Beat the Heat // Summer Beauty Survival

*This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of Single Edition Media.

This is about the point during the Summer where I’m over it. Over the heat, over the bugs, over the sweat… In all fairness it hasn’t been that harsh of a Summer, but the last few weeks have been brutal and I’m ready to move on to Fall, which happens to be my favorite season. My plans of surviving the rest of Summer include many a beauty product so in this post I’ll be sharing a few of them with you, explaining why they’ll work and sharing a few deals!

Butter™ London Lost In Leisure Lacquer Set // NEW POLISHES! YES. New nail polishes in my collection, regardless if I need them or not, always make me happy. This limited edition set from Butter London contains four nail lacquers as well as a guide to get the “Lost in Leisure Nail Art Look”. The four shades included are Rock Candy, Marmalade Skies, Fit and Skive.

Tempting by Sofia Vergara // This fragrance basically personifies sexy. It’s by Sofia Vergara, after all. When I first sprayed it I thought it was Summery candy sweet, but as it dried down a more sophisticated floral scent appeared. It’s the type of fragrance that’s perfect for Summer but can totally carry you into Fall. Pick the 1 oz. fragrance available exclusively at Perfumania online and in stores. The 3.4 oz. (as well as the 1 oz.) will hit major retailers nationwide in September.

LaCroix Cúrate Melón Pomelo // I probably got a little too excited when I saw this fanciness. Sure, everyone knows to drink water year round, but especially in the Summer where it’s way too easy to get dehydrated. When I want something a little more special, I like a bit of flavor – which is what makes the LaCroix Cúrate Melón Pomelo so perfect! It’s sparkling, 100% natural and my mom will be happy to hear a lot better to be drinking than my usual diet cola. 😉

Nad’s Exfoliating Body Wax Strips // Anyone that’s been around awhile knows that waxing is my preferred method of hair removal – particularly in the Summer. Nad’s I’ve heard of and used… but I had no idea that they now have Exfoliating Body Wax Strips! Using patented Xfol™ technology, these strips contain an exfoliator on the outside and wax on the inside to provide you with smooth, hair-free results. Since waxing I’ve learned how especially important exfoliating is – who wants in-growns?! No one, trust me. It’s awesome that you can use these easily at-home and DIY your hair removal.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Mineral Water Gel Moisturizer// Maybe you think because it’s not cold out your skin isn’t getting as dehydrated, but it totally is. Dehydration is more than just tight skin, it can even be the cause of acne! The Vichy Aqualia Thermal Mineral Water Gel Moisturizer has a lightweight, oil-free formula that provides 48-hour hydration. Ingredients like mineralizing thermal water, hyaluronic acid, aquabioryl and y-carrageenans make this the perfect moisturizer for morning and night. I love a gel moisturizer in the Summer because it feels cool to the skin when you apply – which we all need a little bit of in these hot months.

*Shop VichyUSA.com and get 20% off + free shipping with promotion code: BABBLE at checkout. Offer valid through 11:59pm PST, 08/15/2016. Offer cannot be combined with other discounts or gift sets.

Low Maintenance Makeup Products for High Maintenance People

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Are you high maintenance? It’s okay, on some level we all are. It’s nothing to ever be embarrassed about, but maybe there are instances when you need your beauty routine to still be high maintenance but you don’t want to look like it’s high maintenance. Below are some products that I’ve been using lately to create a psudo-low maintenance look.

Face.

Prep with Benefit The POREfessional Matte Rescue ($28.00 // Sephora). Perfect to spot treat areas that need extra mattifying and to hide pores. It’s got a slight green cast that helps with color correcting also. This product is not technically a makeup primer, so you’ll need something else on top of it if you wish to prime (see below) but you can totally skip the Benefit if you don’t need the extra pore hiding or color correction.

Prime with a multi-duty primer like the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer ($37.00 // Sephora). This tip actually IS low maintenance because it’s going to prime, color correct, hide pores AND mattify. This particular one is for oily skin but there are many options to choose from. Find the one that best suits your skin type and buy!

