Top 10 Luxury Highlight & Contour Beauty Products

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Highlight and contouring are all the rage (thanks, Kim Kardashian) so for Top 10 Tuesday your fave beauty bloggers have come together to share some of our faves!

Chanel MÉDITERRANÉE LUMIERE D’ETE Illuminating Powder ($65.00 // Nordstrom). Lumiere d’Ete is limited edition but a brand new release so you can still get your hands on it! This subtle bronzer is more than just a pretty face – it packs the perfect shade for us pale gals to add up just a bit of color in a buildable way. It’s not intensely shimmery so it doesn’t accentuate pores, but I wouldn’t call it a matte either. It looks a lot more yellow sheered out on my arm than it did when I wore it, but it’s definitely more warm toned than cool. It was hard to dig into the product because I did not want to mess up that gorgeous rose design… but, and don’t boo me, it was worth it! Get your hands on this one fast!

* IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face ($38.00 // ULTA Beauty). It’s all the colors you need to perfectly contour your face and a friends all at the same time. There are 6 shades within this palette so it’s also great to keep in a makeup kit because you’ll find something to work with any skin tone. There’s also an included face sculpting chart if you need a bit of help figuring out the best placement for the shades – there is obviously more than one face shape out there, but you’ll get the general idea and with a bit of practice be a pro in no time!

* Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour($21.00 // Sephora)Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight ($21.00 // Sephora). It seems there’s a Chubby Stick for anything now and as a 90’s girl that was always in lust with the original Chubby Sticks I’m totally okay with that. The latest duo are a highlight and a contour stick (sold separately) that make it easy to mark up your face while the silky cream formula makes it easy to blend out. I personally love the size of these ones because my face is round and I’ve got a lot more area to mark up than you slimmies out there 😉

NARS Contour Blush ($42.00 // Sephora). One of my favorite highlight/contour products from NARS is the Contour Blush (reviewed here). This matte duo is perfect for subtle, easy sculpting and is available in three shades. If you like a bit more shimmer the new Dual Intensity Blush in Craving($45.00 // Sephora) is a fabulous pick!

Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer($24.00 // Sephora). For those that find the size of something like the Clinique Chubby Stick to be too big for their face a great pick would be The Sculptor from Tarte (reviewed here). It’s still bigger than the size of a crayon but there is less of an area of exposed product. If you have a slim/long face, you may find that this one is easier for you to manipulate to the spaces you need it.

ColourPopAphrodisiac Blush($8.00 // ColourPop). Okay… so this isn’t luxury but I saw it sitting there and I had to make room for it in this round-up. It’s that amazing. The pigment is crazy intense but the formula is so smooth it makes it easy to work with and blend out. This will last all day long!

Charlotte Tilbury ‘Filmstar Bronze & Glow’ Face Sculpt & Highlight ($68.00 // Nordstrom). In case you’re new I mention this one constantly and it’s the duo I reach for the most (reviewed here). I call it my no brainer contour and highlight. One hit application on both sides and I’m out the door. It never looks overdone and it’ll last all day. Plus… the packaging is REALLY pretty 😉

Benefit Dallas($28.00 // Sephora). Dallas is allllll the rage in terms of bronzing and has been for awhile. I was always intimidated by it because it looked so dark. Once I finally bit the bullet and gave it a try I could never go back. The shade is beautiful for a bronzer but I even like to wear it alone as a blush (reviewed here). For highlighting I love to use Benefit Watt’s Up($30.00 // Sephora) also. I get samples all of the time when I purchase things and the little size is great to get into the arch of the brow, cupids bow, etc. Note – the full size isn’t tiny for the areas I mentioned, but it does have a little spongey deal on the other side for easier application and blending.

BECCA Shadow & Light Bronze/ Contour Perfector™($40.00 // Sephora). When this duo was new in store I had to have it the moment I saw it. It just looked so pretty. The contrasting bronze shades give the perfect contour. I lean more towards the light side in the Winter season but when my face gets a little color I add in the darker side.

MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish($32.00 // Nordstrom). Okay who doesn’t love Lightscapade (reviewed here)? It looks like it would be a shimmer-bomb but when I wear it on my face it never turns up like that. If you want to look fantastical and glowy at all times, Lightscapade is where it’s at.

Top 10 Spring Break Beauty Essentials

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Spring Break. Some good times are had on Spring Break. In college I went to Cancun with my sorority sisters and while we had some interesting adventures (like being on MTV!) we definitely over-packed our beauty items. In an effort to help you pack a bit lighter I’ve put together a list of ten essentials that every Spring Break-er needs to have in their bags.

Eyeshadows. A palette that will easily take you from day to night is best and will definitely save space because it’s the only one you’ll need to bring. One of my faves is the NYX Makeup Suede Color Palette($11.99 // ULTA Beauty). It’s got the easy, warm shimmery hues for day but also has a variety of deeper jewel-toned shades so you can mix it up at night.

Bronzer. Even if you slather yourself in SPF a bit of color is likely going to happen. Enhance it with a beautiful bronzer that adds glow like the IT Cosmetics CC+ Radiance Ombre Bronzer($34.00 // ULTA Beauty). Since it’s got several shades happening you can make it as deep or light as you need.

Blush. You’ll need the pigment, you’ll need the staying power. ColourPop Super Shock Cheek($8.00 // ColourPop) is where it’s at. I have 5 of the shades (shown here) and out of those Holiday would be my pick to take in my bag.

Mascara. I don’t know about you, but I loathe waterproof mascara. It doesn’t do for me what regular mascara does. For Spring Break, I’d totally splurge on getting eyelash extensions for beach/pool time. For the extra evening oomph add a coat of either Milani Total Lash Cover ($5.49 // CVS) or Benefit Roller Lash($24.00 // Sephora).

Brows. I’m seriously lacking in the brow department, so I could never not take brow products on Spring Break. My favorite is the IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Brow Power Skinny Pencil aka YBBB($24.00 // Ulta) . For something even more ridiculously budge proof try the IT Cosmetics Build-a-Brow ($24.00 // Ulta). My top brow products are listed here.

Lip Balm. You really don’t need to go heavy on the lips while on Spring Break. For the most part your at the beach and in the evening it’s not like you’re going anywhere fancy. Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm($8.00 // Target) gives the right amount of color, awesome moisture and is easy to reapply.

Ridiculously Bright Nail Polish. And by bright I mean NEON. Luckily with Summer just around the corner there are options. One of my favorite bright collections I have here now is the Electric Nights Collection from China Glaze($7.50 // ULTA Beauty) – stay tuned for full collection swatches.

Beach Spray. Matted and weird, straight out of the pool should never be a thing. No one has the pretty hair we see when movie stars get out of the pool. Get at your hair with a beachy wave spray. My faves are Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray($27.00 // Sephora) and Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray($8.99 // ULTA Beauty).

Makeup Wipes. Vacation is time for lazy.. and also when you get back from all of your shenanigans you’ll still want to remove that makeup. Keep makeup wipes on hand.. because – lazy girls best friend. One of my current favorites are the Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Wipes($6.99 // ULTA Beauty) because they’re gentle but remove everything. They even work at removing my eye makeup without leaving behind that gross film on my contacts. Oh, and soy extract for moisture. Winning. All the things.

It should go without saying that you DO need some items with SPF, particularly for day. My faves for this are Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen($10.99 // ULTA Beauty) which comes in SPF 30-70 and is sweat-proof and water-resistant for up to 80 minutes; and Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm($7.50 // Sephora). I have these in every room in the house, every pocket, every car… love.

Top 11 Blushes for Spring 2015

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

For this weeks Top 10 Tuesday blushes are the focus. Cheek flushing is important for spring. The right amount of shimmer gives that glowy (not sweaty) look when the sun hits your cheeks just right. The right cream will last all day, even though the April showers. Below are, IMO, the best of the best for this season and are still currently available for purchase as of this blog post! (Your eyes are not deceiving you. There are in fact 11 blushes in the line-up below. The fact that I got that close to 10 is a major win for me).

