16 Holiday Makeup Must-Haves

Since August (!!!!!) Holiday makeup collections have been out in full force and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. Because I love to shop I thought it’d be fun to share with you a few beauty items I picked up and a few that are on my wishlist (based on reviews from websites and other bloggers). Note: these items are, for the most part, limited edition. Shop early!

In alphabetical order:

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette($42.00 // ULTA Beauty). I bought this when it first released and am obsessed with it. You know you’ve heard of it, you know you want it. I also need that Mario palette!
  2. beautyblender® + Too Faced Holiday Kit($40.00 // Sephora). I’m obsessed with this. It’s baby pink AND it has an awesome beautyblender AND one of my favorite TF highlighters AND a blotterazzi that I LOVE. Everyone just go ahead and buy me this for my bday. I’ll wait.
  3. BECCA Blushed With Light Palette($34.00 // Sephora). BECCA blushes are just so pretty and glowy… one of the few brands where I don’t mind my blushes to shimmer a bit because it’s not overkill and doesn’t accent pores.
  4. Benefit Cosmetics Sassy Lassie “Chick Picks” Beauty Bestsellers Kit($39.00 // Sephora). So many new products, so little time. This kit features 4 of the must-have products from the brand, all of which I love!
  5. Bobbi Brown New York Palette($65.00 // Nordstrom). Sure, the colors are something you might already own… but you guys know how I love packaging. Also how much I LOVE New York. There are also kits for Paris and London!
  6. Burberry Beauty Festive Set($115.00 // Nordstrom). Military Red Lipstick is one of my fave reds ever and it’s in this kit. That along with nail polish and a lot of glow make it a NEED.
  7. Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Muse Luxury Palette($52.00 // Nordstrom). Excellent shadow quality from this brand PLUS all the gold tones you need to do holiday in one palette.
  8. IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Essentials Your Superhero Eyes Must-Have Eye Set($28.00 // ULTA Beauty). Oh, that’s a mouthful… but Superhero MATTE shades that you can transform into non-matte shades? Great product performance and a fabulous price. Own you some IT.
  9. Jouer Powder Highlighter($24.00 // Nordstrom). Particularly in the shade Rose Quartz. Citrine seems to be the hot seller… but Rose Quartz is where it’s at.
  10. Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lipstick Set($49.00 // Sephora). Though Lolita 2 is my fave (and not in this set) there are a ton of shades that I’d love to try and the color palette is one I gravitate towards. Except for maybe that purple… but I’d try it 😉
  11. LORAC Mega Pro Palette 3($59.00 // ULTA Beauty). LORAC has always had wonderful shadows and I love their palettes… but Mega Pro 3 is really speaking to me in all the ways.
  12. MAKE UP FOR EVER Artistic Lip Ink and Brush Set ($40.00 // Sephora). I love a good red and I love how different the product is. Definitely a good shade for the holidays!
  13. PÜR Cosmetics The Perfect Matte 5 Pc Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick Collection w/ Lip Oil($34.00 // ULTA Beauty). Another long product name but you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to try this liquid lipstick. I work fo the brand and can’t get my hands on them! Insanely popular, must have.
  14. Sephora Favorites Trending: Beauty’s Most Coveted($75.00 // Sephora). Fave brands + fave products = gift set win. Give to yourself 😉
  15. Tarte Tartelette Treasures Eye Set ($59.00 // ULTA Beauty). Tartelette in Bloom and Tarteist Mascara are some of my favorite products. I haven’t tried the Double Take Eyeliner but at a $92.00 value for just $59.00 I’ll take my chances.
  16. Urban Decay Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette($35.00 // Sephora). The only lip palette I’ve ever LOVED. It’s a good deal and full of must-have cold weather shades.

What’s on your beauty wishlist?

The Makeup Show NYC Sneak Peek!

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

It’s almost time for The Makeup Show NYC! I’m so excited to be attending the show again this year. My first trip to The Makeup Show was in 2014 and it was one of the best times. The 2014 show was incredibly organized (which you know I appreciate like no other) with a ton of exhibitors and amazing makeup artists sharing their tips and tricks through keynote forums, seminars and workshops.

For 2016 the event looks to be even more amazing. I’m most interested in checking out the Keynote Forums “I’m With the Brand: From My Living Room to L’Oreal with Wende Zomnir” (Urban Decay, anyone?) and “Here’s Where I Am: Setting Your Own Success” with Johnny Lavoy, James Vincent and Danessa Myricks as well as seminars with artists from NARS, Kat Von D Beauty, Make Up For Ever, OCC… I mean… SO MANY. Also, my friend Brandon Tucker from Pür Cosmetics is running one on the second day so I’m excited to be there to support him and see him in action!