Layer a medium-to-full coverage mattifying foundation on top of the primer such as NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint ($44.00 // Sephora). It’s mattifying (when you’re as oily as I am, all the mattifying things you can get your hands on is what’s best). The coverage is perfect and it feels/looks light.

Hide extra things like under-eye circles and melasma with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Anti-Aging Concealer ($24.00 // ULTA Beauty). It hides the extra BS that won’t go away.

When I’m in major need of coverage I dust on a bit of IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation ($35.00 // ULTA Beauty) which helps cover a smidge more and keep it all in place. Can you tell I need the coverage?!

For extra mattifying I go in later at my oily areas with a bit of invisible setting powder. A loose powder will keep you even more matte but lately I’ve been loving the MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder ($27.00 // Nordstrom) because it’s quick and easy to tote around in my bag without making a mess. The Zac Posen release is shown below but it’s also available in the regular packaging.

Cheeks.

Start by bronzing. Technically this is a face thing but I put most of the product at the cheek area and then work it down the jaw line and at the temples so it’s light and natural. A new product I’m loving is the IT Cosmetics Sunshine in a Compact (shown) but it’s not out yet (IDK when, I’ll find out!) so until then check out the IT Cosmetics CC + Radiance Ombre Bronzer ($34.00 // ULTA Beauty). Sunshine in a compact is matte, whereas the Ombre is not… so you really could benefit from having both anyway. 😉

Blush is necessary no matter what the makeup look. It’s also important to change up the blush color based on outfit, skintone and even your mood. The new butterLondon BlushClutch ($39.00 // ULTA Beauty) makes that easy, particularly for traveling. In addition to the clutch there are three single shades available in Hibiscus, Violet and Tiger Lily ($15.00 each // ULTA Beauty).

What’s the sun matter if it’s not bouncing off a gorgeous highlight? For my look I used Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold (which also makes for a gorgeous shadow) but I believe it’s not available anymore. For a choice that’s just as golden try NARS Frenzy Dual-Intensity Blush($45.00 // Sephora).

Eyes.

My lids are oily so I always prime them with something that will neutralize the color of the lids like Benefit Air Patrol ($29.00 // Sephora) as well as lock eye looks into place. Generally this is something like MAC Utterly Becoming Pro Longwar Paint Pot. Utterly Becoming isn’t available anymore but MAC Painterly Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($22.00 // Nordstrom) is a good replacement.

Your eye look will be fast, but look incredible. The new IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Essentials Matte Luxe Transforming Eye Shadow Palette($28.00 // ULTA Beauty) is perfection for creating a neutral, simple look that you can do fast but have it look like it took much longer than it did. The six shades are matte but the Transforming Hello Light shade can turn them luminous and soft in a snap. Work-safe matte to happy hour glow time.

Below this palette is swatched twice. The first time the shades are matte, the second time I applied the Transforming Hello Light on top.

Finish up by lining the eyes with a dark brown eye pencil. I love Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 // Sephora) because they go on quickly and even when you’re using a neutral shade it makes an impact. For this look I used Stag, which came in a set, but two other faves are Bourbon and Hustle.

For mascara, say it with me, IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara ($24.00 // ULTA Beauty) every time. It’s literally that false lash look without the glue and fake-ness of it all. A time saver, for sure, but still looking like there’s that effort.

In this look I decided to try a new product on my brows – the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Brow ($27.00 // Sephora). It’s got the slanted tip for easy brow application as well as the spoolie brush on the other side. A special feature is a twist off that houses a small, sponge-tipped applicator already primed with highlighter. Keep it in place with a brow gel like Anastasia Clear Brow Gel ($22.00 // Sephora).

Lips.

The world is basically your oyster here. This look is so neutral that anything is wearable. Below I’m wearing COVERGIRL Punch Oh Sugar Lip Balm ($8.99 // ULTA Beauty). Bet ya thought I was going to say Chantecaille 😉

Now you’re ready! In the look below I’m wearing everything that I talked about above!

Are you high maintenance? What are your favorite products for looking low maintenance?

butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom Nail Tinted Moisturizer Swatches + Review

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

You’ve heard of and probably even used tinted moisturizer. For your face. But do you use it for your nails? Probably not. It’s likely you’ve never even heard of it. Before the info for the new butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom Nail Tinted Moisturizer ($18.00 // ULTA Beauty) released, I hadn’t either.

