Makeup Wars – Emerald Look Featuring L’Oreal The Temptress’ Gaze Quad, The Muse’s Attitude Nail Polish and Tarte Emerald Skinny SmolderEYES

For this weeks Makeup Wars the gals have decided to take on the Pantone 2013 Color of the Year, Emerald and show our favorite way to wear it.  This is such a fun one for me personally, because Emerald is my favorite jewel-toned shade.  And this post also comes to you just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!  Get your green on!

Below are the items I’m featuring in my post, a few fabulous items from Tarte and L’Oreal!

IMG_7593 IMG_7597I love to wear my emerald as a pop of color on an otherwise neutral eye.  A great palette to start this process is the Project Runway Limited Edition Studio Secrets Pressed Eyeshadow Quad in 216 Temptress’ Gaze by L’Oreal ($8.99 at Ulta).

IMG_7600This quad has three shades (a bronze, golden copper, and a deep, matte brown) that make it easy to create a bold, yet lovely neutral eye with a fourth shade in green to mix it up.

But, I like to mix it up even MORE by adding in a true emerald hued eye liner.  My favorite for this is the Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Emerald ($19.00 at Sephora & Ulta).  This liner will not budge once it sets and it lines smoothly on the lid as well as on the waterline.  There is no skipping, and it’s so soft all you need is one stroke for perfection.

IMG_7616IMG_7666Clearly, swatching and looking at product is fun, but the REALLY fun part is showing off the eye look!

For this EOTD I started out with my primer of choice, Urban Decay Primer Potion.  Taking the L’Oreal Temptress’ Gaze Quad I applied the Bronze shade all over the eye lid except for at the inner corners where I applied the golden copper.  The green shade is in the crease and blended up, and then I also blended a bit more of the golden copper over that.  The deep brown shade was used to deepen the outer V.  I lined top and bottom with the Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES in Emerald and then smudged more of the green shadow underneath that.  The mascara used is Neutrogena Healthy Volume.

IMG_7682And, for kicks, an emerald nail look with L’Oreal The Muse’s Attitude Nail Color ($5.99 at Ulta)!  I believe this polish as well as the quad shown are limited edition.  Three coats of polish were used in the photo below.

IMG_7694How do you wear Emerald?

See what the other participants in this installment of Makeup Wars came up with!  I’m really excited to see how the other bloggers incorporate the color of the year into their looks!  What WILL we think of next?!

L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Light Swatches & Review

For their first shot at a “Magic” BB Cream, I’d say L’Oréal knocked it out of the park.  But is it truly magical?

The L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream is available in four shades – Fair, Light, Medium and Deep.  The shade that works the best with my tone is Light so that is the shade that will be featured in swatches for this post.

076What the Ulta website says about the L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream:

Discover L’Oreal’s 1st Magic B.B. Cream with Beautifying Beads: Encapsulated pigments infused in an ultra-light lotion with antioxidants Vitamin C & E.

4 Beautifying Actions in 1:

  • Primes to smooth skin’s texture

  • Perfects to hide imperfections

  • Hydrates for all day moisture

  • Corrects skin for a healthy looking even complexion.

Instantly transforms to your perfect shade for a flawless bare skin finish. Over time, more beautiful skin.

077IMG_6577As you can see from the swatch above, when you squeeze out the L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream the color can make you take a step back.  No one is THAT pale!  However, you’ll also notice that it blends out beautifully and with a good amount of coverage.  The micro-beads self-adjust and transform to blend into your skin tone.

It’s a little too runny to apply with something like a stippling brush, so I’ve found the best way to apply this product is by placing some on my fingertips, dotting on my face, and using my fingertips to blend.  Coverage is achieved easily and the finish looks light while correcting and hiding flaws.

I would call this the drugstore version of my holy grail Miracle Skin Transformer for sure.

L’Oréal Paris Magic BB Cream retails for $10.95 for 1 fl oz. It is available at mass food and drug retailers nationwide.

Tip: Right now at Ulta you can get these for Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off!

I received a complimentary product from SheSpeaks/L’Oréal to facilitate this review, all opinions are honest and in no way influenced by either brand.

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Finishing Cream Review & Giveaway

Dubbed the “30 second miracle” the L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Finishing Cream  is said to instantly blur all of your skin imperfections as well as help prevent sunburn.  Sounds good to me!