In this blog post I’m sharing a sneak peek of a few products that will be at The Makeup Show NYC. When I get back I’ll have a round-up of everything that went on so stay tuned!

As I’m sure you’ve seen Make Up For Ever has partnered with Charli XCX and released a line of Aqua XL Eye Pencils. These waterproof pencils are super smooth and so soft. I found them very easy to apply and they wore all day long, even in the waterline! They will retail for $21.00 each and you can pick them up at Sephora. Right now, if you’re VIB Rouge, you can grab the Charli XCX Festival Faves for $49.00.

Everyone knows Kat Von D and her Shade + Light Palette is the thing of miracles. Now there are smaller ones available with some color mixed in. The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad ($26.00 // Sephora) comes in four shade variations and I was sent the one in Sage which is a beautiful mixture of greens and beiges. I thought the colors were very pigmented and applied nicely over the base that I used. I found it best to blend with a pressing pattern and a slight push so that the color faded out evenly in the effect.

I addition the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush ($29.00 // Sephora) worked very well for picking up the colors in the palettes and applying to the eye.

Below I’m wearing the Kat Von D Sage Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad over the Crown Studio Glam Shadow Sticks in Pearly White (inner corner) and Gold Dust (lid). Make Up For Ever M-14 Aqua XL is the liner.

OCC Lip Tar($16.00 // OCC) are now in ready-to-wear form and Lip Pencils ($16.00 // OCC) make a fabulous base! I’m loving Indrid paired with Sebastian!

Now I’m not sure of the name of this Smashbox Lip Gloss but it says J. Vincent on the back soooo… you can imagine =D . It’s the perfect light beige shade that I love to put on top of darker shades to make them glossy AF. There’s a slight shimmer that isn’t apparent when you wear. Simple, and perfect!

Crown Brush is a professional private label that sells makeup and brushes at extremely affordable prices. I went a little crazy on the brushes at their booth last year. This year I’m excited to check out their line of Pro Makeup, including the Studio Glam Shadow Sticks($3.99 // Crown Brush).

These are shown below and they make incredible bases for shadows. I found that they held the eye look ALL DAY without a secondary primer needed!

Bdellium Tools // Stilazzi

Speaking of awesome and affordable makeup brushes Bdellium Tools and Stilazzi will also be at TMS! I purchased some Bdellium brushes before and love them. I’m excited to play with more of the Stilazzi at the show since they have a color cosmetic line also!

Alcone Company

Can we just take a minute to talk about how awesome the Alcone Company Make-Off Make-Up Cloths are? You know I’m a total lover of makeup removing wipes and I don’t mess around when it comes to giving you a solid review of what I like and don’t like (anyone from my snapfam here remember the awful ones I went on about last week?). These ones take off EVERYTHING. I love that they’re individually wrapped so they’re ideal for travel and you don’t have to worry about them drying out.

From Alcone at The Makeup Show this year you can also find color cosmetics like the Enduring Lip Color and skincare like One Drop Wonder (shown below).

MustaeV is a brand I’ve never heard of and I was so completely impressed by the eyeshadow sent over that I’m making it a point to visit the booth to check out the rest. The quad (pictured above) is pricey, but the quality is out of this world!

Are you headed to The Makeup Show this year? If you are make sure you say hi and if you’re not make sure you follow me on Snapchat and Instagram to check out all of the shenanigans that will be happening in New York this weekend! You never know who else you might see on there 😉

Low Maintenance Makeup Products for High Maintenance People

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Are you high maintenance? It’s okay, on some level we all are. It’s nothing to ever be embarrassed about, but maybe there are instances when you need your beauty routine to still be high maintenance but you don’t want to look like it’s high maintenance. Below are some products that I’ve been using lately to create a psudo-low maintenance look.

Prep with Benefit The POREfessional Matte Rescue ($28.00 // Sephora). Perfect to spot treat areas that need extra mattifying and to hide pores. It’s got a slight green cast that helps with color correcting also. This product is not technically a makeup primer, so you’ll need something else on top of it if you wish to prime (see below) but you can totally skip the Benefit if you don’t need the extra pore hiding or color correction.

Prime with a multi-duty primer like the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer ($37.00 // Sephora). This tip actually IS low maintenance because it’s going to prime, color correct, hide pores AND mattify. This particular one is for oily skin but there are many options to choose from. Find the one that best suits your skin type and buy!

Layer a medium-to-full coverage mattifying foundation on top of the primer such as NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint ($44.00 // Sephora). It’s mattifying (when you’re as oily as I am, all the mattifying things you can get your hands on is what’s best). The coverage is perfect and it feels/looks light.

