My hair pledge is to do my hair as much as I do my makeup! As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy and habit to just throw my hair up on top of my head. So, here I am running around in a full face of makeup with scraggle hair. My pledge only takes an extra 20 minutes out of my day to blow dry and flat iron myself into something presentable. DO-ABLE! With the 21 products provided by ULTA Beauty, I chose my faves and did three hair looks.


Look 1: For this look I used Rusk Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, Conair You Style Hair Dryer, Hot Tools Nano Ceramic 1/2″ Flat Iron, Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray, Matrix Biolage Style Mousse and Kenra Volume Spray.

On the first day I wanted to start simply and just basically do what I’d normally do but amp it up. I washed my hair using the Rusk Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, which smelled like grapefruits and had an excellent lather. The conditioner is technically a leave-in, but my hair tends to look weighed down, so I rinsed it out after leaving it in for a few minutes. I dried using the Conair You Style Hair Dryer, which dried my hair fast and had a gentle blast. After that I put in Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray then flat ironed with the Hot Tools Nano Ceramic 1/2″ Flat Iron (which is mini and perfect for getting those hard to handle flyaways or would be amazing for short hair). Finishing off, I added in the Matrix Biolage Style Mousse and Kenra Volume Spray, which added thickness and volume to my hair.

 

Look 2: For this look I used Schwarzkoff Professional: Osis + Mattifying Powder, Conair More Big Curls Hairsetter and Redken Control Addict 28.

On the second day I wanted to definitely test out how the mattifying powder worked. I have such problems finding a product that will actually suck the grease out of my roots. The Schwarzkoff Professional: Osis + Mattifying Powder does the job tenfold. With this, I found it’s best to tap a little in your hands and work through your roots. After I rolled up my hair with the Conair More Big Curls Hairsetter and left them in for about 20 minutes. Upon taking them out I flipped my head over and spritzed in some Redken Control Addict 28 and voila. Volume. Normally, if I don’t wash my hair every day, it’s flat as a pancake and basically pretty disgusting. Between the Mattifying Powder and Hot Rollers…we’re in business.

 

Look 3 For this look I used the ABBA Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner, Big Sexy Hair Root Pump, TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out Straightening Cream and the Hot Tools Cheetah 1″ Tapered Iron.

This was my fave look because it was so bombshell and really very different for what I do on an every day basis. The ABBA Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner smell AMAZING. The Shampoo had an excellent lather and the scent was energizing and minty. While my hair was still damp I put in the TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out Straightening Cream because my hair is so frizzy I had to straighten it a bit before I went ahead and curled it. I know…it’s a rough life. With the Big Sexy Hair Root Pump, I simply flipped my head over and sprayed, then after I curled and sprayed it again just sort of around my head using it as a hair spray. Those curls lasted all day, through heavy wind. Amaze. The Hot Tools Cheetah 1″ Tapered Iron is the stuff dreams are made of. It includes a glove so you won’t burn yourself and curling my hair was quick and easy.

  3. Using a Sultra Buombshell Oval Curling Iron, create waves on the lower two-thirds of the hair.
  4. Apply a generous amount of hardwear 16 super strong gel to the front 2-3 inches of hair, slicking back with fingers, leaving the forehead exposed.
  5. Spray top third of style with forceful 23 super-strength finishing spray, concentrating on the crown, and use the blow-dryer once again on the front 2-3 inches of hair to really set the style

Redken Creative Consultant Guido, always looking to put a new spin on the ponytail, created a futuristic, modern interpretation of one at the Alexander Wang Spring 2013 show on Saturday. The style was sleek and even robotic in front, but the back was all natural, disheveled texture with a bit of a wave.

 ”I’m always challenging myself to update classics, and the look at Alexander Wang today is a ponytail with a different point of view. Alex wanted a small head this season, so this started as a low pony kept close to the head. But I then added a strip of tape down the center part which makes the style really become more than a simply pony. The severity of the tape almost makes you look twice – which makes sense with the collection.”

  1. On damp hair, create a center part that’s clean but not perfectly straight.

Create the Look:

  1. Create a clean center part on damp hair.
  2. Blow dry just the top section of hair to just behind the ear, then spray water on the back to re-dampen & let dry naturally.
  3. Spray the hairline with forceful 23 hairspray to smooth & hold.
  4. Apply shine flash 02 glistening mist on the top of head.
  5. Use lots of powder refresh 01 dry shampoo on the bottom third of hair to get a light fluffy  effect.

The smooth, straight look was all about minimalism, a look fitting to the American sportswear that ultimately defines the Diesel atheistic.
“This is a simple style, but it’s perfectly executed in a very polished way. It’s healthy hair with a bit of shine. Even though the style seems minimal, if one like this is done completely right, it ultimately elevates the whole look and becomes something more special. And it’s very American, very New York. I always say the hair in New York, as opposed to in Milan or Paris, is always hair women really do end up wearing.”

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a carefree, youthful style to complement the patterned turban-like head scarves at the Spring 2013 Marc by Marc Jacobs show last night. The loose, playful updo was without real shape, as if each girl had quickly pinned it up herself.

“This is a very easy, simple hairstyle.  We wrapped these bright fabrics around the head, and then pinned the hair up into a very messy chignon. It feels very young, lighthearted and nonchalant. It’s a mix of inspiration from the 70s and 80s and almost has a punky feel to it.”

Create the Look:

  1. Start with damp hair and spray guts 10 root targeted spray foam throughout, this will give it some texture and ensure that when it’s pinned up, it will stay.
  2. Rough dry hair brushing straight back with a boar-bristle brush.
  3. Wrap fabric headband around head tying at the nape of the neck.
  4. Gather hair into a loose ponytail and secure with elastic 4 inches from the ends of the hair.
  5. Fold the loose ponytail up into a messy chignon and pin with open fasteners
  6. Mist entire style with fashion work 12 versatile working spray.
