Makeup Wars – My 2014 Holiday Wish List

Affiliate Links

Just like last year the Makeup Wars Bloggers are putting their biggest wants and desires out there on the interwebs in the hopes that someone we love is peeking and wants to surprise us with some goodies (my mom loves these, so you have to as well)! Last year I kept it mostly beauty centered with a few other must-haves tossed in. I figured this year it would be good to do the same. Who doesn’t love to look at a handbag or two before they get into the lipsticks and liners πŸ˜‰

Bath & Body Works (pricing varies, Bath & Body Works). All the things Holiday. I’m not kidding you guys. Ever since I worked there (that was 10 years ago!) I’ve needed all of the Holiday items. I still freak out over Winter Candy Apple like it’s new. When the 3-wick candles go 2 for $22 (which they are right now) I’m there buying at least six of them to add to my room full of unused candles. Clearly, these are not things I need… but candles and Holiday decor. Yes. You guys know I have a hard time using bubble baths and lotions and things because of the fragrance but I still grab some Winter Candy Apple every year and use it once a week, sparingly. Mostly I’m in love with the home decor type stuff like candle holders and wallflowers… ugh… I’d talk your ear off.

3.1 Philip Lim Pashli Medium Satchel ($895, Shopbop). This is a bag I’ve been looking at a lot. I’ve never really fallen in love with a color until now and that color is Feather (though it’s available in many other shades). I almost bit the bullet during their last sale but 3.1 Philip Lim was excluded so I chickened out. If this doesn’t end up under the tree for me I’m looking to hoard Christmas money for a big purchase after the holidays.

Drybar Big Hair Don’t Care Holiday Kit ($199, Sephora). Do I need a new hair dryer? No. Do I need more brushes or hair product? No. That doesn’t change the fact that I wants it. I almost pulled the trigger during the VIB sale but then I couldn’t do it… because I really don’t need it. However… if someone were to put it under the tree for me… I’d be over the moon!

Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Nail Polish($50, Sephora). I just may be the last person on earth that needs another red nail polish, but you know me… the packaging gets me every time and this one is so iconic!

Sephora Favorites Glitz & Glam Party Essentials Sampler ($45, Sephora). When I was shopping the other day I saw this set and it’s just such a perfect mix of product and I adore the pouch!

Be sure to check out my post on Top 10 Beauty Gift Sets for Holiday for more wish list ideas. What’s on your list this year? Also, have you been naughty or nice? I hear you get more if you’re naughty… πŸ˜‰

Makeup Wars – My Beauty Diary

Affiliate Links

This week for Makeup Wars we decided to do a beauty diary. Basically a “my day in beauty”. I tried to be diligent in writing down what I was using all day, so hopefully I don’t forget anything! Here’s what happens to my face, bod & hair throughout the day (beauty wise!).

Good morning!
I wake up around 7-8am (God willing, sometimes insomnia visits and that becomes around 3am). After my son is out the door I hop in the shower and hit my mug with Murad Clarifying Cleanser and my Clarisonic. I also like to use a lip scrub from LUSH. Currently I’m still using Santa Baby from Christmas. Once or twice a week I exfoliate my face with Kate Somerville ExfoliKate. For the bod I’ve been using Dove Pistachio Cream with Magnolia Body Wash & Body Bar. When shaving happens I generally use Schick Hydro Silk and Skintimate Shave Gel. Hair gets the AMAZE-BALLS OGX Sea Mineral Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner. I haven’t even been using a hair mask once a week, because the OGX is that good.

Out of the bathroom I start by applying Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Acne Treatment Lotion all over my face. Then I apply a spray lotion all over my body – something like the Vaseline Spray & Go or St. Ives Fresh Hydration Spray. The hair gets a generous hit of Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream (starting at the ends and putting very little at the crown) and Agadir Argan Oil at the ends. My fave perfume is Chanel Chance EDT but lately I’m also reaching for Chloe Roses de Chloe.

