Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Brow Gel Swatches + Review

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

For the last several years brows have basically all but defined beauty. Some of the most famous people of today are known for their natural, full brows. Not all of us are so blessed, but we can pretend like we are. The Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Brow Gel ($22.50 // Charlotte Tilbury) has got the first of it’s kind micro-fine brush that can grab on to every single brow hair, even the baby ones you can’t see.

The Sculpt & Shade Gel is “enriched with volumizing Magic Elasticizing Wax, nourishing Vitamin E, strengthening Castor Oil and Natural Pigments that lift and tint”. If your brows are already that of the big and beautiful then you’ll love to use this product to fill them in with color and make a nice frame for your face. If you’re like me and don’t have much of a shape or baby hairs to work with then you’ll want to use this product to make your eye brows look more natural when you fill them in.

Below is a color swatch of the shade Linda, which is a medium taupe shade and recommended for those with dark blonde to medium brown hair. Other shades available are Clear, Brigitte (for those with blonde, light brown or red hair.) and Cara (for those with dark brown to black hair).

For the pic below I used Charlotte Tilbury Linda Legendary Brows Brow Gel on one side carefully making sure I applied product to any brow area that I wanted the shape at. This way it will pick up the visible hairs as well as any baby hairs that I can’t see. I tweezed anything that was “outer limits” and then used an eye brow pencil to lightly fill in any areas that were completely bald (where the brow gel obviously won’t be able to help me) making sure to brush the product through frequently. To finish it off I ran another coat of Legendary Brows over the hairs.

I really think the finished look is much more natural than what I’m usually working with!

What do you think of this super mini brow gel wand? Could you use it on your brows?

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Brow Gel retails for $22.50 and is available now at

Glossier Boy Brow Review + How I Do My Eyebrows

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

I’ve had the Glossier Boy Brow($16.00 // Glossier) in my possession for many months now. I didn’t use it right away because I was at that point where I was hating on my brows. Every day – brow hate. My eyebrows have been growing back, which is nice, and a decent shape is beginning to form… but ohhhh my goodness does that take time. It basically takes years. Between the 90’s girl pluck-a-thon that I was a part of and all the hormonal BS (thanks, mom body) my grow back time is going to be at the maximum. Oh, you have one “Nickleback brow”? I have two. Until I saw this YouTube video.

In the video she begins with some tips & steps then continues by brushing a clear brow gel through her brows and letting it dry. Maybe you’re like – “DUH, Brooke” – but seriously it’s something I’ve never tried in all of the years I’ve been fighting with my brows. My eyes fell to the Glossier Boy Brow and I thought… what the heck…. can’t hurt, right?! Now, I used a tinted version, specifically the shade “Blond”, because A. that’s what was sent to me and B. because I was like “well the tinted version will show me where all of those fine, light hairs are laying and I won’t over-fill”.

…and it worked. I began by popping the powder on the brow, as the video suggests, and then applying Glossier Boy Brow in Blonde. As it dried a bit I worked on my eye makeup. The tinted Boy Brow picked up on all of my rando hairs so it was easier for me to fill in and not look too drawn in. Interestingly enough it also touched on hairs that were out of the brow line I want to keep so I was able to see them better to remove them – making it easier to keep my brows in shape at home.

Next I used the spoolie on the end of my brow pencil to brush through the gel again. I feel it makes the hairs look a bit fluffier but they still hold in place and obviously keep the tint. I’m basically using different brow pencils every time because I test things a lot but I always go back to my tried and true IT Cosmetics YBBB. As she instructs in the video I marked the areas to fill by using the pencil at the inside dip of the nose for the inner part of the brow, then place the pencil at the outer base of your nostril to find the center where the arch should be and the outer where the tail of the brow should end.

After I finish up with the filling in I brush them through one more time and it’s done! There’s no need for more gel and if you use the right pencil your brows will last you all day long.

How do you fill in your eyebrows?