Hide extra things like under-eye circles and melasma with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Anti-Aging Concealer ($24.00 // ULTA Beauty). It hides the extra BS that won’t go away.

When I’m in major need of coverage I dust on a bit of IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation ($35.00 // ULTA Beauty) which helps cover a smidge more and keep it all in place. Can you tell I need the coverage?!

For extra mattifying I go in later at my oily areas with a bit of invisible setting powder. A loose powder will keep you even more matte but lately I’ve been loving the MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder ($27.00 // Nordstrom) because it’s quick and easy to tote around in my bag without making a mess. The Zac Posen release is shown below but it’s also available in the regular packaging.

Start by bronzing. Technically this is a face thing but I put most of the product at the cheek area and then work it down the jaw line and at the temples so it’s light and natural. A new product I’m loving is the IT Cosmetics Sunshine in a Compact (shown) but it’s not out yet (IDK when, I’ll find out!) so until then check out the IT Cosmetics CC + Radiance Ombre Bronzer ($34.00 // ULTA Beauty). Sunshine in a compact is matte, whereas the Ombre is not… so you really could benefit from having both anyway. 😉

Blush is necessary no matter what the makeup look. It’s also important to change up the blush color based on outfit, skintone and even your mood. The new butterLondon BlushClutch ($39.00 // ULTA Beauty) makes that easy, particularly for traveling. In addition to the clutch there are three single shades available in Hibiscus, Violet and Tiger Lily ($15.00 each // ULTA Beauty).

What’s the sun matter if it’s not bouncing off a gorgeous highlight? For my look I used Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold (which also makes for a gorgeous shadow) but I believe it’s not available anymore. For a choice that’s just as golden try NARS Frenzy Dual-Intensity Blush($45.00 // Sephora).

My lids are oily so I always prime them with something that will neutralize the color of the lids like Benefit Air Patrol ($29.00 // Sephora) as well as lock eye looks into place. Generally this is something like MAC Utterly Becoming Pro Longwar Paint Pot. Utterly Becoming isn’t available anymore but MAC Painterly Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($22.00 // Nordstrom) is a good replacement.

Your eye look will be fast, but look incredible. The new IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Essentials Matte Luxe Transforming Eye Shadow Palette($28.00 // ULTA Beauty) is perfection for creating a neutral, simple look that you can do fast but have it look like it took much longer than it did. The six shades are matte but the Transforming Hello Light shade can turn them luminous and soft in a snap. Work-safe matte to happy hour glow time.

Below this palette is swatched twice. The first time the shades are matte, the second time I applied the Transforming Hello Light on top.

Finish up by lining the eyes with a dark brown eye pencil. I love Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 // Sephora) because they go on quickly and even when you’re using a neutral shade it makes an impact. For this look I used Stag, which came in a set, but two other faves are Bourbon and Hustle.

For mascara, say it with me, IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara ($24.00 // ULTA Beauty) every time. It’s literally that false lash look without the glue and fake-ness of it all. A time saver, for sure, but still looking like there’s that effort.

In this look I decided to try a new product on my brows – the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Brow ($27.00 // Sephora). It’s got the slanted tip for easy brow application as well as the spoolie brush on the other side. A special feature is a twist off that houses a small, sponge-tipped applicator already primed with highlighter. Keep it in place with a brow gel like Anastasia Clear Brow Gel ($22.00 // Sephora).

The world is basically your oyster here. This look is so neutral that anything is wearable. Below I’m wearing COVERGIRL Punch Oh Sugar Lip Balm ($8.99 // ULTA Beauty). Bet ya thought I was going to say Chantecaille 😉

Now you’re ready! In the look below I’m wearing everything that I talked about above!

Are you high maintenance? What are your favorite products for looking low maintenance?

Top 10 Color Correcting Makeup Primers

Affiliate Links

You’ve heard of makeup primers. This year in particular you’ve heard all about color correcting. But did you know that they also co-exist? With all of the products we put on our faces to be “photoshop flawless” let’s cut out a few and check out the 2-in-1 Top 10 Color Correcting Makeup Primers!

Stila One Step Correct Triple Swirl Helix Primer($36.00 // Sephora). This multi-tasker works to make fine-lines disappear while the formula hydrates, controls oil and improves skin texture. The green tone neutralizes redness and conceals blemishes, the lavender tone counteracts sallow undertones for an energized look and the peach tone brightens, illuminates and helps to diminish the appearance of sun spots.

Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer – Adjust ($39.00 // Sephora). Adjust minimizes redness and also reduces the look of wrinkles and dark spots. There are other shades available, but Adjust proves to be one of the more popular.

