Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid – Beauty Edition

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

The PANTONE Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid. But you knew that. What may be a bit confusing are all of the “variations” of Radiant Orchid. PANTONE lists the color as “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones”. So, while the swatch in the link may look rather mid-tone lilac to you (confession, it does to me) that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to stick 100% to the picture. As some brands have shown, the Radiant Orchid color is loosely interpreted. Which brings me to today’s post – Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid.

Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With OrchidNow, normally I’m a little too gung-ho with the limited edition high-end products, so for this post I made sure to incorporate very affordable slash accessible but accurate ways to get that Radiant Orchid look.

Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid 2In no particular order:

  1. Wet N Wild. For a long time WnW has proven they’re in it to win it in a big way. While still remaining extremely affordable the quality has skyrocketed making them a major leader in the land of drugstore makeup. Some of my picks for the Radiant Orchid Category are the Petal Pusher Eyeshadow Palette and V.I.Pink Perfect Pout Lip Color.
  2. Pixi Beauty. Orchid Petal Tinted Brilliance Balm & Paradise Pink Nail Polish are the perfect duo for making a Radiant Orchid statement on your nails and keeping your lips demure.
  3. CoverGirl. I got to try out the Flamed Out Shadow Pots while I was #NAILGATING and I loved the formula! Of course for the Radiant Orchid post I needed to get my hands on 340 Blazing Purple, which, IMO, is dead on for the actual shade of RO.
  4. Beauty Addicts. This brand was a hidden gem for me. I got a few products sent over recently and thought they were absolutely perfect for the Radiant Orchid post. SolutionEYES in Motivate Eyeshadow Quad and Lip Addiction in Tease & Fierce are now some of my favorite shades of purples, and will be even beyond 2014!
  5. Eddie Funkhouser. Two of my recently reviewed items from Eddie are totally applicable to this Radiant Orchid trend. Be sure to click the link to see how to get the look using Bedroom Eyes Hyperreal Eye Color Palette & Peep Show Ultra Intensity Cheek Color.
  6. Pop Beauty. Peony Petal may be a bit deeper than what you’d think of for Radiant Orchid, but I totally think it belongs within the category. It’s got that purpley pink mix to it, and a wide variety of people can pull it off!
  7. Laura Mercier. Pink Prism probably looks super bold in the tube, BUT on the lips it’s subtle and shiny with a hint of the beauty of Radiant Orchid.
  8. China Glaze. Of course, every brand will have at the very least one shade (likely many shades) that will be able to be placed in the Radiant Orchid category. China Glaze came to mind because I just swatched The Sea Goddess Collection and Wish on a Starfish and Tail Me Something could easily fall into this line up.
  9. Marc Jacobs. The Tease 202 Style Eye-Con No.7 – Plush Shadow immediately came to mind (it’s not pictured, I’m in the middle of moving into an in home office space and a lot of palettes are piled up in a cabinet). As you can tell, if you clicked the link, this is full of variations of Radiant Orchid.

I’m kind of wanting that liquid eyeliner

What’s nice about the 2014 Color of the Year is that the variations make it possible for everyone to find a flattering shade. Warm and Cool Toned alike, you can all wear Radiant Orchid.

POP Beauty Plump Pout Swatches & Review

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Today I have all four shades of the POP Beauty Plump Pout line to share with you – Bare Nectar, Honey Rose, Peony Petal and Fuchsia Freesia.

POP Beauty Plump PoutWhat Ulta says about POP Beauty Plump Pout:

This plumping pout perfector combines the high-shine of a lacquered gloss with the long wear of a stain and is packed full of lip-plumping peptides and avocado & jojoba oils. Lightweight, creamy texture immediately merges with lips & delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long-lasting finish.

POP Beauty Plump Pout packagingPOP Beauty Plump Pout ingredients POP Beauty Plump Pout Liquid Lipstick Stain POP Beauty Plump Pout SwatchesPlump Pout is a Liquid Lipstick Stain. (shown L-R above)  Bare Nectar is a browned beige, Honey Rose is a mauve, Peony Petal is a rose pink and Fucshia Freesia is a bright bold pink.

