Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid – Beauty Edition

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

The PANTONE Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid. But you knew that. What may be a bit confusing are all of the “variations” of Radiant Orchid. PANTONE lists the color as “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones”. So, while the swatch in the link may look rather mid-tone lilac to you (confession, it does to me) that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to stick 100% to the picture. As some brands have shown, the Radiant Orchid color is loosely interpreted. Which brings me to today’s post – Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid.

Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With OrchidNow, normally I’m a little too gung-ho with the limited edition high-end products, so for this post I made sure to incorporate very affordable slash accessible but accurate ways to get that Radiant Orchid look.

Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid 2In no particular order:

  1. Wet N Wild. For a long time WnW has proven they’re in it to win it in a big way. While still remaining extremely affordable the quality has skyrocketed making them a major leader in the land of drugstore makeup. Some of my picks for the Radiant Orchid Category are the Petal Pusher Eyeshadow Palette and V.I.Pink Perfect Pout Lip Color.
  2. Pixi Beauty. Orchid Petal Tinted Brilliance Balm & Paradise Pink Nail Polish are the perfect duo for making a Radiant Orchid statement on your nails and keeping your lips demure.
  3. CoverGirl. I got to try out the Flamed Out Shadow Pots while I was #NAILGATING and I loved the formula! Of course for the Radiant Orchid post I needed to get my hands on 340 Blazing Purple, which, IMO, is dead on for the actual shade of RO.
  4. Beauty Addicts. This brand was a hidden gem for me. I got a few products sent over recently and thought they were absolutely perfect for the Radiant Orchid post. SolutionEYES in Motivate Eyeshadow Quad and Lip Addiction in Tease & Fierce are now some of my favorite shades of purples, and will be even beyond 2014!
  5. Eddie Funkhouser. Two of my recently reviewed items from Eddie are totally applicable to this Radiant Orchid trend. Be sure to click the link to see how to get the look using Bedroom Eyes Hyperreal Eye Color Palette & Peep Show Ultra Intensity Cheek Color.
  6. Pop Beauty. Peony Petal may be a bit deeper than what you’d think of for Radiant Orchid, but I totally think it belongs within the category. It’s got that purpley pink mix to it, and a wide variety of people can pull it off!
  7. Laura Mercier. Pink Prism probably looks super bold in the tube, BUT on the lips it’s subtle and shiny with a hint of the beauty of Radiant Orchid.
  8. China Glaze. Of course, every brand will have at the very least one shade (likely many shades) that will be able to be placed in the Radiant Orchid category. China Glaze came to mind because I just swatched The Sea Goddess Collection and Wish on a Starfish and Tail Me Something could easily fall into this line up.
  9. Marc Jacobs. The Tease 202 Style Eye-Con No.7 – Plush Shadow immediately came to mind (it’s not pictured, I’m in the middle of moving into an in home office space and a lot of palettes are piled up in a cabinet). As you can tell, if you clicked the link, this is full of variations of Radiant Orchid.

I’m kind of wanting that liquid eyeliner

What’s nice about the 2014 Color of the Year is that the variations make it possible for everyone to find a flattering shade. Warm and Cool Toned alike, you can all wear Radiant Orchid.

You’ll see me post a lot of high end and expensive items here (i.e. on this blog).  I just can’t stay away from pretty and shiny.  Beauty Bloggers in general (not all, but most!) have the same problem.  That’s why, for this Top 10 Tuesday, we’re bringing you our Top 10 Beauty Items Under $10!

10In no particular order:

  1. TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Collection.  I love to use the shampoo and conditioner for daily hair washing.  When I’m not testing something this is generally what I’ll go back to for healthy hair ($3.99 each).
  2. CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara.  If you’re going to go drugstore for mascara, this is the one to do it with.  This one retails for only $8.99!
  3. Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner.  Brushed Pewter is a fave shade of mine.  It goes on SO well and is that perfect color of being blue-ish grey without the harsh intensity.  A lovely every day shade for when you’re sick of black or brown.  This liners will only run you $7.49 each!
  4. OPI Nail Lacquer.  These are beautiful and long-lasting nail polishes in every color you can imagine for only $9.00 each!  In the latest collection OPI takes us to San Francisco!
  5. Zoya Nail Polish.  Beautiful shades named after beautiful ladies!  The colors are innovative, safe and they last.  The retail is $8.00 each, but Zoya is always offering deals and discounts!  One of the latest collections is Zoya Cashmeres, but they’re also gaining a lot of buzz from PixieDust!
  6. L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss.  These glosses ($7.99 each) are an easy and inexpensive way to shine up your pucker without it feeling sticky or goopy.
  7. L’Oreal 24hr Infallible Eye Shadows.  It’s likely I own 85% of these.  I just love to use them for eyeshadow bases and they are so silky to touch.  They feel luxurious but will only run you $7.99 each.
  8. Wet n Wild Beauty Eyeshadow Palettes.  This brand has really upped their game since I was in high school, even launching a collection with Fergie!  My faves are the Trio Eyeshadows ($2.99 each) and the 8 pan Collection Eyeshadows ($4.99 each).  Also be sure to check out their Mega Last Lip Color ($2.99 each)!
  9. Aveeno Skin Relief Fragrance Free Moisturizing Lotion.  The retail on this is $9.99 and it’s gotten me through some rough times.  No pun intended.  For awhile, I couldn’t put anything with fragrance on my skin.  I would get horrible rashes and have to go to the doctor to get meds.  This lotion (before blogging and learning about some other brands that also work for me) was the only thing I could use to moisturize.  It’s still also the least expensive solution.
  10. Subscription Boxes.  Yes, I’m serious.  $10 can get you a whole SLEW of items to play with and try out.  Subscription Boxes can be a gamble, but I’ve found that the ipsy Glam Bag has the best items and value, while Birchbox has the best referral/rewards system.