Three shades of Glossier Boy Brow are available in Blond, Brown and Black. Shop for it on their website where it retails for $16.00.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color Review

Affiliate Links

One of my biggest beauty fears is having my eye brows look like they’re drawn in. Fierce in a way that isn’t Beyonce. The bad type of fierce. While working at Ulta one day I saw Stila had a new product displayed – the Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color($21.00 // Ulta). A slim, tapered marker for your brows. Intrigued I swatched a few on my hand and liked how pigmented, yet soft looking the color was. It seemed easy to make quick, light strokes to mimic the appearance of brow hair. I didn’t buy it that day, but about a month ago while I was in Sephora I tried it on my brows and was hooked.

In Sephora when I tested the product on my brows (in the shade Light, which is shown in the photographs) it was quick and easy to apply. I let it set and it didn’t budge for anything. The marker itself was leaking a bit and the MUA thought that maybe someone pressed too hard and broke the marker part because the other shades displayed for testing weren’t like that. I ended up buying the marker that day.

When I got it home I found the product wasn’t so easy to apply. The first pass revealed no change to my brows. And I have no eye brows, so this marker didn’t show up at all on my face, yet it did on my hand. I shook it up a bit and pressed it a little harder onto my hand and tried it on my brow area again. It took FIVE passes to get a bit of color to show. You guys I went through this off and on for a month with this product and it was the same every time. I would have to use a brow pencil over-top to make myself look presentable. Did I get a dud? Maybe. The broken one in Sephora seemed to work well, so maybe product just wasn’t coming out fast enough on the marker I got.

At the end of the day the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color isn’t a product I’d personally recommend but it did give me the confidence to try brow markers. To find the perfect brow marker. To be continued!

Top 10 Brow Products for Gals Without Brows

Affiliate Links

On just about every single eyebrow post I’ve done you’ve seen me whine about how scarce my eyebrow hairs are. Not only was I a teenager in the 90’s (when plucking brow hair into pencil thin lines was all the rage) but I’ve also had two children (brow hair disappeared more and more with each one!). For this weeks Top 10 Tuesday we’re talking brows and I thought it would be the perfect time to share the products I love to use on my brows and that work for me. At the end I’ll feature a little section of fails as well.

  1. IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Brow Power Skinny Pencil. YBBB ($24.00 // Ulta) is my number one end-all-be-all brow product. Easy to use and quick this automatic pencil features an ultra-fine pencil on one side and a spoolie brush on the other side.
  2. IT Cosmetics Build-a-Brow Cream Gel. The IT Cosmetics Build-a-Brow ($24.00 // Ulta // reviewed here) is a gel that stains into your brows making it waterproof, budgeproof, LIFE proof. Similar products are available from multiple brands but this is the first one I had a hard time taking off even with makeup remover. This is important to me because I’m completely paranoid about my brows fading or disappearing because it’ll look like a huge hole in my brow. Not a trend I’m okay with.
  3. Dior Diorshow Brow Styler. The Diorshow Browstyler($29.00 // Sephora) is similar to the IT Cosmetics but is a little more expensive. If you’re a loyal Dior fan it’s definitely a good pick.
  4. Milani Brow Shaping Kit 02. Of all the powders I’ve tried in life the Milani Brow Shaping Kit($7.99 // CVS) is my fave because it includes a highlight shade as well as two brow shades to mix the perfect match. It also has a few little tools for easy travel touch ups.
  5. Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. I picked the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel ($22.00 // Sephora) as a fave because it has one major feature. The gel doesn’t clump up in the brush. The tube the wand comes out of has a small opening and it removes any excess gel that you don’t want deposited on your brow. For those of us with very little brow to work with, we don’t need a lot of product. This wand/tube combo is perfect.
  6. Benefit Gimme Brow. I am obsessed with the adorable-ness of Benefit Gimme Brow($22.00 // Sephora). Mini sized (which is what makes it so adorable) and precise I love to use the light/medium shade to get my brows held in place through the day.
  7. Spoolie Brush. I spent the beginning years of my bloggie life thinking wtf at the spoolie brush. It is so necessary for a clean looking brow. Thick brows, thin brows you need this to comb through the hairs and blend/evenly disperse the product. I also like to use this if I apply brow gel a little to heavily. This helps spread it out and remove a bit of the overflow of product. The one I reach for the most is the Pixi Lash & Brow Brush ($8.00 // Target).
  8. Tweezerman Tweezers. Tried & true, the best of the best, Tweezerman Tweezers($22.00 // Sephora) have been my go-to since before I can remember. Regardless of your brow size you still need to clean up stragglers. I’ve tried other tweezer brands and none live up.
  9. ELF Stencils. It always helps to have a bit of a guide, especially when you have little-to-no hairs and are trying for that perfect arch. Expensive stencils are available from Anastasia but I found these ELF ones at Target for a buck and they’re just as fab.