The formula isn’t thick or goopy, yet is still nicely opaque when you apply with a fabulous shine.  There is a slight tingling sensation for a few minutes but it’s not horribly uncomfortable.  It stays on for several hours, leaving very light staining behind.

Fragrance-wise there is a slight scent, but it’s lovely and isn’t so strong that it should bother you unless you’re very sensitive to smells.

As far as packaging goes the oval, flat container is a little off-putting.  The first time you grab ahold of the cap to apply you’ll feel awkward, but the doe-foot applicator applies the product evenly and with ease.  This is actually excellent and convenient packaging for keeping in your pocket.

POP Beauty Plump Pout retails for $16.00 and is available at Ulta.

Without breaking a stride the ipsy Glam Bag continues to amaze.  The value in each bag is always around 5 times what you pay plus more.  Once again, I’m beyond impressed with this monthly beauty subscription service.

The theme for the December 2013 ipsy Glam Bag is Celebration!.

december ipsy glam bag celebrationWhat you see above is a black quilted bag with a black zipper.  It’s wonderfully understated, yet still chic enough to use as a clutch to a semi-formal affair.

The card is basically there to give you the run down of the discounts you can get by visiting the Glam Room on ipsy.com.  As usual, there are a ton of fabulous deals.

What’s inside?

December 2013 ipsy Glam BagFrom Andrea, Strip Lash False Lashes.  While I don’t wear false lashes regularly, it’s nice to have some on hand for special events or pictures.  These particular lashes are perfect for your holiday party or New Years celebration!

December 2013 ipsy Glam Bag contentsFrom POP Beauty, the Bright Up Your Life Eye Shadow Trio.  The trio I got was in Smoking Hot but a neutral trio was also sent out in Naturally Bare.  This smokey set of shadows is a little chalky, but overall work well and are usually my go-to look for holiday!

From Be a Bombshell, The One Stick in Flustered.  Flustered is a deep, rosy pink all-in-one stick, said to work well on eyes, cheeks and lips.  The texture was creamy and the color was lovely for the lips and when used very lightly on the cheeks. Two other shades were also handed out in Girl Crush and Sunset.

From NYX, the Extra Creamy Round Lipstick.  Subscribers received one of 15 shades, mine was B52.  I love this mauve type shade in the colder months, so this was perfect.  Mauve is my cold weather neutral and I’m always happy to collect more!  The formula is moisturizing and silky with a slight shine.

From Jesse’s Girl, JulieG Holiday Frosted Gum Drops Nail PolishSugar Plum Fairy was the only shade given out in this months bag and it’s a gorgeous, textured deep grape shade with silver shimmer.  Below is two coats, but it can also be opaque in one thick coat.

Jesses Girl Julie G Sugar Plum Fairy Nail Polish swatchDefinitely worth the $10 and then some.  I am absolutely in for January since the value from ipsy remains fabulous and keeps getting better and better!

July 2013 ipsy Glam Bag Review & Swatches

Referral Links

Open letter to ipsy, I love you because you give me oodles of goodies for ten bucks.  Love you long time.  Infinity times infinity.  Keep this up and no one in their right mind would cancel.  Anyways….

The theme for the July 2013 ipsy Glam Bag is Beach Beauty.

IMG_1535What you see above is a clear, neon pink plastic cylindrical makeup bag.  Probably not a makeup bag I’d buy, but I appreciate the new type of shape and clear bags are the “thing” now.  Plastic is much better for a pool bag anyway since it will repel water rather than soak it in.

The card is basically there to give you the run down of what is in your bag and the discounts you can get by visiting the Glam Room on ipsy.com.  There are quite a few this month, which is exciting!

What’s inside?

IMG_1539From Big Sexy Hair, Weather Proof Humidity Resistant Spray.  This product works to set your hair style against humidity and keep it looking like it did right after you styled it.  The reviews look good, so I’m excited to give this a whirl, as my hair is very defiant towards any sort of styling.

From Nailtini, Nail Lacquer in Mai Tai.  Love this shade hot coral for Summer, it’s truly that perfect beach shade.  Below is two coats.