Even during the warmer months I suffer from nail hell. I’m a reformed nail biter (not going to lie, I still get at my right thumb nail sometimes) and there was a point in time where acrylics were life. They actually helped me to stop biting, but basically ruined my nails. I still have dents in my thumbs from them and the after-effect is dry, brittle, lined and peeling nails. Keeping my hands and cuticles moisturized helps a lot but it never fully makes a permanent difference.

The butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom Nail Tinted Moisturizer is available in six shades – Fair, Light, Neutral, Medium, Tan and Deep. Just like tinted moisturizer for your face you can find the shade that best matches your skin tone. This treatment will “give the appearance of healthy, natural looking nails while a revolutionary Micro Smart Active Technology delivers a controlled release of ingredients to lock in moisture and help repair nails over time”.

Basically, much like the tinted moisturizer we use on our faces, what this should do is “fix” nails – no more breaking, brittle nasty business…. and while it does that it’ll give nails a healthy appearance. Check out my before and after below:

In between swatching so many nail polishes I make it a point to wear the butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom Nail Tinted Moisturizer in Fair (swatched below). So far I’ve noticed less peeling on my nails and over a longer period of time I hope to see an even bigger difference.

I like wearing the Fair because it seems to really brighten up my nails, but I could absolutely use the Neutral and I imagine the Light. Unlike tinted moisturizer for the face there’s no limit to a certain shade – though some will look better on your nails than others.

Would you use tinted moisturizer on your nails?

The butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom Nail Tinted Moisturizer retails for $18.00 and is available at ULTA Beauty, Nordstrom and butterlondon.com. butter LONDON is “7 free” & does not add formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP, toluene, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, or xylene to any of its nail formulas.

butter LONDON Shadow Clutch Palette Swatches, Review + EOTD

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

When it comes to makeup collectors lovers in general I think we can all be a little indecisive. Most days I personally go for a neutral eye look. But sometimes I like to flip it and add in a fun color… blue… mint… maybe even duochrome! It’s easier than ever to change up your eye look with the butter LONDON Shadow Clutch Palette ($39.00 // ULTA Beauty).

In addition to being small-ish, sturdy and with an included mirror and brush the butter London Shadow Clutch also has a very special feature. You can swap out the eye shadow shades. All are removable or interchangeable.

The packaging itself is simply black cardboard with gold lettering on the front and the shade break down/ingredients on the back. When you open the top of the box there’s a quick how-to on changing out the eyeshadow shades.

Two butter London Shadow Clutch Palettes are available now in Pretty Proper and Natural Charm, which is the palette featured in this post. Natural Charm contains six eyeshadow shades – Linen(matte ivory), Citrine(metallic pinky cream), Quartz(metallic golden bronze), Camel(matte espresso), Leather(matte dark brown) and Camo(metallic khaki). Natural Charm is perfect if you’re warm toned while Pretty Proper will be better for cool tones.

I have no complaints about any of the eye shadows in this palette, or the Wardrobe Duos that I was able to test out. All were creamy and easy to work with (yes, even the matte shades!) and I experienced no fall out or creasing (when worn over primer).

Four butter London Shadow Clutch Wardrobe Duos($15.00 // ULTA Beauty) are available in Sassy Pants, Up All Night and the two featured in this post – Fancy Flutter(metallic light gold/brown & green duochrome) and Moody Blues(icy mint/blue metallic).

Fancy Flutter

Moody Blues

To change out the shades grip the sides and pop up the top piece (it raises like a bar on an amusement park ride) and slide the shades out that you want to switch. Slide in the ones you want, mix em around… whatever floats your boat. Snap the bar back in place and you’re done.

The swatches below are done on dry with no primers:

In the eye look below I used Urban Decay Primer Potion for a base and applied Citrine all over the lid and through the crease. Quartz is applied all over the lid and through the crease except for at the inner corners with Leather lightly at the outer V and Camel (lightly) to blend out the crease. Linen was used to highlight and Quartz is under the lower lash line. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Stag was used as an eye liner and Benefit Roller Lash is the mascara.

