May 2016 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

The theme for the May 2015 Beauty Box 5 is “Bait Some Beauty, Save a Mermaid” – love ittttt! Basically if you were ever to become a mermaid, these are the products you should be taking to sea with you.

What is Beauty Box 5Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription service that is curated by a team of beauty experts. With each shipment you’ll receive 5 samples for $12.00 (monthly). You can also choose to save some cash and sign up for $30.00 and be billed quarterly or $99.00 and be billed yearly. Shipping is FREE and your membership also gets you exclusive discounts from partner brands.

This month I got…

From Briogeo, Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Spray. Perfect for manageability and moisture after you get out of the pool or ocean. My daughters hair gets really dry and I spritized some of this in her hair after her bath last night. She woke up this AM with gorgeous hair. She’s so lucky!

From Mystic Tan, Mocha-Kyssed Bronzer Lotion. A buildable, slight bronzer. I definitely need products like this for my face, which tends to not get as much sun as the rest of my body (no matter how much I SPF I’m a baseball mom, so my arms and chest get a lot of sun while a hat protects my face well). I haven’t tried it yet but it’s on my vanity for a day when I’ll be at home and can let it bake for testing.

From Appeal Cosmetics, Luxurious Lipstick in Crush. A beautiful summer coral shade! This lipstick is hydrating and pigmented. It wore as long as any other lipstick on me and was comfortable. The product sent is FULL SIZE.

From Glamour Dolls, Mermaid Lashes Splash Proof Mascara. A waterproof mascara so you can “flirt with the prince like a pro”. I found that this is fabulous for thickening and lift… and definitely waterproof! The product sent is FULL SIZE.

From Elizabeth Mott, You’re So Fine Liquid Liner in Glitterati. This liner is above “plain black” and sports a slight sparkle that won’t budge in the water. It was a subtle sparkle but I found it hard to apply with the long-ish brush applicator and it definitely wasn’t waterproof. The product sent is FULL SIZE.

My favorite item is definitely the mascara with the lipstick in second. I freaking LOVE that every single makeup item sent is a full sized item. Such an amazing value!

April 2016 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

The theme for the April 2016 Beauty Box 5 is Hydration Vacation. Everything in the box is moisturizing, hydrating, nourishing… you get the idea. Which I can appreciate because my under-eye area has been crazyyyy dry the past few months!

This month I got…

From Maskeraide, All Eyes On Me Hydrating Eye Gels. I’m a crazy person for eye gels! I love the ones from Skyn Iceland and Murad but I love having new ones to test out. These ones from Maskeraide are said to be an “all-in-one treatment to get rid of puffy eyes and fine lines from spring allergies that will brighten, hydrate and firm your skin”.

I need all of those things and since I just got off of the train ride from you-know-where I have them on right now. They feel good on and there’s a lot of product, which I like. BUT. The product is on the front and back (for a secondary use) which is good, in theory. BUT. Product gets everywhere and it’s a hot mess. Having the product on both sides makes it hard to pick them up and then apply to your face (though they do stay on afterwards). The product also gets all over the place. I somehow had it all over my desk and I was very careful. If you purchase these make sure you don’t moisturize your hands or anything beforehand because you’ll be washing up after you apply the gels.

From Jelly Pong Pong, Paradise Pigments. My shade (swatched below, right side) is called Fig Jam and it’s a beautiful blue pink. It sheers out well for a cheek color and lasted the 8 hour test day. It wears well on the lips also and there’s a slight tint all day as it fades which I just like to amp up with a clear balm. You’ll need very little to get the pigment you desire, particularly on your cheeks! The product sent is FULL SIZE.

From Chella, Passionate Pink Moisturizing Lip Pencil. My shade (swatched below, left side) is called Hello Beautiful and it’s also a beautiful blue pink. It pairs up perfectly with the Jelly Pong Pong shade and wears well, though I did need to reapply after eating. I love how it feels and how pigmented it is! This is marked on the card as a full size item and I think that has to be a mistake… because it’s pretty small and the retail is $18.00.