NYX Cosmetics Studio Perfect Primer in Green ($12.99 // ULTA Beauty). Similar to the Smashbox but in drugstore/more affordable form. The green eliminates redness and the formula works to provide a matte finish.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer ($37.00 // Sephora). SO MANY to choose from. Quite literally a primer for everyone. I’ve been using this and noticed if you look into a magnifying mirror as you apply you can watch your pores disappear instantly. It’s freaky yet wonderful all at the same time. This primer also evens out my skin tone which make my makeup look better overall.

PÜR Cosmetics Correcting Primer Hydrate & Balance ($12.99 // ULTA Beauty). Breakout prone? Rejoice! This primer is not only mattifying but contains s clarifying blend of salicylic acid, calming lavender extract and Ceretin Complex in a lavender hue to hide the look of blemishes.

Physicians Formula Super CC Color-Correction + Care All-Over Blur Primer Stick SPF 30 ($12.99 // ULTA Beauty). This just looks REALLY cool. It features a “high-tech formula which instantly blurs imperfections, fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, discoloration and signs of fatigue while evening out skin tone”. It’s basically more than a 2-in-1 in that it’s every.damn.thing.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid ($28.00 // Sephora). Available in five shades you can pick your poison or buy them all to target color correct your face. Paint it all over and get your skin primed for concealer and foundation. A full review on this is coming up next week!

L’Oréal Studio Secrets Professional Color Correcting Primer ($12.99 // ULTA Beauty). There are three of these correctors to combat your skin needs including one for redness, and two others to combat dull skin (two shades, depending on skin tone).

Marc Jacobs Beauty Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector ($42.00 // Sephora). Three marbleized mixes combat dullness, redness and/or hyper-pigmentation/dark circles. (Can you tell these stick versions with the fun patterns get me every time?!)

MAC ‘Prep + Prime CC’ Colour Correcting Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($31.00 // Nordstrom). There are four of these shades set to Neutralize (soft yellow that neutralizes red skin); Illuminate (pastel lavender that brightens sallow skin); Adjust (muted peach that brings warmth to dull skin); and Recharge (deep peach that corrects blue and purple shadows).

The Top 10 Products to Set Your Face for Oily Skin

Affiliate Links

You just spend time on applying your makeup. Hours, even (doesn’t it seem that way sometimes?!). It’s not crazy to want that work of art to stay in place all day… or at least for as long as possible. For those of us with oily skin the struggle is real. A loose powder is going to keep you more matte. A pressed setting powder is okay, particularly if you need to keep it in your purse, but it’s not going to work as well as loose.

Below you’ll find my list of the Top 10 Products to Set Your Face with for oily skin. These are the ones I’ve found that help the best at keeping me matte and set.

  1. Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder($38.00 // Nordstrom). ALL the YouTubers that have any sort of experience with oily skin have been going on about this being the powder to suck up all that oil and mattify your face as well as set it all the live long day. I fought buying it because I didn’t think it would work better than the rest… but you know what? It does. I’ve been using this non-stop since I bought it to set and bake. It’s kept my makeup from creasing all day and while it doesn’t keep me matte for the day it does help me stay matte longer.
  2. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder($24.00 // ULTA Beauty). This is the only one I’ve found to be on the same level as the Laura Mercier, and it’ll be the one I repurchase because it’s $14.00 cheaper. Major bonus it feels amazing when you apply it to your face.
  3. Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder($9.99 // ULTA Beauty). A good, budget friendly loose powder option. It works just as well as it’s high-end counterparts at setting makeup and keeping oil at bay.
  4. NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder($37.00 // Sephora). This was the first setting powder I found to actually work well for my oily skin. Before I picked up the Laura Mercier I used to alternate with this and the Make Up For Ever (below).
  5. Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder($35.00 // Sephora). This is one that I alternated with the NARS before I picked up the LM. It really does a fabulous job at setting, hiding, perfecting… all the things!
  6. Tarte Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder($33.00 // Sephora). I got a sample of this in one of their kits and use it when I travel! It does a great job at mattifying and setting no matter what the weather.
  7. PIXI Quick Fix Powder($20.00 // Target). I love this one because it’s perfect to keep in your makeup bag! It’s got a little sponge on the top to keep you matte and oil free all day.
  8. ELF Translucent High Definition Powder($6.00 // Target). On a super budget? There’s a matte setting powder for that. At $6.00 there’s no excuse for not setting your makeup or keeping your oil down!
  9. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray($30.00 // Sephora). This is a spray I’ve used on myself as well as on brides or others that I’ve done makeup for. It seems to work the best for all skin types across the board at holding makeup in place. After you spray be sure not to scrunch up your face or move it around at all until it dries… you don’t want lines to form! There is also one called the De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray that I’m itching to try!
  10. NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray($7.99 // ULTA Beauty). The most budget-friendly of all of the makeup setting sprays that actually work! This works as well as the Urban Decay and sometimes at ULTA you can snag them at buy one get one half off!