Brow Fails.

No matter how easy these products below may make life for you, they don’t shine bright in my eyes. Brow products that haven’t worked for me– Benefit Brow Zings and Maybelline Brow Drama. Benefit Brow Zings($22.00 // Sephora // reviewed here) just made my little hairs look slicked down and sparse. A Benefit Brow Gal did them with it at Ulta and it looked okay, so I bought it. No matter what I did I could not manipulate that wax to work in my favor and even thought that it was just weird looking because the wax had a tint. I did like the powder side, but why am I paying for both when I’m only using one? I ended up taking that back and purchasing a clear wax and a new powder but that also did not work. Maybelline Brow Drama($6.99 // Target). This is a new product with a lot of hype. This product is not for us gals without brows. It does nothing because it has nothing to work with. It didn’t work for me, but if you’ve got thick, beautifully shaped brows it will work for you. Check out YouTuber Bailey B’s in depth (yet quick) review and demo video here.

MAC The Waterproof Brow Swatches + Review

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

MAC The Waterproof Brow Collection is a fantastic addition to the already killer line up of brow products by the brand. With this collection you’ll be able to sculpt your brows with new products like the Fludiline Brow Gelcreme (available in three shades) or the Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set (available in six shades).

Fluidline Brow Gelcreme ($16.00). This is available in three shades – Deep Dark Brunette, Redhead and Dirty Blonde (swatched below) – housed in a pot like the Fluidline gel liner. I found the formula to be smooth and easy to work with. It sets quickly but not so quickly that you don’t have time to make it look good. This lasts all day until you remove it with makeup remover (I use MAC Gently Off).

Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set ($17.00). This is available in six shades – Toasted Blonde, Red Chestnut, Quiet Brunette, Bold Brunette and the two swatched below in Emphatically Blonde and Brown Ebony. I love the mini spooly brush on these. It makes it so much easier to be precise with a colored brow mascara. If you’re lucky enough to have thick brows this is all you need to perfect and set them for the day. If you’re like me and your brows laughed at you and ran away after you had kids then you can use this to refine brow hairs after you use the Gelcreme.

In short, while the rest of your face may melt in the Summer heat, your brows won’t have to 😉

The MAC Waterproof Brow line is available at Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and

Makeup Wars – My Beauty Diary

Affiliate Links

This week for Makeup Wars we decided to do a beauty diary. Basically a “my day in beauty”. I tried to be diligent in writing down what I was using all day, so hopefully I don’t forget anything! Here’s what happens to my face, bod & hair throughout the day (beauty wise!).

Good morning!
I wake up around 7-8am (God willing, sometimes insomnia visits and that becomes around 3am). After my son is out the door I hop in the shower and hit my mug with Murad Clarifying Cleanser and my Clarisonic. I also like to use a lip scrub from LUSH. Currently I’m still using Santa Baby from Christmas. Once or twice a week I exfoliate my face with Kate Somerville ExfoliKate. For the bod I’ve been using Dove Pistachio Cream with Magnolia Body Wash & Body Bar. When shaving happens I generally use Schick Hydro Silk and Skintimate Shave Gel. Hair gets the AMAZE-BALLS OGX Sea Mineral Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner. I haven’t even been using a hair mask once a week, because the OGX is that good.