From Global Beauty Care, Green Tea Makeup Remover Wipes. I love makeup remover wipes, like I would be happy to get them every single money in every single one of my beauty boxes. I use certain ones for my face but I use the rest like crazy to remove swatches. These ones are formulated with Green Tea so that they cleanse, nourish, tone and improve the look of wrinkles and dryness. This item is marked as FULL SIZE.

From Soapbox, Sea Minerals Body Wash. So this is amazing! Besides the fact that this body wash smells wonderful and contains aloe vera, shea butter and sea minerals each bottle purchased also gives soap to someone in need. You can find it at Target so make sure you look the next time you go!

My favorite item out of this box is absolutely the Soapbox Sea Minerals Body Wash because it feels great, smells great and gives back. There wasn’t a dud out of this entire box, all items are things I’m going to wear and love. A fab month!

March 2016 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

The theme for the March 2016 Beauty Box 5 is Flower Power. Waltzing us into Spring the right way. Buh-bye snow, helloooooo flowers and sunshine!

From Colour Me, Sky Blue Fragrance. This fragrance smells feminine and fresh. Perfect for Spring! I also love how it was displayed on a pretty blue, plastic card rather than folded up in a firm paper.

From Mai Couture, Blush & Highlighter Papiers. These are so awesome to keep around for travel. I usually keep the ones I get in sample boxes in my makeup bag so that if I’m in a rush and forget blush (which I’ve done several times) I can quickly throw some on in the car.

From Glamour Dolls, Spring Makeup Collection. Members will be getting different items from the collection in their boxes. My box has the Glitter Eyeliner in Skylar. It’s likely I’ll never use a blue glitter liner for anything but Halloween, however Glamour Dolls is priced well, which I didn’t know about before getting this. It’s something to remember when I need an inexpensive, flashy item for just a few uses. This item is full size.

From Pur-lisse, Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum. I was getting tired of this brand in sub-boxes, but since I’ve pared them down and don’t receive it as much any more I’m SUPER excited for this, particularly because it’s for the eyes and I’ve been obsessively coating my eyes with product lately.

From Personail, Custom Floral Nail Polish Wraps. These nail wraps are out of Australia and they’re the perfect spring, floral pattern. I’m not sure how well they apply or last, but step one is look pretty and they pass that test 😉 This item is full size.

From Beauty Box 5, Custom Temporary Tattoo. The tattoo is technically a bonus product and is to give flair to your bikini-wearing, crop-top self this Summer. My daughter promptly stole it from me. This item is full size.

For me, the best items from this months shipment are hands down the Mai Couture Papiers and the Personail Nail Polish Wraps. I’ve seen a few other boxes and their Glamour Doll items were more wearable, so I think if I’d have gotten something like that it’d be a fave also. Makeup items in sub boxes are basically everything.

February 2016 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

Happy 4th Birthday, Beauty Box 5! I can’t believe BB5 is 4 already?! My daughter just turned 7 so that means she was only 3 when this subscription box launched which puts into a weird perspective for me. The theme for February 2016 is “Birthday Sweets” and it’s lookin’ super celebratory 😉

This month I got…

From Hemp Nation, Kiwi-Mango Body Wash. This body wash smells amazingggggg and you can use it for bath time soaks as well. There was an indicator on the insert that this item was sent as a full-size but I’m thinking that’s a typo because the bottle is pretty small and looks nothing like the pic, which usually depicts a full sized item.

From Elizabeth Mott, Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer. This primer goes on sheer and spreads evenly, but you do have to work quickly. It kept my eye shadow in place all day long without any fading or creasing.

From Manna Kadar Beauty, 3-in-1 Shadow, Highlight & Blush. The shade sent is in Fantasy which is described as a shimmery, rose gold pigment. Upon looking up a few other reviews I saw that my product must have shattered in transit, because it’s not meant to be loose like this. Which is a good thing, because as a loose shadow the packaging wouldn’t work out since it’s just a screw top. I did try it out and found the shade to be wearable and buttery smooth. It’s very frosty so I suggest using it sparingly. It would look lovely at the inner corners of the eye. The product sent is full sized.