039 043What drugstore.com has to say about L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Finishing Cream:

Instantly Erases the Look of Wrinkles, Lines & Pores

  • With Opti-Blur Technology
  • Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen

It’s Not a Moisturizer.  It’s Not a Foundation.  It’s More Than a Primer:
Introducing Miracle Blur, the first-of-its-kind instant skin smoothing finishing cream.  Miracle Blur was specially formulated with a distinctive cushiony texture that instantly blurs lines, wrinkles, pores and uneven texture.  This unique finishing cream blends seamlessly into skin so it instantly looks and feels smooth, leaving a velvet-soft matte finish.  A finishing cream in the truest sense, Revitalift Miracle Blur should be the final step in every woman’s skincare routine, applied after moisturizer.  It can also be worn under foundation for smoother, more even application and wear.

Why is it Different?
Revitalift is the first finishing cream that delivers instant results.  Opti-Blur Technology diffuses light on skin for a soft-focus effect that instantly smoothes lines and wrinkles, hides pores and minimizes little flaws and imperfections.  In 4 weeks, wrinkles, lines and pores appear minimized.  Skin texture appears smoother.

046 051 052While it’s not botox in a box, this is likely the next best and most available thing to making fine lines and wrinkles look less prominent.  It does “blur” out minor imperfections just by using the small amount shown above.  Once smoothed over the face Miracle Blur works it’s magic and also makes for a great foundation primer.  My beef?  It’s thick and you know that it’s on until you apply your other makeup over top..  However, if you’re plagued by a few flaws of the skin, the positives definitely outweigh the negative.

At the end of the day, you need to decide what you want to achieve for your face and what you can put up with to get there.  Can you deal with the thick, silicone feeling for flawless skin?  Or is it a deal breaker?

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Finishing Cream retails for $24.99 and is available at your local drugstore, as well as at drugstore.com.

Makeup Wars ~ My Holiday Beauty Wish List

The Makeup Wars Bloggers decided it would be a smart move to do up our Holiday wish lists.  Basically, if any family or friends are reading this and want to tell Santa so I have a little surprise under the tree… you won’t hear me complain.  I might even have a smooch waiting under the mistletoe for anyone thinking of me!

I thought it would be a good idea to pick some “wants” at several price points… just in case my hubby or someone else who loves me equally as much is checking this out!  Keeping it tame, this is just beauty items.  If I would have dove into handbag, shoes, jewelry… well, we’d have been here all day.

  1. Tarte Carried Away Collector’s Set ($54.00).  This set from Tarte has is ALL.  It’s so beautiful and clearly necessary for all of your beauty needs and wants!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  2. OCC Pro’s Picks Lip Tar Set ($49.00).  I own nothing from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and I’m DYING to.  This set is the perfect opportunity!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  3. Make Up For Ever Be Your Own Make Up Artist Station ($950.00).  Let’s just be honest, who DOESN’T want this?  At that price point it’ll very likely never happen for me, but I can dream!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  4. Burberry Complete Eye Palette ($59.00).  I’ll take any of them, but the one pictured, Dark Spice, is my top choice.  Photo courtesy of Nordstrom.com.
  5. Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Shadow in Rose Gold ($24.00).  I love the style of the shadow pan and the shade just looks stunning!  Photo courtesy of NeimanMarcus.com.
  6. Estee Lauder Michael Kors Set ($38.50).  This one is tricky, you can only purchase it with an Estee Lauder Fragrance purchase.  I cannot stand EL fragrance and I don’t know anyone to give it to if I bought it.  So go buy yourself some perfume and then get me this Michael Kors set!  Different sets are available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards, Macys and EsteeLauder.com.  I’ll take any of them.  Photo courtesy of Nordstrom.com.
  7. MAC Hang Up the Glamour Hanging Travel Bag ($40.00).  It’s leopard on the outside, lacy looking on the inside and securely holds all of our travel junkies with style.  Hook me up.  Photo courtesy of maccosmetics.com.
  8. Bare Escentuals The Star Treatment Set ($40.00).  I love the pressed shadows from this brand, and the shades in this palette are right up my alley!  Photo courtesy of Sephora.com.
  9. MAC Making Pretty Brush Set for Face & Eye ($100.00).  I obviously don’t NEED this, but its so pretty and chic… I just want it to look at it.  I’d never buy it for myself, but would loveeee to have it as a gift!  Photo courtesy of maccosmetics.com.
  10. Le Metier de Beaute CHEM60 Pro-Peel and GLOW10ai Mask Set ($265.00)  I am so totally addicted to this.  It’s easy to do, safe and it works!  You can check out my experience with this product by clicking here.  Photo courtesy of NeimanMarcus.com.