Out of the bathroom I start by applying Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Acne Treatment Lotion all over my face. Then I apply a spray lotion all over my body – something like the Vaseline Spray & Go or St. Ives Fresh Hydration Spray. The hair gets a generous hit of Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream (starting at the ends and putting very little at the crown) and Agadir Argan Oil at the ends. My fave perfume is Chanel Chance EDT but lately I’m also reaching for Chloe Roses de Chloe.

In the interest of saving time I’ll just go through my daily makeup routine when I’m not actually going anywhere but the store or to pick the kids up from school. Generally (unless something is being tested) I start with the eyes and apply Urban Decay Primer Potion. MAC Utterly Becoming Paint Pot is an excellent base for all things eye balls and on top of that I go easy with Urban Decay Naked Basics or Hourglass Suede Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo. Lately I’ve been getting at my brows with Vincent Longo Eyebrow Micro Pencil and NARS Oural Brow Gel. For a liner I reach for something neutral like Marc Jacobs Ro(Cocoa), Urban Decay Hustle or MUFE Aqua Eyes in 24L. Mascara is usually IT Cosmetics Tightline and/or Milani Total Lash Cover. Face Makeup is IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye/Hello Light Liquid Brightener and IT Cosmetics Full Coverage CC+ Cream. On the cheeks I’m using NARS Olympia for contouring and one of the six Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes. For my lips, when it’s just an easy day like this, it’s always some sort of sheer-semi sheer gloss like my current fave YSL Gloss Volupte in Golden (20).

Through the day…
During the day I usually just touch up as needed. Generally that just means a dusting of IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation on the nose and reapplying gloss. More often than not, though, I just end up slicking on Jack Black Lip Balm (of which I’m obsessed with).

Nighty Night!
The makeup removal process is quick for me. I remove my eye makeup with MAC Gently Off Eye & Lip Remover. My makeup is removed by using Murad Clarifying Cleanser & the Clarisonic. Lately I’ve been obsessively staring at wrinkles by my eyes, so I start out my skincare regime with Le Metier de Beaute Revive Eye Concentrate and then I smooth on StriVectin SD Advanced. Because that isn’t moisturizing enough for me in the evening I also use Kate Somerville Oil-Free Moisturizer. I can’t fall asleep with dry lips so I always dab on a bit of LUSH Honey Trap Lip Balm. I also check for stray eye brow hairs that managed to pop up and get at them with my Tweezerman Tweezers.

After all of that I settle down to watch a show and slather on some LUSH Lemony Flutter & pop on my gloves.

I seriously didn’t feel high maintenance about myself until I wrote this post. Tell me I’m not alone!

Too Faced Bulletproof Brows Swatches & Review

Affiliate Links

New for Spring 2014Too Faced introduces Bulletproof Brows. A budge-proof brow formula available in two shades – Universal Brunette and today’s post of Universal Taupe.

What Sephora says about Too Faced Bulletproof Brows:

What it is:
A sweat-proof, water-resistant brow definer.

What it does:
This groundbreaking brow definer is a powder, gel, pencil, and setting wax all in one cashmere clay formula. It applies creamy, sets dry, and doesn’t move until you decide to remove it. Too Faced created this product to give women the confidence in knowing their brows will last longer than a day at work and a night on the town.

This set contains:
– 0.07 oz Bulletproof Brows
– Bulletproof Brow Brush

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
Bulletproof Brow includes a dual-sided, angled and spooley brush for precise application. In just 60 seconds, color locks down for 24-hour Bulletproof Brows.

Inside this box is everything Too Faced says you’ll need to make your brows bulletproof. Which is only the pot of product and a duel-sided brush with an angled side and a spooly side.