From Epic Blend, Premium Lip Balm. The scent I got is “Hemp Coconut”. I do love this brand and I’ve gotten this before in a sample box! I’ll never turn up my nose at a chapstick or lip balm! The product sent is full sized.

From Starlooks, Custom Lip Liner. The shade sent is Sultry Sangria which is described as a mauve. This shade was made in honor of BB5’s birthday and is one of my favorite type of shades to line with! The product sent is full sized.

Aside from the fact that there’s a lot of hemp going on here (what kind of celebration are you up to, BB5 😉 jk) I did like the products sent this month. The only downer was the shattered eyeshadow but it is still technically usable.

January 2016 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

The theme for the January 2016 Beauty Box 5 is Ev’rythang Done. It includes items to make sure you have the best hair and nails – which are clearly key in always getting your own way. That’s true, though… especially when you’re shopping. People are so much nicer (store employees and in general) when you look pulled together!

This month I got…

From Not Your Mother’s Haircare, Plump for Joy. Give me all the volume, please! My hair is flat like a pancake on top and this is good for amping things up. You can use it on wet hair before styling (which I do) and on dry hair (which I do on second day hair after I blast with dry shampoo).

From Salon Grafix, Hair Spray. Super hold to keep the flawless style! This hairspray has a megahold of 10 (on a scale from 1-10) but what’s nice is that it’s enriched with antioxidants, vitamins A, B5, C and E. It’s also not sticky (truth) and humidity-resistant. The scent is that strong hairspray smell but I actually love that because it reminds me of my grandma (in a good way) =) There was also a coupon for $1.00 off your purchase of a full size of Salon Grafix Hairspray.

From Nails Inc., Nail Polish. The shade I got is in Hyde Park Place (assorted colors were sent out). This item is full sized and I’m thrilled! The color is nice for winter but still light enough of a grey to be okay in the springtime. Nails Inc. is one of my fave nail polish brands so I’m happy to see the full size in this months BB5!

From Scratch, Custom Accent Nail Wraps. This set has a see through base with white and gold accents on top. Scratch nail wraps are the best out there, I’ve reviewed them several times in the past and I’m a major fan. I recommend using them over-top of a polish to change up the look to suit your style and I tend to use just a few at a time to make accent nails and make the set last. The set sent is full sized.

From Novex, Bamboo Sprout Deep Conditioning Treatment. This formula is rich, so it’s fabulous for the mid-shaft of the hair to the ends (focus on those ends!). Novex is a brand I’ve used before and have been impressed with so I’m excited to give this version a go!

From Bodipure, Keratin Gloves. I need this so much. SO SO much. Even when it’s not winter my nails, cuticles and hands take a beating. These gloves will nourish all those things. Slip them on and massage. This is a full sized item.

Obviously this month rocked! SIX items, three of which are full sized, all of which are fantastical. Beauty Box 5 just keeps getting better and better!

December 2015 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

The theme for the December 2015 Beauty Box 5 is “Have Yourself a Smoky Holiday Season”. This months box has items to make your eyes smoke, your skin glow and then you can take it all off the lazy way at the end of the night 😉

This month I got…

From OFRA, Shimmer Eye Shadow. The shade shown here is in Millennium Bark and it’s a beautiful, saturated deep brown. You can keep it in the sleeve but it’s easier to use if you can pop it in a case like a Z-Palette. The colors sent out were listed as “assorted”, so if you check out other reviews online you’ll be able to see more shades!

From Prestige Cosmetics, Total Intensity Eyeliner. The shade shown here is in Deepest Black. It’s incredibly soft and as I swatched I broke the tip off. Make sure you press lightly when you use! Don’t worry, you’ll definitely get the pigment you desire! Like the eye shadow the colors of the eye liner sent out are “assorted”.