In the interest of saving time I’ll just go through my daily makeup routine when I’m not actually going anywhere but the store or to pick the kids up from school. Generally (unless something is being tested) I start with the eyes and apply Urban Decay Primer Potion. MAC Utterly Becoming Paint Pot is an excellent base for all things eye balls and on top of that I go easy with Urban Decay Naked Basics or Hourglass Suede Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo. Lately I’ve been getting at my brows with Vincent Longo Eyebrow Micro Pencil and NARS Oural Brow Gel. For a liner I reach for something neutral like Marc Jacobs Ro(Cocoa), Urban Decay Hustle or MUFE Aqua Eyes in 24L. Mascara is usually IT Cosmetics Tightline and/or Milani Total Lash Cover. Face Makeup is IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye/Hello Light Liquid Brightener and IT Cosmetics Full Coverage CC+ Cream. On the cheeks I’m using NARS Olympia for contouring and one of the six Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes. For my lips, when it’s just an easy day like this, it’s always some sort of sheer-semi sheer gloss like my current fave YSL Gloss Volupte in Golden (20).

Through the day…
During the day I usually just touch up as needed. Generally that just means a dusting of IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation on the nose and reapplying gloss. More often than not, though, I just end up slicking on Jack Black Lip Balm (of which I’m obsessed with).

Nighty Night!
The makeup removal process is quick for me. I remove my eye makeup with MAC Gently Off Eye & Lip Remover. My makeup is removed by using Murad Clarifying Cleanser & the Clarisonic. Lately I’ve been obsessively staring at wrinkles by my eyes, so I start out my skincare regime with Le Metier de Beaute Revive Eye Concentrate and then I smooth on StriVectin SD Advanced. Because that isn’t moisturizing enough for me in the evening I also use Kate Somerville Oil-Free Moisturizer. I can’t fall asleep with dry lips so I always dab on a bit of LUSH Honey Trap Lip Balm. I also check for stray eye brow hairs that managed to pop up and get at them with my Tweezerman Tweezers.

After all of that I settle down to watch a show and slather on some LUSH Lemony Flutter & pop on my gloves.

I seriously didn’t feel high maintenance about myself until I wrote this post. Tell me I’m not alone!

BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review – January 2014

Press Sample

The theme for the January 2014 Beauty Box 5 is Cheers to You!

The products in this box will aid you in the physical “new you” – scrub, cleanse and moisturize to feel bright, shiny and smooth!

From H2O Plus, Spa Sea Lotus Body Wash. This wash is yummy for both men and women alike! It smells wonderful and refreshing, slightly floral yet not overpowering.

From Swissco, Bath & Shower Exfoliating Gloves. Great to wear and easily slough off dead skin cells without missing a beat. The gloves are soft but lightly textured. They feel so good on the skin, not rough and definitely get the job done.

From Jergens, Daily Moisturizer. After you exfoliate you must moisturize! This smells wonderful and clean. Easy to smooth on and absorbs quickly.

From Nubar, Cuticle & Nail Oil. I go through cuticle oil so quickly I might as well just drink it. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried the Nubar before this BB5 shipment, but it works just as well as all of my other favorites, conditioning and hydrating the cuticles. It also smells so good!

From Epic Blend, Hemp Coconut Lip Balm. I can never have enough lip balm. It’s stashed all over my house, car and in all of my purses. I can’t stand having dry lips, there’s really nothing worse. This particular lip balm smells great to me and makes me feel beachy with that coconut smell. It slicks on well and is plenty moisturizing without being goopy.

As an added bonus this month there is a mirrored compact branded with “That Awkward Moment” starring my soon-to-be boyfriend (hehe) Zac Efron – in theaters January 31.

I thought this box was a great mix of nail, skin and body care. While I was disappointed that there weren’t any makeup items this month, I was still pleased because these are all items I’ll definitely get use out of. Based off of this box it’s clear that the service is worth the $12.00 price tag. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for February!

What is Beauty Box 5Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription service that is curated by a team of beauty experts. With each shipment you’ll receive 5 samples for $12.00 (monthly). You can also choose to save some cash and sign up for $30.00 and be billed quarterly or $99.00 and be billed yearly. Top 10 Things That Live in My Shower

There is a lot of product in my shower. But, not all of it has a permanent place there, making it easier than I thought to pick out the