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Beauty Items Under $10!  Check out what the other bloggers love and be sure to tell us what your faves are!

Makeup Wars ~ My Holiday Beauty Wish List

The Makeup Wars Bloggers decided it would be a smart move to do up our Holiday wish lists.  Basically, if any family or friends are reading this and want to tell Santa so I have a little surprise under the tree… you won’t hear me complain.  I might even have a smooch waiting under the mistletoe for anyone thinking of me!

I thought it would be a good idea to pick some “wants” at several price points… just in case my hubby or someone else who loves me equally as much is checking this out!  Keeping it tame, this is just beauty items.  If I would have dove into handbag, shoes, jewelry… well, we’d have been here all day.

  1. Tarte Carried Away Collector’s Set ($54.00).  This set from Tarte has is ALL.  It’s so beautiful and clearly necessary for all of your beauty needs and wants!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  2. OCC Pro’s Picks Lip Tar Set ($49.00).  I own nothing from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and I’m DYING to.  This set is the perfect opportunity!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  3. Make Up For Ever Be Your Own Make Up Artist Station ($950.00).  Let’s just be honest, who DOESN’T want this?  At that price point it’ll very likely never happen for me, but I can dream!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  4. Burberry Complete Eye Palette ($59.00).  I’ll take any of them, but the one pictured, Dark Spice, is my top choice.  Photo courtesy of Nordstrom.com.
  5. Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Shadow in Rose Gold ($24.00).  I love the style of the shadow pan and the shade just looks stunning!  Photo courtesy of NeimanMarcus.com.
  6. Estee Lauder Michael Kors Set ($38.50).  This one is tricky, you can only purchase it with an Estee Lauder Fragrance purchase.  I cannot stand EL fragrance and I don’t know anyone to give it to if I bought it.  So go buy yourself some perfume and then get me this Michael Kors set!  Different sets are available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards, Macys and EsteeLauder.com.  I’ll take any of them.  Photo courtesy of Nordstrom.com.
  7. MAC Hang Up the Glamour Hanging Travel Bag ($40.00).  It’s leopard on the outside, lacy looking on the inside and securely holds all of our travel junkies with style.  Hook me up.  Photo courtesy of maccosmetics.com.
  8. Bare Escentuals The Star Treatment Set ($40.00).  I love the pressed shadows from this brand, and the shades in this palette are right up my alley!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  9. MAC Making Pretty Brush Set for Face & Eye ($100.00).  I obviously don’t NEED this, but its so pretty and chic… I just want it to look at it.  I’d never buy it for myself, but would loveeee to have it as a gift!  Photo courtesy of maccosmetics.com.
  10. Le Metier de Beaute CHEM60 Pro-Peel and GLOW10ai Mask Set ($265.00)  I am so totally addicted to this.  It’s easy to do, safe and it works!  You can check out my experience with this product by clicking here.  Photo courtesy of NeimanMarcus.com.

Oh, drugstore beauty, I haven’t forgotten about you!

  1. Cover Girl Clump Crusher LashBlast Mascara.  I’ve heard great things from fellow bloggers.  Photo courtesy of Ulta.com where this product is currently buy one get one half off.
  2. Wet N Wild ColorIcon Eight Pan Eyeshadow Palette Collection.  I’d love the two palettes I don’t have that released with Holiday 2012 (I think the matte one, Drinking a Glass of Shine, was released before as I <3 Matte) in Sparkle ‘Til Morning & Shimmer the Night Away (see pics at Nouveau Cheap).
  3. L’Oreal Project Runway Electric Fantasie Collection.  Any and all of it.  We’ve been ripe with sickness here so I haven’t really been out and about to get any pieces =( See photos at Musings of a Muse.
  4. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips.  I always see these and always want to try them out.  The colors just look so pretty sitting by each other.  The set shown above is in Nude.  Photo courtesy of PhysiciansFormula.com.

See what the other participants in this installment of Makeup Wars came up with!  What WILL we think of next?!

Makeup Wars – $20 Face Challenge

I’m the worst kind of procrastinator.  I’ll know about something, and be crazy excited for it… and then last minute I’m all “oh, snap… need to get that done.”

For the $20 face challenge for this installment of Makeup Wars I had it in my head right away that I wanted to do my whole look using Wet N Wild.  They are a solid drugstore brand, beyond affordable, and most of the products I’ve tried are high quality.  Very little let down for the price.  I stalked ads, knew where, when and what the deals were… and totally effed up.  I’m talking I forgot (mommy brain does that) and literally just now ran to Wal-Mart to get what I’d need.