What shades would you want in your palette?

The butter London Shadow Clutch Palette retails for $39.00 each and the Wardrobe Duos retail for $15.00 each. Both are available at ULTA Beauty and butterlondon.com.

butter London Brilliant Lip Crayon Swatches, Review + Giveaway

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

In June you got a small glimpse of the butter London Lippy Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon ($20.00 // ULTA Beauty) in the Shine Out Loud post. You didn’t think Ladybird was flitting around all alone, did you?

The Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons are rounded and medium-thick in size with a sharpener on one end. The formula is smooth and glossy, almost making the lips appear more full to the eye. They last about as long as a normal, glossy lipstick crayon would but touch ups are easy since the pencil fits nicely into a makeup bag. The wear is comfortable and the pigment is wonderful.

In addition to Ladybird the other 7 Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons are:

  • Tea With the Queen (opaque, light nude creme)
  • Trout Pout(opaque, light coral creme)
  • Disco Biscuit(opaque, bubblegum pink creme)
  • Primrose Hill Picnic (opaque, tropical pink creme)
  • Teddy Boy(opaque, rosy creme)
  • Toff(opaque, red grape creme)
  • Ruby Murray (opaque, deep berry creme)

The butter London Brilliant Lip Crayons are swatched below with no primer:

butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons retail for $20.00 and can be purchased at ULTA Beauty and butterlondon.com.

butter London Shine Out Loud + Giveaway!

Today you’re not only going to check out how some butter London products look on me you’re also going to get a chance to win ALL 4 of the products!! In this post are products you can use to “Shine Out Loud” – meaning butter London took the strength of lacquer and applied it to the next generation of colour cosmetics so you can get that “lacquer-like shine with high-fashion color”. Bold eyes, statement lip, statement nail. Go.

Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara($20.00 // ULTA Beauty). I like the ball on the end of this because it makes it easier to coat the inner and outer corner lashes. One coat gave a nice look to my lashes but I did find I had to be careful on the second coat. This mascara is a little wet and can clump if you’re not careful.

Ladybird Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon($20.00 // ULTA Beauty). This shade is gorgeous and carries off the perfect shine and pigment. It lasts about as long as a normal lipstick crayon would but touch ups are easy since the pencil fits nicely into a makeup bag.

Ladybird Trend Nail Lacquer ($15.00 // Nordstrom). I’m a huge fan of the butter London Nail Lacquer formula and Ladybird applied just as wonderfully as the rest. Smooth and opaque in one coat.

Union Jack Black Wink Eye Pencil($18.00 // ULTA Beauty). The perfect black liner for a neutral look or smokey eye. Smooth and easy to apply this lasted well on my upper lash line and even wore several hours on my lower waterline, which was particularly impressive to me because things don’t generally stay there too well when I wear them.

The swatches below are done dry, on bare skin with no primer underneath.

In the look below: (EYES) For an eyeshadow base I used MAC Utterly Becoming Pro Longwear Paint Pot. The shadows used in this look are from the Dior 5-Couleur in Ambre Nuit. The liner is butter London Union Jack Black Wink Eye Pencil and the mascara is butter London Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara. (BROWS)Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Pencil and Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. (FACE)Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream in Light/Medium, IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation SPF 50 in Light, Dior Coral Sunset Nude Skin Tan Tie Dye Edition, Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour, Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight. (LIPS) butter London Ladybird Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon.

butter London products can be purchased at Nordstrom, Ulta and butterlondon.com.

butter London Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquers Swatches, Review + Giveaway!