If you’re oily I recommend always using a loose powder. There are mini sizes available for travel if you’re in a pinch so make sure you check the “impulse” areas of your local Sephora and ULTA Beauty.

How to Try New Things // Holiday Beauty Edition

Sponsored Post

The holiday season is your perfect opportunity to try out new things. Particularly festive things… for the holidays and New Years you basically can’t over-do it. I mean… you can… but if you’re someone who doesn’t generally go flashy to those of us that flash on the regular you’ll still be totally normal 😉 Some of the ways you can step out of your comfort zone and right into Holiday Party Ready are by experimenting with makeup colors, scents… even your tan.

The Red Lip. You know you want to. How many times a year can you justify rocking a sultry red pout? Okay a red lip could work for basically any holiday or occasion or walk to the bus stop (wait… or is that in my world?!)… but Holiday always makes me really think “red”. LAQA&CO has a light-weight, matte line of lip and cheek pencils called Cheeky Lip. Who has time to coordinate?! Not me… this pencil does it all for your lips and cheeks so you look that much more put together. Good choices for a holiday party are Mixtape (the red!) and Humble Brag (a bright pink to keep on hand just in case you chicken out on the red *wink* but still want something vibrant). If you aren’t ready for full on matte pick up Golly Gee Whiz Lip Lube which is a sheerer, glossy red. Not as in your face, but still allowing you to work it for the event.

TIP: For a smooth application and wear make sure you gently exfoliate your lips before applying any red (or deep, for that matter) lip color.

That HD Face. Maybe you’re a fan of a light coverage, but party time means you can go full coverage types of flawless. As I’m sure you all know I’m a major fan of the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. I require a decent amount of coverage on more than just special occasions, so I actually reach for this at least 4 times a week. It hides all my flaws and has great staying power. Looking fabulous in party photos is a must.

TIP: It’s better if you just watch the experts 😉 Click the video below to get applications tips based on your skin type!

A New Fragrance. It’s so easy to get in a fragrance rut. Use holiday as your once-a-year-must-try-a-new-scent. Jessica Simpson TEN is the three “F’s” – fruity, floral and flirty! TEN is part of a limited edition tenth anniversary capsule collection and probably has the prettiest bottle design that I’ve seen all year. It’s so feminine yet bohemian… it really matches the scent – which is something I never thought I’d be able to say about a fragrance.

Special Offer: Receive a complimentary signature tote bag with the purchase of any large spray (Large Spray Sizes Priced from $59.00-$67.00) from the Jessica Simpson fragrance collection.

Bronze Your Stuff. And by that I mean with self-tanner. I always feel so much more confident and beautiful when my skin has a tan to it. It’s like it glows. And also a tan always makes you look and feel thinner (party time confidence bonus!). Tanning itself is dangerous, so I don’t do it. Using the best self-tanner is the way to go. Way Too Tan is a Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone of the luxurious kind. It offers multiple natural tanning enhancers for a fast, gorgeous and deep dark tan. As a bonus for you skincare lovers out there this product also has anti-aging organic antioxidants and exceptionally high concentrations of Sodium Hyaluronate to boosts moisture and fight against aging by helping maintain skin elasticity and firmness.

TIP: Make sure you exfoliate your skin before applying any kind of self-tanner for smooth skin and an even application.

What new-to-you flashy beauty trend are you looking to try out this holiday?

Top 10 Foundations for Oily Skin

Affiliate Links

My skin drips with the oil. Both a blessing and a curse. Over the years I’ve tried many (and by many I mean manyyyyyy) foundations. None keep me matte all day long (even though some say they will) but they do last for several hours and some are definitely way better than others. For this weeks Top 10 Tuesday I’m excited to share with you the Top 10 Foundations for Oily Skin!