  2. Wet N Wild ColorIcon Eight Pan Eyeshadow Palette Collection.  I’d love the two palettes I don’t have that released with Holiday 2012 (I think the matte one, Drinking a Glass of Shine, was released before as I <3 Matte) in Sparkle ‘Til Morning & Shimmer the Night Away (see pics at Nouveau Cheap).
  3. L’Oreal Project Runway Electric Fantasie Collection.  Any and all of it.  We’ve been ripe with sickness here so I haven’t really been out and about to get any pieces =( See photos at Musings of a Muse.
  4. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips.  I always see these and always want to try them out.  The colors just look so pretty sitting by each other.  The set shown above is in Nude.  Photo courtesy of PhysiciansFormula.com.

L’Oreal AMBER RUSH, BOTTOMLESS JAVA, SMOLDERING PLUM, LIQUID DIAMOND, GLISTENING GARNET, GOLDEN EMERALD, ENDLESS SEA 24HR Infallible Eye Shadow Swatches and Review

It’s safe to say I have a major addiction to the L’Oreal 24 Hour Infallible Eye Shadows.  There is a pull in my gut to purchase every single one and love them like children.  They’re the perfect base, a vivid eye shadow, and super affordable.  What’s not to love?

Some new shades graced the shelves this Summer, and I picked up 7 from the display – 892 Amber Rush, 800 Bottomless Java, 556 Smoldering Plum, 996 Liquid Diamond, 557 Glistening Garnet, 335 Golden Emerald, and 337 Endless Sea.

(L-R: Top Row – 892 Amber Rush, 800 Bottomless Java, 556 Smoldering Plum; Bottom Row – 996 Liquid Diamond, 557 Glistening Garnet, 335 Golden Emerald, 337 Endless Sea.)

What the L’Oreal website has to say about 24 Hour Infallible Eye Shadows:

For the first time ever, L’Oreal Paris introduces an ultra intense eye shadow that lasts from day until dawn – a full 24 hours.  This revolutionary formula fuses the ease of a powder with the velvety caress of a cream to create a unique hybrid that glides on effortlessly.  And with it’s unique technology, your eyes are enhanced with pure, magnificent pigment.  Make a lasting impression without batting an eye.

  • Intense, maximized color
  • Luxurious powder-cream texture
  • 24-hour long-lasting hold
  • Waterproof, crease resistant, fade resistant

(L-R: Top Row – 892 Amber Rush, 800 Bottomless Java, 556 Smoldering Plum; Bottom Row – 996 Liquid Diamond, 557 Glistening Garnet, 335 Golden Emerald, 337 Endless Sea.)

(L-R: Top Row – 892 Amber Rush, 800 Bottomless Java, 556 Smoldering Plum; Bottom Row – 996 Liquid Diamond, 557 Glistening Garnet, 335 Golden Emerald, 337 Endless Sea.)

Because I’m doing 7 of these shadows in one post, I’m breaking them down into two parts for sanity’s sake.

The first three are 892 Amber Rush, 800 Bottomless Java, and 556 Smoldering Plum.

Amber Rush

Amber Rush comes off just a bit lighter than a shiny, brand new copper penny.  I’ve been wearing this one alone on the lid with a molten black liner such as Urban Decay Perversion.

Bottomless Java

Bottomless Java is a chocolate bronze laced with golden bronze shimmers.  It’s drool-worthy.  If you’re a neutral or bronze eye lover, you need this.

Smoldering Plum

Smoldering Plum is a rich, frosty purple with burgundy shimmer.  A lovely jewel tone that will be amazing this Fall!

The next four are 996 Liquid Diamond, 557 Glistening Garnet, 335 Golden Emerald, and 337 Endless Sea.

Liquid Diamond

Liquid Diamond is a frosty greyed lilac with silver shimmers.  This shade will work well with Purples, Greys and Taupes!

Glistening Garnet

Glistening Garnet is a frosty berry with what looks to be a tint of fuchsia shimmer.

Golden Emerald

Golden Emerald is just absolutely stunning.  A golden olive green packed with gold shimmer.

Endless Sea

Endless Sea is the exact shade of the Caribbean, if the Caribbean would become an eye shadow.  So beautiful that you won’t be able to catch your breath if you look at it too long.

Previously I tested the wear of the Infallible Eye Shadows & they are everything they say they are and more.  If you find that they aren’t as intense as you’d like, try using them wet (though, IMO you don’t need to).  I’ve reviewed eight others here and here (EEK, I just noticed Amber Rush is a repeat lol sorry)!