This is my first experience with a gel for brows. I must say, I’m totally hooked! I find it much easier to fill in my sparse brows as well as make them appear more symmetrical. The formula is easy to apply and blend. Once it sets it won’t come off until you hit it with your makeup remover. Be sure not to get a ton of product on the angled side. You won’t need much and you’ll want it to appear as natural as possible. I also recommend at least spot cleaning the angled brush after every use. The leftover product will harden otherwise and will make for a not so lovely application the next time around. I used Too Faced Bulletproof Brows in this photo.

The biggest downer people are going to experience is that this is only available in two shades – universal taupe and universal brunette. These shades will certainly match a wide variety of people, but unfortunately won’t be a hit for everyone. All we can hope for, is since it’s a new product for this brand, is that we’ll see some more shades in the future. Because everyone needs Bulletproof Brows.

Too Faced Bulletproof Brows retails for $30.00 and is available at Sephora, Ulta and

Benefit Instant Brow Pencil & Gimme Brow Swatches & Review

Affiliate Links

I’m unofficially naming these two products the dynamic duo. Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium and Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Light to Medium saved my face. How? Well, I recently went very blonde. LOTS of highlights later, my brows were way too dark. I ran off in search of a lighter shade to fill in my brows and while I was perusing the shelves of Sephora I remembered a video from Raeview where she sang the praises of both of these Benefit products.

The Instant Brow Pencil($20.00) is available in three shades. I chose the lightest shade which is light to medium. The shade of this pencil is perfect for what I needed and is waxy enough to groom the brows easily without making them look heavy. Because this pencil is more waxy than not I suggest filling in a bit, then brushing through with the spooly side. Keep doing that as you go through the whole brow and you’ll have perfection at the end!

The Gimme Brow($22.00) gel is only available in two shades, so I also chose light/medium in this one. As far as formulas go it’s your general, water-resistant tinted brow gel. The brush is what makes it special. It’s a teeny tiny tapered spool brush, which makes it easy to fill in my thin brows and not get extra gel product anywhere that it shouldn’t be, thus ruining my eye look. This product kept my brows looking tamed and groomed all day.

I’ll probably actually keep up with these shades for awhile. I’m keeping the hair light but thinking of lacing some caramel through in a month or so. My other brow pencils will likely still be too dark to go back to just yet.

What are your thoughts on this duo?

IT Cosmetics YBBB Brow Power Skinny Universal Pencil Swatches & Review

Press SampleAffiliate Links

Just when I think I’ve found the easiest way to do up my eye brows I get proven wrong.  IT Cosmetics has a wonderful YBBB (Your Brows But Better) product in the form of Brow Power Skinny Universal Eyebrow Pencil.

What says about IT Cosmetics YBBB Brow Power Skinny Pencil:

What is it: The YBBB (Your Brows But Better) Brow Power Skinny Universal Eyebrow Pencil is an ultra-fine, high-definition, long-wearing automatic eyebrow pencil infused with cutting-edge brow-enhancing ingredients and technology.Who is it for: Anyone who wants their most natural-looking, beautiful brows ever! Also for anyone who wants brow-enhancing and conditioning benefits, wants to cover gray, and wants a soft, polished, naturally pretty look.

Why is it different: The super-skinny tip draws the tiniest of lines, allowing you to easily mimic the look of natural brow hairs, fill in your natural brow, and even cover gray. The spooly end brush gives a natural, polished look, and the universal shade works on all hair colors and skin tones. How do I use it: Use soft, feathery strokes to fill in your natural brow shape. Apply softer strokes to match lighter hair, including blonde and silver. Press harder for darker hair, including medium brown to black. As a finishing touch, lightly brush through brows with the spooly brush.

The shade is in Universal Transforming Taupe and I think this would work best on people with medium to dark colored hair. You can press harder for a deeper color and press lightly for a lighter color. If you have very blonde or very dark brown-black hair you may find that this won’t work for you or you’d need to use it with another product.

I thought this pencil was quick and easily to fill in the brows and looked very natural. Definitely one of the best I’ve tried. Not to mention it’s water-proof, sweat-proof and smudge-proof… whew!!

IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil retails for $24.00 can be purchased on QVC.