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Happy 6 year Blogiversary to me! Well… last month. I totally forgot and LinkedIn reminded me so I’m a little late on the celebration, but I hope you guys will enjoy it anyway! For the first giveaway you’ll be entering to win the 4 items featured in this post which are 4 of the butter London Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquers ($18.00 // Nordstrom) in Shop Girl, Over the Moon, Her Majesty’s Red and Chat Up.

butter London boasts that their new 10-in-1 formula includes sophisticated, long-wearing shades proven to promote brighter, strong, healthier nails.
What are the 10x? Check it out:

1. Long-wear for up to 10 days
2. Shock absorbing & chip-resistant
3. Salon colour coverage
4. Gel-like cushion and superior shine
5. Fade-resistant colour
6. Formulated to smooth nails
7. Formulated to Strengthen nails
8. Prevents breakage and peeling
9. Visibly brighter, more radiant nails
10. No formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP, toluene, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, or xylene

The 4 shades swatches below are Shop Girl(opaque, soft beige creme), Over the Moon(opaque, warm grey creme), Her Majesty’s Red (opaque, true red creme) and Chat Up(opaque, deep blue creme). I did the swatches using Cult Nails Get it On for a base and used no top coat. The shine you see is the shine you get from these polishes on their own. Only one coat of nail polish was required for each to be fully opaque.

I love that these polishes only required one coat to have full opacity and self-leveled to be even. The shine is good without a top coat but you can obviously add a top coat if you’d like more. I found that these polishes dried extremely fast and lasted 5 days without major chipping and wear (which is a win for me, as I’m pretty rough on my hands). I can’t speak to the breakage and peeling prevention because I haven’t worn these shades long-term, but I do hope that they’ll help because I do have issues with that, particularly in the winter.

butter London products can be purchased at Nordstrom, Ulta and butterlondon.com.

Top 10 Glitter Nail Polishes

Affiliate Links

It’s almost Christmas and New Years so that means a lot of sparkle and shimmer are happening! The easiest way to add extra bling into your beauty routine is by putting it on your nails. If you don’t have time for rhinestones and nail art consider just a glitter nail polish!

Here are the Top 10 Glitter Nail Polishes in my stash:

  1. Cult Nails Unicorn Puke. I think I’ve put this in every glitter round-up that I’ve ever done. While it was extremely limited edition upon it’s release (only 275 numbered bottles were sold) it did re-release as Clairvoyant to the delight of many. There are just no words to describe how beautiful this polish is. Maria has been known to find “LE gems” randomly and hold giveaways. So make sure you’re following Cult Nails on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date on things like that and also company sales. (see the swatch // shop Cult Nails)
  2. Cult Nails Feedback. Speaking of Cult Nails can we please talk about the lust that I have for Feedback and it’s look of shattered mylar shards? (I probably could have done this entire post on Cult Nails glitters) This one is also Limited Edition but still available! Right now save 50% on Cult Nails Lacquers on the website with code HOLIDAY50! (see the swatch // buy it).
  3. China Glaze Atlantis. It’s hard to describe this one other than a psychedelic trip under the sea. I swear I’ve seen it in store but maybe I’m crazy because when I search people are saying it’s rare? (see the swatch // buy it).
  4. Deborah Lippmann Baby I’m a Star. This polish came in a set of three as part of a 2013 Nordstrom Exclusive trio called Space Oddity. It’s one of my faves to layer with! (see the swatch).
  5. Zoya Lux. The PixieDust. Can we just please include them all? They’re so blingy and beautiful. I haven’t met one I didn’t like! (see the swatch // buy it).
  6. Butter London Tart With a Heart. A brilliant gold with copious amounts of holo glitter. Need I say more? (see the swatch // buy it).
  7. OPI DS Tourmaline. Probably the pink glitter to end all pink glitters. Saturated barbie pink and holo throughout? End me now. (see the swatch // buy it).
  8. OPI DS Titanium. A deep dark grey with even more holo glitter than Tourmaline? It does exist and you do need it. (see the swatch // buy it).
  9. OPI Snow Globetrotter. A clear base loaded with hex glitter in white, gold, green and purple. Super festive without over-doing it! This is from this years Holiday Gwen Collection. (swatch coming soon // buy it).
  10. OPI Comet in the Sky. Similar to Snow Globetrotter this one also has gold, green, purple and blue hex glitters suspended in a clear base. It’s a great holiday nail polish topper that doesn’t scream Christmas. Also from this years Holiday Gwen Collection. (swatch coming soon // buy it).

I tried to limit this post to the nail polishes that you could still get your hands on. A few others found their way in, but with so many brands releasing SO MANY collections these shades come and go quickly. I recommend if you ever see one that you’re in love with and have to have… buy it. It’s better than regret!