I’ve found it is better to apply these with the finger, rather than a brush (like the Armani’s).  It just gives off an easier, smoother application, and is nicer to blend that way.  The feel of the L’Oreal shadows is a little more powdery than the Armani, but they work just as well and are a fourth of the price (I paid $7.99 each at Rite-Aid).

L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadows retail for $9.95 (MSRP) but pricing will vary based off of where you buy them.  Usually at least one store will also have a deal where they are buy one get one half off, so be sure and check your ads and your Sunday paper for coupons.  These can be found at your local drugstore as well as at Ulta and drugstore.com.

L’Oreal GORGEOUS GOLD Nail Polish Swatches & Review – Summer 2012

Two drugstore nail polishes from L’Oreal have really caught my eye this Summer.  Gorgeous Gold 168 and Silver Sparkle 162 (to be reviewed) Nail Color.

For this post, I wanted to feature Gorgeous Gold first, because it’s Summer, Golds are awesome-sauce, and… have you seen it?  Plus I think it’ll match my outfit for Thursday and I needed to give it a test run lol

(outside, with flash, no sun)

(outside, in sun, no flash)

(outside, no sun, no flash)

Gorgeous Gold has a antique golden frost base with golden and olive shimmer as well as gold hex glitters throughout.  The polish isn’t ridiculously top coat hungry, but does feel slightly gritty even after a top coat.  The end result is divine, though, and a Summer must-have!

Two coats were used in the swatch photo, so the base has good coverage.  Be sure to use a top coat as well, this polish is very dull without it!

I’ve seen this collection at Rite-Aid for awhile now (I’ve had this polish in my swatch box since before I went to Disney!) – always on the bottom of a display at the entrance, so make sure you’re looking low!  The retail on the Nail Color is $5.99 but usually you can find a buy one get one half off somewhere!

L’Oreal SASSY HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Eye Shadow Duo Swatches, Review, and EOTD

Back when I went to pick up the Electrified duo, L’Oreal products were buy one get one half off at Ulta.  Another duo that caught my eye was Sassy 208.  I picked that one up as my halfer, but I’m not sure it’s as much of a love as Electrified….

What the L’Oreal Website has to say about HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Duos:

Discover the secret for bold, metallic color with a luminous finish.  HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Duos are expertly coordinated to create an edgy, shimmery look.  The rich, super-blendable color glides on evenly for hours of captivating, crease-resistant wear.

Sassy is a stunning duo of taupe and a deep smoky teal.

The pigment of the taupe side of Sassy is FABULOUS, but the smoky teal side is just okay.  The teal didn’t show up well in my crease, but when worn on the lid it was decent.

Both shades were soft and smooth, and wore nicely on the eye (even though the taupe ate the teal when I applied it in the crease lol).

To get the EOTD look below, you’ll need to do the following – apply a layer of L’Oreal Bronzed Taupe 24hr Infallible Eye Shadow to the lid using your pointer finger (this will serve as your base).  Taking a firm brush (I used the MAC 239) I patted 2 layers of the Taupe side all over the lid and into the crease.  Using a firm pencil brush (I used the MAC 219) deposit the Smoky Teal side into the crease.  Picking up some more color on the pencil brush pat the shade into the outer V.  Picking up a blending brush (I used the MAC 226) get a bit more of the Smoky Teal color and blend the eye.  To highlight the eye I took a fluffy brush (any will do) and applied Le Metier de Beaute True Color Eye Shadow in Naked.

The top eye liner is MAC Siahi Fluidline, and a bit of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Liner in Stray Dog on the outer lower lash line.  The mascara used for this look was 2 coats of MAC Plush Lash.

L’Oreal HIP Metallic Shadows retail for $7.99 each (this is the MSRP price, pricing will vary based on the retailer) and are available at drugstores as well as Ulta.  I got mine at Ulta during a buy one get one half off deal, so be sure to check your local ads for deals!

L’Oreal ELECTRIFIED HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Eye Shadow Duo Swatches, Review, and EOTD

L’Oreal eye products are quickly becoming a favorite of mine (darn you Infallible Shadows!) and their HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Duos call to me as the perfect topper on said Infallible Shadows!  For my first choice, I went with the duo of Electrified 510.

(all pics can be clicked to enlarge them to their full size!)

Electrified is a striking duo of foiled, silver taupe and a lustrous metallic burgundy plum.  The shades are extremely blendable and super pigmented.  The formula is buttery and hands down amazing.  I don’t know if these are crease resistant when used alone, but when using the L’Oreal Infallible Shadows as a base, they will last the day.

This particular duo is rather magnetic, so reach for it when you’re wanting a bold statement eye!

