bareMinerals Pop of Passion™ Lip Oil-Balm Swatches + Review

Rarely does a bareMinerals product stop me in my tracks. For the most part I can’t wear any of their loose powder or liquid products. They just completely sink in and disappear on my oily skin. I do enjoy their pressed shadows but lately I haven’t stopped at the shelves to peek. When the display of the bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm($16.00 // Sephora) appeared (which was awhile ago… I’m behind on posting this!) I knew some of these had to be mine.

The packaging color matches the interior shade of the lipstick (so it’ll be pink, red, orange…etc) and the tubes are rounded and medium-sized (a little slimmer than a lipstick tube, but not as thin as some other similar looking lipsticks).

Of the 8 shades available I picked up two of them in Rose Passion(deep blush) and Candy Pop(neon pink).

These balms are incredibly moisturizing but not oily (don’t let that word fool you!). They give my lips a literal pop of color that isn’t over done at all, but rather glossy and not-completely opaque (in a good way, promise). I’m loving the two shades I grabbed and I’m definitely going to pick up a few more soon!

bareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation & Bareskin Perfecting Face Brush Swatches + Review

The latest foundation from bareMinerals is the bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 and it’s available in 20 shades. The shade used below for testing/swatching purposes is Bare Shell 02. In regards to the shade I didn’t really feel it matched me so well, I was between that one and the next shade up, but a Sephora employee convinced me this one was better. After wearing it I wish I’d have gone with my gut… live and learn!

Starting off with the foundation – I love the packaging and the way it’s dispensed, just be sure to shake it well before you squeeze out the product. I found the consistency of the formula to be on the watery side and very thin. It definitely did not provide the coverage that I look for (and absolutely require) in a foundation. Unfortunately, and I know a lot of you guys love this one, it just didn’t do it for me. No coverage at all and I became almost immediately shiny. When I tried to apply more product, even after waiting a few minutes, my face looked streaky. No bueno.

The bareSkin® Perfecting Face Brush is very different from the other foundation brushes out there. It has a small head with a circular well in the middle where you can place a two drops (sheer coverage) or more (for more coverage) of foundation in to buff onto your entire face. I usually use a larger, flat kabuki for this type of work, so I was more than a little skeptical on the brush. I wasn’t a fan of the foundation with this brush, though I wasn’t a fan of the foundation with ANY brush. However, using my usual foundations from IT Cosmetics I was really enjoying how it applied to my face. The brush is definitely a keeper!

July 2014 ipsy Glam Bag Review & Swatches

The theme for the July 2014 ipsy Glam Bag is Sensationally Sunkissed. I am heavily obsessed with three of the items I got in this months bag and excited to put one of the other two to good use. I guess what I’m trying to say is… it’s another awesome month for ipsy! Minus, of course, the dud I got. There’s always gotta be a bad apple, y’all!

This month the bag was a beautiful shade of blinding neon pink with rounded/scalloped edges. Personally I thought it looked cheap and somewhat (forgive me) like it was made in a sweat shop. I dug the color, but the style of the bag looked low. I gave it to my daughter and this bag is now home to her babydolls dirty diapers. Her words, not mine =\

What’s inside?

From Clear Clinic Laboratories, Vanished Clear Spot Treatment. Just the name boasts that this stuff does a lot. Right off you can smell the alcohol permeating out of this bottle. Before I even looked at the ingredients I knew there was alcohol in this. Boom, first ingredient listed is isopropyl alcohol. And next is water. It’s diluted alcohol with a bit of some other acne fighting stuff in it. Of course that’s going to dry out your acne, though not necessarily in the best way. I didn’t use this because I have things that work well for me and aren’t as harsh. Plus the smell was very strong and gave me an immediate migraine.

From Models Own, Nail Polish in Red Sea. I feel like if you just look at the swatch photo below this will go without saying… but this nail polish is GORGEOUS. So gorgeous that I had to type the first gorgeous in all caps. The base is an opaque neon red jelly and it’s got flakies! I’m in love, lust and everything in between. Two coats.

From Pur-lisse, pur~protect essential daily moisturizer spf 30. Some people might think it’s lame to get a small SPF moisturizer like this, but I keep these little ones in my purse because sometimes I forget to moisturize in the morning and if I’m out and about and I remember I can pop this on. In the summer-time it’s also good to remember to use a hand cream with SPF, because your hands get old a lot faster than you’d think. Protect ya’self.

From Pixi Beauty, Mini Tinted Brilliance Balm. The shade I got is in Unique Pink. It’s very sheer but really works to give the lips a moisturized and healthy appearance. Love the product and it’s the perfect size to keep in my pocket!

From bareMinerals, 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15. A ridiculously long name but it is worthy. The shade I got is in Barely Nude and can I just say, it’s perfect. It makes a lovely base for shadows or even to wear on it’s own. The formula is easy to apply and creamy, lasting all day without creasing. I will definitely be going out to buy a full size of this and a few of the other shades!

I was really happy with the contents of months ipsy bag (I’ve decided to not count the actual bag). Three of the five products are major wins for me and I’ll use 4 of the 5 products included in some way. Even though I thought the bag holding everything was not for me the contents were obviously still worth more than $10.00.

Ipsy does profile pages now, so here is mine. There is also a pretty amazing referral program in place. You refer friends and redeem points to get a sweet little bonus in your next bag. I’ve gotten some really fab full sized products as my bonuses, but, something new, you can use your points to choose your own bonus! I cashed in back in November for a full size NYX Cosmetics Bronze Smokey Look Kit (see photos and swatches here). This month I traded in for two Revlon Colorburst lippies I’d been eying:

Here is where you can go to subscribe to ipsy for a Glam Bag.

What do you think about the July Glam Bag? Are you going to subscribe for August? I’m really excited to see what they have in store!