I kept it under $20, but I only have FIVE products here … some will be pulling double and maybe triple duty.  I have NO idea if the foundation is a match.  None.  No clue if this mascara will make my eyes rain.  No idea if this bronzer will be my friend =(

For this battle, we’re checking out to see if we can do a full face of makeup for $20 or less.  This is probably the most difficult thing in the WORLD for me, beauty wise.  I’m a HORRIBLE sale shopper, I hate to hunt for things.  I’m no good at it.

Unfortunately, I missed out on any and all sales and deals, so here is what I ended up with for my challenge:

All by Wet N Wild:

  1. Ultimate Match SPF15 Liquid Foundation in 857A Sand Sable – $4.97
  2. Coloricon Bronzer SPF15 in 740 Bikini Contest – $3.97
  3. MegaProtein Mascara – $1.97
  4. Coloricon Eyeshadow Trio in 335 Silent Treatment – $2.97
  5. MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in 570A Berry Burst – $1.97

Grand Total – $15.85 (with 7% tax it’s $16.96)

Seriously, you guys… that’s all I got LMAO omg… I have a freaking Big Lots in the plaza right across the street… wtf is wrong with me.  If I could go back… with the few extra dollars, I would have picked up a brow pencil.  And possibly a powder to mattify myself more…  All around, time to learn some money and time management!

Anyway, if ANYTHING this will show you how you can use just a few products for multiple things.  And I was actually pretty happy with the end result… tho the foundation isn’t a match at ALL and my brows are hilarious.

Let’s start off with swatches:

(L-R: Ultimate Match SPF15 Liquid Foundation in 857A Sand Sable, Coloricon Bronzer SPF15 in 740 Bikini Contest, Silent Treatment Trio, MegaProtein Mascara, MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Berry Burst)

Now for the face.

For this look, I started by applying the Ultimate Match Liquid Foundation all over my face.  Next I took the bronzer and a prayer and bronzed myself up, concentrating on contouring.  Next, using the Silent Treatment Trio, I did a smoky eye with the Taupe on the lid, the deep black brown middle shade in the crease/outer V and the bone shade to highlight.  I also used that dark middle shade as an eye liner and mixed the same shade with the bone shade to try and make my brows look presentable.  To finish up the eyes I used the MegaProtein Mascara.  Lastly I put on one of my favorite lip glosses, the MegaSlicks in Berry Burst.

In the end, I obviously love Silent Treatment and Berry Burst… since I already owned them lol but I adore the bronzer and even the foundation was pretty nice (now I just need to find my actual shade!).  I would also repurchase the mascara in a pinch.

Hopefully you enjoyed my submission for this installment of Makeup Wars!  To go to the previous or next installment, please use the graphic at the top of this post!

Wet N Wild IT’S A GIRL, PINK CHAMPAGNE, PEACHY KEEN, RING AROUND THE ROSY Mega Shield Lip Color SPF15 Swatches and Review

My first purchase of the Wet N Wild Mega Shield Lip Color SPF15 in Salsa Lessons was such a hit I couldn’t help but buy four more shades!  With the price being so amazing, I was looking to get more, but the local displays of this product have remained rather empty.  The four shades I chose, It’s A Girl!, Pink Champagne, Peachy Keen, and Ring Around the Rosy, were found after stopping at three locations.  So I probably spent more in gas than I did on the makeup lol

What the Wet N Wild website has to say about Mega Shield Lip Color:

Color, comfort, and care! Luxurious color delivers hours of sheer-to-moderate coverage that glides on buttery-soft for a smooth, moist-looking pout. Lips are pampered with Vitamin E, Amino Acids, Avocado Oil, and Rice Bran Oil that moisturize and condition for silky, soft comfort. And with SPF 15, lips are cared for and protected from harmful UVB rays.

(all pics can be clicked to enlarge them to their full size!)

It’s A Girl

It’s A Girl! is a mid-tone blue-pink frost.  This shade almost borders on too frosty, but there is something about it that I like.

Pink Champagne

Pink Champagne is an extremely frosty, medium mauve-pink.  Very 80′s workout video.

Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen is a bronzed peach frost.  I rather like this one, because it’s not so icy that it’s garish and allows for a hint of gold.

Ring Around the Rosy

Ring Around the Rosy is a creamy raisin shade.  My favorite of the four shown here!

Overall, The pigmentation is amazing and the feel is smooth and moisturizing.  This isn’t like a lip balm, this is a thick shade that will cover your lips but not cake off.   They’ll last a few hours (a little longer than a lustre lipstick but not as long as a matte shade) and are unscented.  I prefer the creamier ones to the frostier, but they all are high-performing.

For those of you looking for a top notch and EXTREMELY affordable lip product you are going to want to pick up a few of the Mega Shield Lip Color.

Wet N Wild Mega Shield Lip Color retail for $2.99 each.  Some have had an instant $1.00 off coupon on it, but I’ve only seen that at CVS.  14 of these shades have been released and I see all of them in my not so distant future.