To get the EOTD look below, you’ll need to do the following – apply a layer of L’Oreal Perpetual Purple 24hr Infallible Eye Shadow to the lid using your pointer finger (this will serve as your base).  Taking a firm brush (I used the MAC 239) I patted 2 layers of the Silvered Taupe side all over the lid and into the crease.  Using a firm pencil brush (I used the MAC 219) deposit the Burgundy/Plum side into the crease.  Picking up some more color on the pencil brush pat the shade into the outer V.  Picking up a blending brush (I used the MAC 226) get a bit more of the Burgundy/Purple color, tap off the excess, and blend the eye.  To highlight the eye I took a fluffy brush (any will do) and applied L’Oreal Endless Pearl 24hr Infallible Eye Shadow.

The top eye liner is Chanel Le Crayon Yeux in Violet Smoke, the bottom liner is Chanel  Stylo Yeux in Rose Platine and a bit of the Violet Smoke on the water line.  The mascara used for this look was 2 coats of Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess in Night Violet.

L’Oreal ETERNAL SUNSHINE, AMBER RUSH, GOLDEN SAGE, PERPETUAL PURPLE 24HR Infallible Eye Shadow Swatches and Review

The L’Oreal 24hr Infallible Eye Shadows are somewhat addicting.  In case you didn’t know already, they are said to be the drugstore version of the Armani Eyes to Kill High Voltage 24hr shadows.

I have already shown you four other shades in Sultry Smoke, Iced Latte, Endless Pearl, and Bronzed Taupe – and now I bring you four more!  Eternal Sunshine 997, Amber Rush 892, Golden Sage 333, and Perpetual Purple 555 are the newest additions to my collection, and likely won’t be the last.

What the L’Oreal website has to say about 24 Hour Infallible Eye Shadows:

(Eternal Sunshine)

(Amber Rush)

(Golden Sage)

(Perpetual Purple)

(L-R: Eternal Sunshine, Amber Rush, Golden Sage, Perpetual Purple)

Eternal Sunshine is a frosty yellow gold, Amber Rush is a brassy copper, Golden Sage is a striking emerald green, and Perpetual Purple is a royal purple with a flash of blue sparkle.

The wear on these shadows is incredible.  I use them as a base for my shadows and for shadows themselves.  After 12 hours I experience no creasing or fading what-so-ever.

I’ve found it is better to apply these with the finger, rather than a brush (like the Armani’s).  It just gives an easier and smoother application.  The feel of the L’Oreal shadows is a little more powdery than the Armani, but they work just as well and are a fourth of the price (I paid $7.99 each at Rite-Aid).

L’Oreal SULTRY SMOKE, ICED LATTE, ENDLESS PEARL, BRONZED TAUPE 24 HR Infallible Eye Shadow Swatches and Review

Awhile ago L’Oreal released Infallible Eye Shadows internationally (I forget exactly where).  These are said to be a drugstore dupe for the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Shadows, so naturally everyone was intrigued to explore this product.  After what I’m sure was a lot of excessive begging (from me on Twitter hehe) the Infallible Eye Shadows appeared in the states.  And the crowd goes wild.

 (Sultry Smoke)

 (Endless Pearl)

 (Bronzed Taupe)

 (Iced Latte)

(L-R: Sultry Smoke, Endless Pearl, Bronzed Taupe, Iced Latte)

Sultry Smoke is a really pretty satiny slate blue, Endless Pearl is an ivory satin, Bronzed Taupe is a frosty grey-brown, and Iced Latte is a frosty ivory.

For the wear process I put Bronzed Taupe all over the lid and through the crease and then highlighted with Endless Pearl.  I did not use any sort of primer underneath, these shades were all on my bare eye.  It’s been on for about 12 hours now and there is no fading or creasing.  I even fell asleep on the couch a bit today with my daughter and woke up with my left eye pressed into the arm of the couch and there is not smudging.  You wouldn’t even know that I didn’t just apply the shadow.

The Infallible Eye Shadows are everything they say they are and more.  Call this a new addiction and I will absolutely be purchasing more, if not all of these.  So be on the look out for more posts and swatches, as well as some looks!

Bronzed Taupe is said to be a dupe for the Armani #06, but I find that the Armani is a lot brassier of a bronze, while the L’Oreal is a true taupe shade.

L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadows retail for $9.95 (MSRP) but pricing will vary based off of where you buy them.  Usually at least one store will also have a deal where they are buy one get one half off, so be sure and check your ads and your Sunday paper for coupons.  These shadows are available in 12 shades and can be found at your local drugstore as well as at Ulta.