ColourPop Super Shock Cheek($8.00 // ColourPop). Of course I had to mention this first. The release of the ColorPop blushes broke the internet so hard that Kim Kardashian’s butt got jealous and fell off (not really but you get it). It was a challenge to not order every single one but the five that came home with me are swatched below – Holiday, Fox, Between the Sheets, Birthday Suit and Prenup. Not only are these blushes affordable but you won’t find any better in terms of pigment, blend-ability and wear. Tip: apply sparingly by dabbing on with fingers and blending out. Do the dab and blend repeat until you’re satisfied with the color.

Benefit Majorette($28.00 // Sephora). I’m going to go ahead and admit that I picked this one up because I was a majorette. And also I love the vintage packaging. Imagine my utter glee when this blush became a staple! I love to apply this lightly on my cheeks and layer Rockateur on top.

PUR Minerals Chateau Cheeks Cream Blush*($18.00 // ULTA). Super smooth and dewy, natural and glowy… isn’t this what we’re all looking for this Spring? Bonus: blends easier than anything ever and lasts all day! Any cream based mineral product that lasts on me is winner winner. The two shades shown below are Flirt and Coy.

Clinique Sculptionary Cheek Contouring Palette*($32.00 // Nordstrom). Uber soft and blendable you can swirl these together or wear the shades separately for contour, highlight and cheek color. Four palettes are available and I have three swatched below for you in 01 Defining Nectars, 03 Defining Roses and 04 Defining Nudes.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Radiance Ombre Blush($24.00 // IT Cosmetics). The shade is called Je Ne Sais Quoi and it’s a lovely three tone ombre ranging from dark-to-medium-to-light pink. It’s fantastic because you can apply with ease and even though the pigment is good it never seems to look over-done. See it here.

Milani Rose Powder Blush($7.99 // CVS). Forget the fact that the design is completely beautiful. These blushes (yes, every single one ever released) are incredibly pigmented and beautiful on the skin. I have four and I need more. See it here.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush($35.00 // Sephora). ALL of these were featured as my favorite blushes from Spring and Summer last year for Makeup Wars so how could I not talk about them here for Top 10 Tuesday? The Ambient Lighting Blushes give off a radiant glow, each with that perfect tint. If you’ve ever had a rough night and need your face to perk up any of these will do it. See it here.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blush($40.00 // Nordstrom). The only shade I have is in First Love and I’m truly DYING to get more. I always put this blush in as many round-ups as I can. I love how soft it is and how beautiful it looks on. This particular shade goes with everything so I reach for it constantly. They’re on the pricey side, but if you get the chance to splurge you absolutely need to do it on one of these. See it here.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush($26.00 // Sephora). ALL of the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes are fantastic. Celebrated (shown) is the latest to launch with their Spring collection but I haven’t met one I didn’t like. No powder blush will last as long and still keep the same color like these ones do. See it here.

Gucci Sheer Blushing Powder($49.00 // Neiman Marcus). The name is so misleading because there is nothing sheer or nude about this particular shade – Nude Freesia. It’s a pigmented mauve-rose with a slight glow that appears when you blend it out. It ends up looking like a natural, all-day flush.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed($32.00 // Sephora). This is my 11th and had to mention honorable mention addition. The shade shown is Streak which is a warm trio of a matte bronzer, a shimmery peach highlighter and a bright coral blush. Awesome pigment and perfect for travel. I had to use this sparingly because I’m on the fair side and I feel like this is going to be a total go-to when tanning begins (PSA use SPF).

ColourPop Cosmetics Haul // Megan Naik, Frida, Truth, Meow Swatches + Review

If you follow me on Instagram you knew this post was coming today! My first ColourPop Cosmetics haul! I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to haul from this brand. The products have been taking beauty lovers by storm in terms of quality and price. Each piece is only FIVE DOLLARS (USD) and the ease of use and pigmentation is above par.