Top 10 Items That Live in My Shower

  1. Shampoo/Conditioner. This is obviously a given. Shampoos and Conditioners are constantly rotating through, but currently I’m trying to finish up the Christophe Hydrating Shampoo & Condtioner. Why is the Shampoo so much lower? My hubby has also been using it once or twice a week because he said it smells good and makes his hair soft. Adorable.
  2. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate. I’m pretty big on everything Kate Somerville has to offer and use the skincare as well. I also rotate and use the Light Skin Peel from Reviva Labs but I forgot to grab it for the pic.
  3. LUSH Mint Julips. This lip scrub is terrifyingly yummy and is gentle & amazing.
  4. LUSH Fair Trade Honey. I randomly like to use this when I feel like my hair needs some extra sort of love. This product is intended for moisture and luster.
  5. LUSH R & B. This stands for Revive & Balance. I use this on the ends of my hair when I do the Fair Trade Honey for some deep conditioning. I leave it in for a few minutes than rinse it out, but if your hair needs major moisture you can also just leave the product in.
  6. Body Wash. This is in two parts, because I have two and don’t want to exclude haha. Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint Stress Relief . The name pretty much says it all. I worked at Bath & Body Works about 7 or 8 years ago and have been using this ever since. B – Olay Body Wash. This smells amazing and is so moisturizing. I love how it feels and always make sure that I have a bottle on hand.
  7. Eye Makeup Remover. Usually I just keep a small sample size in there (right now it’s that little Chanel bottle). I wash my makeup off at night but sometimes I like to make sure it’s completely off, or if I shower at night (rare, but it happens) I don’t want to have to worry about grabbing my big bottle of remover.
  8. Murad Clarifying Cleanser. This I use morning and night with my Clarisonic, which I also forgot to picture here because it’s charging, but it also lives in my shower.
  9. Schick Hydro Silk Razor. This has been my razor of choice for over a year. I can’t say enough good things about this product!
  10. Wide Tooth Comb. Everyone should have one of these in their shower to comb conditioner through your hair. A must have so that my hair isn’t a mass of tangles when I get out.

I also have a Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint Soap, LUSH Porridge Soap and Safeguard Soap that I rotate around to whatever I’m feeling like, but I thought it might be gross to picture soaps that I used =P If you want to see it because you’re curious like that or have a fetish let me know and I can Instagram it.

Ah, crap, I forgot to grab my shaving cream too. This post could really be never-ending….

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Products That Live in My Shower! Check out what the other bloggers love to use and tell us what your faves are!

Transition Into Fall With LUSH Labor Day Essentials

With the end of summer in full effect,

is easing the transition with oceanic-inspired goodies –

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel, Seanik, Oceanic Salt Face and Body Scrub,

Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel ($9.95 for 3.3oz/$17.95 for 8.8oz/$27.95 for 16.9oz) is perfect for the last of the hot days because this menthol and spearmint gel is like a shower in a mountain spring; and leaves your skin cool as a cucumber.

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel has a great, minty, manly scent. I did test this on myself, but TBH I would expect my husband to wear a scent like this more than I would. I found that the gel made my skin feel soft and the scent lingered. The perfect gift for your man πŸ˜‰

Give your locks some love with this seaweed and sea salt packed puck!  Seanik ($10.95) softens hair and pumps up the volume as it nourishes. The exotic fragrance of mimosa, orange blossom absolute and jasmine will transport your senses to an exotic island.

Seanik is a solid shampoo that surprisingly gave a nice lather and rinsed out well. This provides a decent amount of volume and the scent is amazing. I wasn’t expecting to love this product as much as I do!

Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub

Invigorate and exfoliate skin with the cream-based Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub ($19.95 for 4.2oz/$34.95 for 8.8oz). We added both coarse and fine sea salts for extra scrubbing power and the granules of salt contain minerals beneficial to the skin. Organic avocado butter, nutritious seaweed absolute and cocoa butter leave skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturized.

Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub had me at vodka. They say that alcohol can be dehydrating, but when you give LUSH the vodka and they work it together with their other amazing ingredients… well… the magic happens. The scent is amazing, long-lasting, and not over-powering. I used this in the evening and the next day I was getting comments on how great I smelled. (What, like I stink usually?!) The granules are a little large and rough, so I don’t think that this would be a good product for my face, as it can be very sensitive. It’s perfect for the body, though, leaving skin soft and supple.

Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner

You might be surprised by this, but sea water is actually good for your skin! It’s why LUSH put real sea water from the shores of the Pacific Ocean in our Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner ($8.95 for 3.3oz/$19.95 for 8.4oz) as it hydrates and balances skin.

Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner can be sprayed directly on the face, or on a cotton ball to swipe off lingering makeup or dirt. I’ve tried both ways, and while the spray really is a nice and refreshing mist, I’d rather use the cotton ball with this product so that I feel it’s getting the job done better. That being said, it would be an excellent facial mist if you just need a pick me up. Even with this product not being kept in the refrigerator it felt nice and cool on my face, and smells wonderful.

Pick up your LUSH Labor Day essentials online at ( USA can click here) or at your local LUSH retailer. US residents can click here to find the location nearest you.

Bath and Body Works PARIS AMOUR Body Lotion Photos & Review

I’m a Bath and Body Works girl from way back. So much so that I actually worked there before I had my kids. If you think it’s hard to resist all of those awesome smells and ridiculously beautiful Halloween, Fall, and Holiday displays, try working there! I definitely spent more money than I made. To this day, Bath and Body Works is the first place I go for my holiday goods… and that’s not just because it launched in July/August πŸ˜‰ hehe

My favorite scent from Bath and Body Works has pretty steadily been Cucumber Melon. I tend to float towards clean or fruity scents. Because of this I was a little skeptical when first using Paris Amour Body Lotion.

(click pics to enlarge and see ingredients list)

Paris Amour

is part of the

Signature Collection

, and is one of the newer scents (August 2011) at

Bath and Body Works

. The back of the bottle states it’s a

“beautiful blend of French tulips, apple blossoms, and sparkling pink champagne”

. One word plopped into my head. Floral. When I worked at

there was this old scent called Peony, which was a strong floral. I HATED it. And, of course, little girls would come in, see the pink bottle, and spray it all over the place. It got the point when I saw them start to come in (sans parents, of course =\) I would dive on the Peony tester and hide that sucker. Worst. Scent. Ever. It’s no longer available, and that’s the best decision BBW could have ever made.

And, now my rant has sent me off track lol

Gingerly, I screwed open the bottle, to take my first whiff of Paris Amour. Hmmmm not bad. At first whiff it smells sweet, and hints at floral. The sweet is what is intriguing. The scent isn’t over-powering, and once you apply it the smell of the Shea Butter actually takes over and it becomes much more clean.

I REALLY love this. It smells amazing and contains not only the Shea Butter, but also Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E. That means it’s very moisturizing, which I need, especially with Fall/Winter nearing. Even though it’s extremely moisturizing, it’s not greasy at all, and soaks quickly into the skin.

What really makes me happy, is that this does not give me a headache. SO MANY scents are way too strong, resulting in an immediate headache. It’s hard to find a smell that you love and that makes you want to keep smelling yourself (that sounded gross, but you know what I mean! haha). I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of the Paris Amour Collection next time I’m at BBW.

Bath and Body Works Body Lotion retails for $10.50 and you can buy it at your local Bath and Body Works store or online at Right now the Signature Collection is buy 3, get 2 free – which is an AWESOME deal and there is always a coupon floating around too.

Lush MINT JULIPS Lip Scrub Photos and Review

I rarely review bath and body products. It’s not that I don’t adore them, it’s just hard for me to describe I guess. Plus, I tend to react to fragranced items. I’m not sure what my skin doesn’t like, but I cannot put any sort of lotion on my body except Aveeno. I spray my perfume on my clothes and hair. It is what it is =(

I’ve always had positive experiences with the LUSH brand. They use fresh and organic products to create their items and everything always smells totally yum.
I’m a HUGE die hard fan of their Porridge Soap. I die for it.

Today, I’m here to talk to you about a new item I’m trying from them. The Lush Mint Julip Lip Scrub.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub is intoxicating to rub on. Not only does it smell like Girl Scount Thin Mint Cookies, but the granules are so massaging it almost puts you in a trance while scrubbing. You just need a very little bit, I only used what you see on my finger in the pic above and it covered my lips and then some.

This product left my lips feeling silky smooth and ready for lipstick. The product is gritty, so my lips did look a bit irritated right after wiping off, but after about 10 minutes it all calms down and you’re ready to go.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub retails for $8.95 (hello, super affordable!) and is available at LUSH locations (which around here only seem to be inside of Macy’s) and (my site is Lush USA, but if you’re from another country they also have more listed).
