks and meet up with a few of my fave bloggers!

The Makeup Show Chicago is going on RIGHT NOW! What brand would you visit first?

We pledge never to use animal-derived ingredients (including Lanolin, Beeswax, Carmine and more) in our products and accessories. Founder David Klasfeld is still directly involved in the formulation of all new products and as a makeup artist himself is sure to always bring the latest trends in colour to the market. www.occmakeup.com

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics MELANGE Lip Tar Swatches & Review

Affiliate Links

Because I was so impressed with my first OCC Lip Tar in Memento, a second choice was going to be a sure fire purchase. During my April visit to NYC for IMATS I got to visit the OCC booth and play around a bit… Melange came home with me.

What Sephora says about OCC Lip Tar:

What it is:
A high-opacity lipstick concentrate with unprecedented longevity.

What it does:
Flash a fabulous smile and a stunning splash of color with this lip formula that combines the longevity of a lipstick with the breezy application of a gloss. The rich pigment will drench your pout and the blend of essential oils, including hemp and peppermint, will soothe and soften the skin for a supremely comfortable finish. For easy travel and application, each Lip Tar comes with a vinyl carrying case and mini lip brush.

This set contains:
– 0.33 oz Lip Tar
– Mini lip brush
– Vinyl pouch

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens

What else you need to know:
This straight-forward formula does not contain petroleum or silicone and is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free.

Melange (terracotta neutral) is the perfect medium peach to wear for any season. Like Memento, Melange spreads on evenly even with a small amount and provides a ton of pigment. I didn’t put it on too thickly, because who IRL would actually wear it that way just walking down the street, and was happy to notice that it felt almost moisturizing and wasn’t sticky at all. Wear time was maybe a bit longer than a normal lipstick, but it still comes off if you eat or drink.

Normally, the Lip Tars come with a brush applicator and how-to card, but since I purchased this one discounted at IMATS I only got the tube of tar.

OCC Lip Tar retails for $18.00 and they are available on the OCC website and Sephora.

IMATS 2013 – Show Photos, Haul & NYC Trip (pic heavy)

You guys….. New York City is amazing. The trip to the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) was quick, but jam packed with good times. My step-sister Dinessa and I left Friday morning and arrived in NYC just in time to drop off our bags and go to IMATS Pro Night to shop. (Which ended up being the best idea possible because when the event opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday shopping is stressful and near impossible. We were glad to be able to spend time on those days speaking with people doing demonstrations, watching and learning.)

FYI: Maybe I got a little out of hand with pics, but this was my first trip to IMATS and my first event as “Press” so it’s a milestone!

Of all of the exhibitors I was especially excited to check out Inglot, since I’ve never been able to before, and am definitely ordering more online ASAP. It’s slightly addicting.

I also have a new found love in Jesse’s Girl and bought a few products to swatch:

As well as an intense interest in the brand Cailyn who do amazing things with gel liners and the inovative Vibrating Foundation Applicator. We watched the woman below transform before our eyes and become instantly 10 years younger with their BB Cream. Stunning!

We also spent some time checking out the products from OCC and the fun Hydrocolors from WolfeFX.

This is what I hauled from IMATS. Not nearly enough! I did got back with the intent to buy more from Inglot and Cailyn but it was just so busy at that point I felt like ordering online was a better idea.

Make Up For Ever Academy was doing some amazing thing with the nicest model ever for their exhibition:

And a few other artists (representing schools or brands) also showed off their skill:

We also got the chance to check out a few demonstrations from Vargas and Roshar.

Vargas has a ridiculous amount of skill and creativity. I can’t even begin to tell you how impressed we were with his technique and how he worked the products he was using. Vargas demonstrated Fantasy and Faces: Beyond Color, Shimmer and Glitter Applications. The way he so beautifully and easily applied glitter seriously made me think that this is just something I could do for every day. Which would clearly not be appropriate, but he’s just THAT GOOD.

I got some before pictures of his characters, as well as some during the demo and after photos of the demon sea creature 😉

Before the demo:

During the demo:

Vargas used special brushes from Royal & Langnickel to create the hair brush strokes and flame effect.

At the end of the day:

Roshar is quite literally the most entertaining person I’ve ever seen. He’s completely self-taught, which is so impressive because all of his talent is within and truly his own. The demo we were able to sit in on featured him doing up a Fantasy Editorial. The end result was CRAZY amazing!

The only panel we caught was on Gaining Representation: Exploring the Artist/Agent Relationship. It was basically just a Do’s and Don’ts as well as what you can expect from your Agent and what your Agent expects from you. Which is basically be professional, know your place, don’t be a pain in the butt.

This panel was supposed to be moderated by Roshar, but at the last minute Kevin James Bennett swept in to cover. You could say I had a fan-girl moment because he pops up sometimes in the BBC and he’s gloriously entertaining and refreshingly blunt. I’m sad he had to run off right after or I’d have photo-opped him 😉

But by far, our favorite thing to see was the Character/Prosthetic Student Competition. The talent was just unbelievable. The theme was OZ and the competitors had only 3 hours to work on their creations before the intense judging took place. First a few of the competitors working their magic…

… and the amazing end results (and, you’re welcome, because I took SO MANY photos of this I could have really spammed the heck out of you with pics… especially of the blue-haired guy and the ballerina):

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen a few of these next pics. In case you don’t here are some of my faves and also shout-outs to the lovely bloggers I met this past weekend!

First up, the bloggers! I first ran into Eugenia from Geniabeme and Casey from Beauty101 and they are awesome and hilarious!

Next I ran into Judy from BeautyJudy and she’s all sorts of adorable that I almost tried to bring her home with me =P

Finally, I met Xiao from Messy Wands! MY MESSY! Finally! Just as fabulous in person, BTW.

And finally just a few pics of Dinessa and I running around the city taking selfies 😉

At IMATS Afterglow (some of my fave pics)

Times Square

Canal Street #Swag (we are seriously still laughing over that one)

Nomming in Little Italy:

And some shots of our hotel room view & Dinessa checking out the view from Dream where Afterglow was held….

Also, while in NYC we had to seek out and visit MAC PRO, since we’ve never been to one.

And also hauled!

This is the haul from Sephora in Times Square:

Each haul will have separate review posts for each item as I go through them 😉 Anything you’re wanting to see first?

Did you hit up IMATS? Did you get anything good or meet any of your favorite people?

If you’ll be in the area for The Makeup Show be sure to enter to win a 2-day pass 😉

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics MEMENTO Lip Tar Swatches & Review

There aren’t many beauty lovers out there who haven’t heard of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (or OCC), especially since they recently debuted at Sephora. One of the most talked about and loved products for OCC are the Lip Tars. The Lip Tars come in a WIDE variety of shades (I’m talking purples and greens to go with the nudes and pinks) but for my first try I played it safe and stuck to a tried and true rosy pink – Memento.

– Mini lip brush
– Vinyl pouch

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens

What else you need to know:
This straight-forward formula does not contain petroleum or silicone and is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free.

Memento is a lovely medium pink creamy lip color. I love that this gloss comes with a “how-to” application card as well as a small lip brush. The product spreads on evenly even with a small amount and provides a ton of pigment. I didn’t put it on too thickly, because who IRL would actually wear it that way just walking down the street, and was happy to notice that it felt almost moisturizing and wasn’t sticky at all. Wear time was maybe a bit longer than a normal lipstick, but it still comes off if you eat or drink.

OCC Lip Tar retails for $18.00 and they are available on the OCC website and Sephora.