IMG_1567From Coola, Mineral Face SPF 20 Unscented Moisturizer.  Well, the biggest thing I love about the Glam Bag is the lack of skincare samples.  However, I can’t complain too much about this one, because we all need SPF and the small tube is great for keeping in my makeup bag.  You only need a small amount and it absorbs quickly, but there is a paste like odor to it and it felt slightly sticky on my skin.

IMG_1542From BH Cosmetics, California Collection Eyeshadow.  This was actually intriguing.  I’d heard of BH Cosmetics and seen their insanely huge palettes, but never made the move to purchase and test the quality myself.  I found the formula to be dry, especially on Hollywood and San Francisco (Pink Sith actually drew little faces to represent the quality of each shadow, I die).  Just not impressed with this one.

From Pop Beauty, Pouty Pop Crayon in Coral Crush.  Three different shades went out to Glam subscribers and I received a pretty, bright pink with a slight hint of coral.  This was glossy and creamy.  My fave part of this months bag!

IMG_1552For having referrals, ipsy included this Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in Pretty in Plum (Selena Gomez Collection, January 2013).  I already own this one, you can click the provided link to see swatches, so this will remain unused and go into a giveaway at some point.  Supposedly referrals granted an UD shadow or this really cute bracelet… but a nail polish is just as lovely of a surprise!

Definitely worth the $10 and then some.  I am absolutely in for August since the value from ipsy remains fabulous and keeps getting better and better!

Ipsy does profile pages now, so here is mine.  And now they finally are offering a referral program, basically refer two friends get an UD shadow and a BaubleBar bracelet for free in your next bag (or, apparently a NOPI polish?!).  Soooo go sign up because you’re missing out!

Here is where you can go to subscribe to ipsy for a Glam Bag.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara Swatches & Review

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a mascara that not only looks fabulous but combs through your lashes while you apply, saving you a step in your beauty routine?  Pop Beauty has created their Peak Performance Mascara in three shades - Brilliant Black, Cocoa Charm and Inky Indigo – to do just that.

001What the Ulta website says about Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara:

Mascara with advanced lash comb separates, coats, lifts & fans out every lash, resulting in immense lash volume & dramatically maximized eyes.Lash-protecting formula conditions & nourishes lashes. Hygienic twist-up wand prevents bacteria build up & formula dry out, ensuring fresh new mascara every time.
1) First time use: twist base 5 clicks, filling entire comb with mascara. Each additional use: twist base 4-5 clicks.
2) Curl lashes. Wiggle the comb from lash root to tip.
3) For outer & inner lashes, turn comb vertically; layer and “fan out” to add volume & length.
4) For center lashes, apply by pushing lashes up & holding for a few seconds to lock in curl.

Directions
Sara’s POP your skills: 1) Spin the dial twice for the right amount of mascara for one eye; fill the whole comb with mascara. Hold the wand straight, wiggle the comb starting at the lash root, then apply from root to tip. Start at the outer corner of the eye, move towards the middle and finish with inner corner. 2) Focus on outer corner lashes & now apply side ways; layer to add more volume and extend length for larger eyes. 3) For the center of lashes, apply pushing curl up & hold for a few seconds (the mascara will lift lashes & dry to keep curl) For the inner corner just comb through “fanning out” towards bridge of nose. 4) For bottom lashes paint on from root to tip.

035(wearing Brilliant Black)

The Peak Performance Mascara works to comb the lashes apart while applying the product for nicely natural, curled and separated lashes.  It also has a twist up dispenser so I suggest wiping off the comb to keep it clean and ready for your next use.

How does the mascara also comb the lashes while applying?  Observe the innovative applicator:

006This style of applicator does take some getting used to.  The first time I tried it I poked myself in the eye (I’m also rather klutzy).  Luckily, Pop Beauty provides step-by-step instructions on the back of the box, so if you follow those, use caution and also aren’t like me, you should be fine ;)

The only negative I have on this mascara is that it does flake a bit.  This can be easily cleaned up, but I wanted to mention it so that you’d be sure to do your eye makeup before your face makeup.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara retails for $20.00 and is available at Ulta and on the Pop Beauty website.