From The Beauty Crop, Glamazon Stick. A golden glow for anywhere you need it! This shade is smooth and gorgeous. Use it on your brows, cheekbones, liner, lips… it’s good anywhere!

^^^^ these three items are swatched below….

From Beauty Box 5, Blender Brush. With a makeup mantra to live by printed on the side (just keep blending!) this blending brush is good for getting the color in the crease and blending out as needed. I always LOVE when makeup brushes come inside sub boxes!

From So Fresh So Clean, Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. I can never have enough of these. Makeup removing wipes are fabulous for lazy nights when you just can’t bring yourself to scrub everything off at the sink, or for when you need to wipe off a bit before you wash (because a lot of makeup was that necessary to cover all the things). I also like to keep them in my bag when I shop (swatchers hand, anyone?) or to wipe swatches off of my arm as I’m photographing.

This month BB5 really knocked it out of the park. LOOK at everything you got for $12?! PLUS there is a gift card from Hello Fresh for 3 FREE Meals! You’re crazy if you don’t give this subscription box a try.

This month I got…

From La Fresh, good day. day moisturizer. This moisturizer is said to perk up your complexion. I’m having a small breakout on my CHEEK of all places *dies* so I’ve been coated mah face with acne fighting thangs… so I haven’t tried this. But I like things that perk me up so I’ll give it a whirl when my face is under control.

From Kaunis, Facial Mask. Again, breaking out. So I haven’t used this. BUT it’s a sheet mask and I LOVE sheet masks. I’ll try em all. Like with dry shampoos any sub box could send me a sheet mask every month and I’d be so happy.

From Altchek MD, Eye Gel Pads (set of 2). Eye pad gels are something I can never be without, so this is something else I’d love to get every single month! I sit around at night with these on because I get killer under eye circles and bags… plus I’m 35 now and I need all the help I can get 😉

From MOODmatcher, Luxe Twist Stick. I got the color Orange. Before you’re like whaaaaa? note that this shade is not horrifying. It’d one of those ones that reacts with your lips to make a custom color. On me it’s seriously the most gorgeous coral, deepish pink… just freaking gorgeous….the most. Ever. I can’t even talk right now. I’d buy it again and again and it’s only $8 so that’s even better. It’s got a waxy taste but that goes away after a few seconds.

From The All Natural Face, Vegan Matte Cream Lip & Cheek Color in Dusky Rose. Double duty makeup for lips and cheeks! This shade is beautiful for Fall winter and is nice and flat to keep in your smallest lil purse 😉

I love how even when BB5 gives you skin care samples they’re actually ones that I’d use… facial masks and eye pads are my JAM always. And how cool is the MOODmatcher stick?! Though, sometimes, I like to keep my moods hidden… greater good and all 😉

October 2015 BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review

Press Sample

The theme for the October Beauty Box 5 is not anything Halloween related! Instead all of the items are pink and the theme is Need a Little Pink-Me-Up? I love me some Halloween buttttt… you guys I really love the adorable-ness that is this months’ Beauty Box 5!

This month I got…

From Happy Hands, HappyFace Makeup Cleansing Cloth. This cloth is said to remove all of your makeup with JUST WATER. And it’s machine washable aka reusable. I have no idea how long this will last but I’m loving it. It really does remove most of my makeup. I found there was a bit of mascara left over but that’s normal for me. It’s incredibly gentle. IDK how often I’ll use it because I feel like cleansing with my face washes aids in acne control, but for those days when I just don’t wanna it’ll be perfect!

From Ferro Cosmetics, Pink Rhinestone Kabuki Brush. First of all, when I saw this, I didn’t even give a care how well it worked because ADORABLE. I love that it’s soft enough to feel nice but has a firmness to it that makes it wonderful for bronzing.

From Styli-Style, Perfect Pout Long Lasting Balm Stick. The shade I got is in Bold Berry and it’s a creamy, purple toned pink. I adore this formula. It went on so nicely while keeping my lips hydrated and shiny. It wouldn’t have been my shade of choice, but it works for Fall!