The Megan Naik collab quad ($20.00 // ColourPop) was the first thing I put in my cart. All of the shades are some of my faves color-wise – Onai(creamy white with blue violet opalescent duo chrome in a satin finish), Lectra(deepened burgundy with pink violet glitter in a metallic finish), Amira (antique gilded gold with multi-coloured and multi-dimensional glitter in a metallic finish) and Farah(deep brown in a matte finish).

The ColourPop Super Shock Shadows are cool to the touch and feel like they’re more of a cream. They’ll apply damp-ish but set to a powder. Regardless of the slight wetness I had no issues with applying the shades evenly or blending. These shadows are so saturated and vivid… plus they last all day over primer… I just can’t say enough good things.

I picked up two more Super Shock Shadows in Meow(light gunmetal doused with tons of pink, violet and silver glitter, leaving a super sparkly metallic finish) and Truth(neutral light beige eyeshadow with a warm satin finish).

Meow($5.00 // ColourPop) was a must have because it’s what they call a “Tie Dye” and when blended the shade is the most beautiful silvered lilac. I bought Truth($5.00 // ColourPop) because I’ve got a major thing for a beige shadow with a satin finish. I use one in almost all of my looks (if one isn’t included in a set or collection I usually reach for MAC Grain).

Because every one told me I’d especially be into the ColourPop Lippie Stix I put Frida(warm mid tone nude pink with a satin finish) in my cart before I checked out. I picked Frida($5.00 // ColourPop) because not only is it a shade that I would usually gravitate towards but it’s also a collab with Dani from Coffee Break With Dani on YouTube. She has wonderful, positive energy and is extremely honest in her reviews. You know that if she says it’s awesome, it’s awesome. This looked fabulous on her and on everyone else that I saw reviewing it… so.. easy choice. I’m in love. The color is exactly what I’ve always been looking for but have never found. It’s pink but there’s that glimmer of peach that doesn’t quite show but makes it perfect for my skin tone (and plenty of others).

The formula on this is opaque in one swipe and feels amazing. It applies evenly and lasts longer than a usual satin lipstick would, however it will mostly come off when you eat and drink. As a surprise I also found that ColourPop had sent along a Lippie Primer ($5.00 // ColourPop) to go along with Frida. It really allowed the Lippie Stix to apply that much more smoothly and the website states that it “contains itty bitty spherical beads that fill in fine lines making lips instantly smooth and plump! It also contains mango, avocado and shea butter for moisture and Vitamin E, which soothes your lips“. I can’t feel the beads (which I find to be a positive) and I love that this is just enough of a smoother so that it doesn’t feel goopy and won’t effect the consistency of the actual Lippie Stix when you apply.

All of the shades are swatched below dry with no primer. This photo was taken with flash but I posted one on my Instagram that was taken under a daylight lamp with no flash.

In the look below I’m wearing Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base. ColourPop Lectra is all over the lid, Farah in the crease with a bit of Amira over the top part and blended up. Onai is at the inner corners and above Amira to blend. Truth was used to highlight and a bit of Lectra was smudged under the lower lash line. The top liner is MAC Orpheus Power Kohl and the bottom is MAC Powersurge Eye Kohl. The mascara is Tarte Lights Camera Lashes. I’m also wearing the ColourPop Lippie Primer and Frida Lippie Stix.

If you’re interested in what I wear in terms of the other makeup it’s the products from IT Cosmetics mentioned here (but in the pic below I’m wearing the shade Light because the Medium in that post was much too dark for me). The blush is Tarte Celebrated along with Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow. Brows are IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Brow Power Skinny Pencil and Anastasia Clear Brow Gel.

As I’m writing this I couldn’t take it anymore and placed another order. It’s hard to resist when you get $5 off for signing up for the newsletter 😉 . Can’t waste a coupon! (I know you guys will ask so my haul – Lippie Stix in Lucy, Skimpy and Bichette as well as the Bichette pencil. Shadows in Fairfax, Effect, To-a-T, Cop a Feel and Girl Crush).

Let me know in the comments what you want to haul from ColourPop! PS: THE BLUSHES ARE COMING SOON AND I CAN’T WAIT!