  1. IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation($35.00 // ULTA Beauty). Far and away one of my favorites. There’s enough coverage so that I can just dust the powder on before I run out the door. You don’t need to spend 5 minutes on your face when it only takes 5 seconds 😉
  2. Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation($43.00 // Sephora). I reach for this quite a bit, even on days when I don’t need to be HD ready 😉 It provides excellent coverage which is something I’ve desperately needed lately!
  3. Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup($40.00 // Sephora). This is fabulous for medium to full coverage. It feels like but still hides everything I don’t want people to notice.
  4. Physician’s Formula Argan Wear Glow-Renewing BB Cream($13.19 // Target). I never would have thought Argan Oil would be great for my oily face but Physician’s Formula has proved me wrong. This is one I use when I want a bit more of a dewy finish. Yes, us oily people can glow also. It’s not always matte 😉
  5. PUR Cosmetics 4-in-1 Liquid Veil Spray Foundation($39.00 // ULTA Beauty). This is best used sprayed directly to a beautyblender and patted in. Coverage is buildable up to full. I always reach for this when I want to look particularly flawless or I have any extra redness.
  6. Lancome Dual Finish Versatile Powder Makeup($38.50 // Nordstrom). My HG from WAY back. Like high school way back! I’ve used this for literally half my life. That’s saying a lot. Fabulous coverage for a powder foundation, even on it’s own!
  7. Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Foundation ($8.29 // Target). When I don’t want glowy this is the liquid drugstore foundation I swear by. It’s medium to full coverage and feels amazing. Making me feel and look amazing!
  8. MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation($33.00 // Nordstrom). I wore this in the Summer time when I needed my face to remain in place for an extra long time. My skin is so oily it doesn’t stay on all day, but it held up really well, even in the 112 degree Las Vegas heat!
  9. NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation($48.00 // Sephora). This is a love/hate for people, but if you’re oily and apply with a beautyblender, it’ll be a love. Trust.
  10. Milani Even-Touch Powder Foundation($8.99 // CVS). This is the closest drugstore equivalent I’ve found to the IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation. It doesn’t last quite as long but the coverage is good – basically it gets the job done well and the price is fabulous!

I’m also currently testing the new Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Mattifying Oil Free($55.00 // Sephora). So far I’ve only applied it one time and with a beautyblender. It was incredibly sheer and I needed to layer it on 5 times (!!!!!) to get the coverage I wanted. I’m going to continue to test it out this week to see what the best application method is. It seems to keep my oil at a minimum, which I like, so I want to give it several run-throughs before making my final review!

What is your favorite foundation? Let me know in the comments and also share what kind of skin you have, just in case someone with dry skin is on the hunt 😉 Click the icons below to see more blogger faves!

The Best Beauty Gift Sets & Palettes of the Sephora VIB Sale

Affiliate Links

It’s the most wonderful time of the beauty year!!! Holiday Gift Sets! For this week the bloggers of Makeup Wars are sharing their faves. I love when we do this post because it works as my wishlist for family… it’s so much easier to send them to a website than sit there and try to remember what I liked. PLUS the Sephora VIB sale is going on so hopefully this list will you narrow down your list… or grow it… whatever 😉

Breakups To Makeup Holiday Bag($29.00 // Sephora). Okay… not a gift set. But even though I need more makeup bags like a hole in the head I’m obsessed with all the ones from Breakups to Makeup. The holiday bags are limited edition and yes, I need them both.

Kat Von D Lolita Lip Duo($19.50 // Sephora). It’s awesome Lolita that everyone loves and also Lolita II! I’ve heard great things about this formula and I’ve been dying to try it. These shades are perfect for the Fall/Winter season so the duo is a must-have for me!

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector® Opal Glow On The Go($20.00 // Sephora). Since I got Champagne Glow I’ve wanted all things BECCA. I also already bought the Pressed Champagne Glow Palette because not only is that shade in there but so are two more gorgeous shades! Opal Glow On The Go would give me a chance to try out another shade as well as the liquid form of the highlighters. I also want the Ombre Rouge Eye Palette. All the things, k?

Lancôme Noel Eye Set ($38.00 // Sephora). This is a great set to try out some of the best products from Lancôme. It comes with the best selling mascaras and eye-makeup remover and the new Drama Liqui-pencil (reviewed here) which do.not.budge.

Too Faced Melted Kisses & Sweet Cheeks($36.00 // Sephora). This set is just adorable. Beyond it’s cuteness the product quality of the full sized versions are amazing (all the blushes are swatched and reviewed here).

tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case ($59.00 // Sephora). I actually already bought this… mostly for the sequin case… but I had to share with you. Tarte has excellent quality makeup products and in this case you’re getting 30 eye shadows, 3 cheek products, a double-ended shadow brush and mascara all in that beautiful case. It works out to be less than $2 per product. A steal!

Benefit Real Cheeky Party Holiday Blush Palette($42.00 // Sephora). Packaging wise Benefit hands-down wins Holiday every single year. One of my favorites every time is the blush palette. This year it comes with 5 face products (including my fave Rockateur – reviewed here), Watt’s Up! and They’re Real! Mascara and Liner.

Urban Decay Vice4($60.00 // Sephora). Every year I say the packaging for Vice is my favorite but this year is beyond. They’ll never top the gorgeous holo shattered mirror effect. In Vice4 you’re getting 20 new eyeshadow shades and a double-ended brush as well as a coordinating bag to store it in.