From Knotty, Hair Ties. These hair ties are cute to keep around your wrist and work well at keeping the hairs back. I love that they were included in this months box because between my daughter and myself we go through hair ties like bobby pins!

From Nubar, Nail Polish Mini. I love Nubar so I was excited to see this tiny pink bottle! The shade I got is Pinktober. It’s incredibly sheer and took 5 coats to reach the opacity you see below.. which made me sad.

This months box was so wonderful! With the exception of the Nubar Nail Polish all of the items are full sized and worth well over the retail value of this box (that makeup brush alone is $25!). The only thing I’ll be giving away is the nail polish because momma don’t have time for 5 coats. Regardless, still a win!

This month I got…

From Beautiful Nutrition, Lemon Rinse Gentle Clarifying Treatment. I love the smell of lemons so this body wash is amazingggggg. Definitely happy to get this one.

From Elizabeth Mott, Tints & Sass Lip + Cheek Stain. These types of stains are great when you need legit all day wear on your cheeks and lips. For me they always last better on the cheeks, but this is nice to amp up your lip shade also, (swatched below).

From Be a Bombshell Cosmetics, Eye Crayon. I got the shade Amazon which is a beautiful shimmering bright blue. It’s smooth to apply but works best withh a secondary primer underneath to keep it from creasing, (swatched below).

From Bellapierre, Shimmer Powder in Snowflake. This highlighter is wonderful for days when you want a little more glow. I love to use it for occasions like the holidays or New Years.

From Harvey Prince, Sincerely Mini Roller. I’ve been obsessed with Harvey Prince fragrances since I started to get them in beauty boxes. This one smells amazing… orange-y. Perfect for Fall!

This months box had wonderful products and was loaded with value! My personal favorite is the Elizabeth Mott Cheek Stain and the Harvey Prince fragrance. Definitely worth the retail price because of the full sized items and the fact that all of the items are are wonderful!

This month I got…

From Hask Beauty, Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment. Hask is a fabulous brand and I’ve been a fan of their hair products for some time. Assorted packets were sent out and I got the Keratin Protein one, which is perfect for my frizzy, color-treated, damaged hair. Retail price: $2.39 for 1.75 oz.

From Donnamax, Printed Nail File with Case. How fun is this nail file?! I generally use a glass nail file, but this would be great to keep in the car if you’re in a pinch. TBH, and don’t laugh, I’m likely going to use it as a photo prop lol. Retail price: $4.99.

From Pur-lisee, Pur Moist Hydra-Balance Moisturizer. Though we’ve been seeing a lot of Pur-lisse lately in sub boxes I do like the brand. This sample is small, so it makes it hard to review the actual skincare claims, but I will say I like the feel of it and there’s no describable fragrance. It’s also intended for sensitive skin. Retail price: $55.00 for 1.7oz.

From Jerome Alexander, Hot Stuff Go Pop Compacts. Right off I thought it was really cool to see that what was inside of this bold, yellow case was actually a pretty usable palette. Though, you guys know I really hate when my lip palettes mesh with my eye palettes… dust gets in the lip side from the shadow side… my OCD is not okay with that. However, the products inside are very pretty and wearable (if you’re warm toned). The sturdy case and the full mirror make it very travel friendly. The colors that people received are assorted. Retail price: $10.99.

From Starlooks, Luxe Longwear Eyeliner Pen in Plum. This liner applied smoothly and wore nicely all day long. The dark plum shade almost borders brown in color. The big winner in this months shipment! Retail price: $19.99.

This months box was fabulous with an incredible value! Every month BB5 just keeps getting better. I’m particularly impressed with the Starlooks Eyeliner and the Jerome Alexander Compact was a nice touch. Also I’m in love with the nail file design! Definitely worth the retail price because the best items were the full sized items which total to over double what you’ll pay for the box, the eyeliner alone retails for $19.99!