Make Up For Ever 15 Artist Shadow Palette($59.00 // Sephora). These artist shadows are amazing and this palette gives a nice color assortment for you to play around with. There’s also a step-by-step guide included just in case you don’t know where to start.

bling.ring kit by beautyblender($29.00 // Sephora). Who doesn’t want something bejeweled to set their beautyblender on? It certainly looks prettier than just laying it over the case to dry. Definitely prettier on the vanity and a nice stocking stuffer size!

Elsa and Anna Compact Mirror($32.00 // Sephora). I can’t even tell you how obsessed I am with these Disney mirrors that Sephora puts out. Up until the huge release from this year I had them all (see here). However I truly can’t justify buying all of the new ones. If I had to pick one it’d be this Frozen mirror. I think it’s gorgeous and Frozen is one of my favorite Disney movies!

Jem and the Holograms Collection($16.00-$36.00 // Sephora). I’m arguably the biggest Jem fan in the world. Ask my mom. Anyway I need all of these things. IDK when or where I’ll wear so much hot pink but IDGAF. Get in my life.

Top 10 Waterproof Makeup Products

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Ahhhh water… so refreshing, so necessary… so easily the worst enemy of your FOTD. In this edition of Top 10 Tuesday I’m sharing my favorite waterproof makeup products – the stuff I choose when I need my FOTD to wear through it all – rain, sleet, snow, a good cry fest, chick flicks… what have you.

  1. Pür Minerals Double Ego Dual Ended Eye Liner*($21.00 // ULTA Beauty). This liner doesn’t move. It’s really hard to get off, actually, and leaves a bit of staining behind so it’ll take two attempts at removal to get it gone. Maybe that’s a negative for you… but when I need something to stay on IDGAF what needs to happen as long as it works (full review here).
  2. Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner ($24.00 // Sephora). In keeping with liner this one from Benefit has a bit of a bad rap, but it doesn’t come off. Benefit actually made their own remover to go with it but it’s really not necessary and your usual remover will get the job done. This liner is fantastic (and I’m so excited they’re about to launch new colors!) and if you’re used to working with liner that isn’t in pencil form you’ll love it too (full review here).
  3. Urban Decay Perversion Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner Gel ($22.00 // Sephora). This liner is smooth and easy to apply. It wears like iron so you won’t have to worry about it coming off, migrating or fading until you’re ready to remove it (full review here).
  4. IT Cosmetics Build-A-Brow Waterproof 5-In-1 Micro-Fiber Crème Stain* ($24.00 // ULTA Beauty). There are a lot of cream liners out there for brows that are long-wearing or waterproof etc… the one that stands above them all is this one from IT Cosmetics. Applying a product like this takes some getting used to since you need very, very little to apply with, but once you do it’s magic (full review here).
  5. MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot* ($21.00 // Nordstrom). Note this is for the MAC PRO LONGWEAR Paint Pot. The original Paint Pots don’t stay for squat on me without a secondary primer. The Pro Longwear last forever without allowing your eye look to crease or fade (full review here).
  6. Maybelline Color Tattoo ($6.99 // ULTA Beauty). Basically my drugstore answer to the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot. I love them just as much and there are similar colors available. My favorite shades are the Color Tattoo Leather (full review here).
  7. Maybelline Full & Soft Thick & Healthy Waterproof Mascara ($7.99 // ULTA Beauty). I’m not normally a waterproof mascara fan, but if I have to wear one this is on the one I pick without hesitation. It looks good, wears good and gives nice volume.
  8. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder ($7.99 // ULTA Beauty). This is a great drugstore powder to provide shine control and give off a matte finish. It says 12hrs wear but I’m a shiny gal so I usually have to touch up here and there – I haven’t met a powder that I didn’t have to do that with. This isn’t technically “waterproof” but it is long-wearing.
  9. Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge ($24.00 // Sephora). Aqua Rouge were the first lip products I ever tried that stayed all day long without fail. To this day they’re still my faves for when I need a pigmented, long-wearing, never leave my mouth color (full review here).
  10. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Lip Stain & Shine ($22.00 // Sephora). In particular the shade Getaway Red. I loveeeee how this looks on and the stain side lasts well with only the gloss side needing a touch-up. The other shades I’ve tried don’t seem to last as long, stain wise, but they’re still very pretty. There is a bit of bleeding on the deep shades so be sure to add a liner like Urban Decay Ozone to the outer lip line before you apply the stain.

Valentine’s Day Red Lips & Pretty Gifts // Gift Guide

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. But you knew that. Chances are your plans this weekend are to go see 50 Shades of Grey this evening with your girlfriends and drink pitchers of Long Island Iced Teas (which may or may not have been an option for me) and then tomorrow spend the day getting ready for the date night to end all date nights. Sunday equals recovery day. All weekend the major things on a gals mind are red lips and pretty gifts. Here are some of my current faves of both.

My friend’s little girl, who just turned 6, was getting ready for her Valentine’s Day party at school and asked her mom if she could wear red lipstick. “Why?” her mom asked. “Because you wear red lipstick on Valentine’s Day. Every one knows that”. I mean… truth. For V-day I absolutely auto-reach for red. Day-to-day I wear a nude or pinky-nude lip… sometimes just a lip balm. But on Valentine’s Day, or during a Valentine’s Day activity (such as a party) I reach for the red. In honor of this Hallmark Holiday here are some excellent red or reddish choices that you can buy to wear this Valentine’s Day (or any date night, really!).

(L-R: Lather Cinnabar Silk*, Milani 66 Matte Passion*, NARS Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, Dior 758 Lys Rouge Rouge Dior Balm, NARS Carmen Audacious Lipstick*, Jordana Matte Style*, Cle de Peau 311 Extra Rich Velvet Lipstick, Make Up For Ever 8 Iconic Rouge Aqua Rouge Lip Color, Too Faced Melted Ruby and Fresh Sugar Cherry*.

In addition to red lips there is also minor major pampering involved in V-day. You want to look, feel and smell the prettiest. (Note: even if you’re not going anywhere do this anyway, because every one deserves all the pampering they desire!). And, you know, buy all the things because instant gratification is awesome too.

Clinique is synonymous with Happy. Everyone knows about Happy. But have you checked out Happy Heart? Happy Heart Perfume Spray*($38.00 // Clinique) is like a warmer, softer and more floral version of Happy and I’m seriously in lust with it. It may or may not have to be my actual Valentine. $10.00 of the purchase price goes towards the Happy Hearts Fund. In addition to the perfume there is a Happy Hearts Chubby Stick in Plumped Up Pink* ($17.00 // Clinique) available.. you know I love me some Chubby Sticks. This particular one also benefits the Happy Hearts Fund so $3.00 of each one sold will be donated to the organization.

Sherrieblossom ICEbOX*. The end all be all of ALL of the makeup organizers and storage out there. It’s pricey but then you get what you pay for. If you’re into luxe and quality, this is the one you want your makeup to live in. I reviewed the ICEbOX Wide here but I have my eye on the Little London next!

OPI Infinite Shine Nail Polish* ($12.50 each // Ulta). You need to have your nails looking fresh on Valentine’s Day. While the OPI Infinite Shine system didn’t last any longer on me than their usual polishes but the shine could not be beat throughout the entire wear test (which I showed on my Instagram account). My nails were just as shiny on Day 1 as they were on Day 5. I’ll have swatches and a better review up next week.

Nail Butter*($24.00 // NailButter.com). If you’re going to be flashing the Infinite Shine you better make sure your cuticles aren’t all raggedy. Nail Butter is fantastic for making your cuticles look renewed without worrying about greasy hands or gooping on too much product. Keep using and you’ll have the healthiest looking hands out of allll your peoples. Unless they use it too in which case at least you’ll match. It’s also great for those awful dry areas on your elbows, toes, feet… just bathe yourself in it.

Peter Lamas has two products currently out that you should consider putting into your routine. The ExfoliatingPumpkin Facial Scrub*($19.36 // Amazon) and the Nourishing Buriti Oil Moisturizer*($19.00 // Amazon). I’m not super crazy about the scent of the moisturizer but it feels SO GOOD. The “oil” aspect threw me off because I expected greasy and it definitely was not. This is meant for the face and neck but since I’m so prone to break outs I’ve been using it on my hands. The scrub smells amazing and isn’t too abrasive. I have sensitive skin so it’s something I could only use once a week or so, but it does a great job at polishing my skin and making it glow.

ALEX AND ANI got with The Child Mind Institute and Charity by Design to launch the Little Brown Bear charm ($28.00 // Bloomingdale’s) which will directly benefit the Child Mind Institute, the only independent nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to transforming mental health care for children. 20% of bangle sales will go to the Child Mind Institute. The charm, with its teddy bear image, is a reminder of the carefree days of childhood.

Lather has 100% All-Natural Lip Balms* now available three tinted versions ($7.50 each // Lather)! These feel, smell and taste soooo good. Super nourishing it’s seriously like a treat every single time I use one. Today is the last day to enter their giveaway on Instagram so run!

I feel like this listing also serves as a gift guide of sorts. Personally, I’d flip out in happiness to get a goodie bag with all or even some of these things inside. Add in some Godiva and I’m yours.
