7 Holiday Gift Ideas for the People You Forgot

Referral Links

Whoopsie!  It’s the eve of the holiday, birthday, special occasion and you forgot.  You forgot and you have zero minutes to get your head together and not only figure out what to buy, but also go and get the gift.  Then you have to wrap it.  Arghghhhh.

Good news.  Beauty and fashion subscription services are a-plenty and you have many to choose from.  Priced from $10 up to $389, these services will easily fit into your holiday gift list and budget…. for both women and men!

7-last-minute-gift-ideas

  1. GlossyBox.  At $21.00 a month GlossyBox is slightly more expensive, but the brands are both premier and niche.  GlossyBox is also available in 16 countries. My GlossyBox reviews.
  2. ipsy.  Created by Michelle Phan, ipsy is only $10 a month and consistently has an incredible selection of beauty items (mostly makeup).  They’ve also recently implemented a new referral program with a “choose your own gift” motif.  My ipsy reviews.
  3. i-Ella The List.  The List is a fashion service (with some beauty) which includes some of the most stunning items you’ll ever lay eyes on, all completely on trend.  This service has three different levels – Starter ($59.00), Soho ($129.00) and St. Barths ($389.00).  My i-Ella reviews.
  4. Little Black Bag.  Who hasn’t heard of Little Black Bag?  LBB is a great place to load up your closet for less.  The mostly fashion and a little beauty service offers such well-known brands as Betsey Johnson, Steve Madden, BCBGeneration and more!  Opening a bag can vary in price depending on the item and designer, but gift cards to the site can be bought for as little as $15.00 and up to $500.00.  My Little Black Bag reviews.
  5. Beauty Box 5.  BB5 starts at $12.00 a month for 5 cosmetic samples.  As of late, this service has really stepped up it’s game and become one of the best out there. You’ll also receive exclusive discounts from partner brands.  My Beauty Box 5 reviews.
  6. Birchbox.  While Birchbox may not be the best in terms of content (anymore) they still have the best rewards program, and is also available for men.  For each referral you get 50 points and for each review you get 10 points.  100 points = $10 in the Birchbox shop where they have a plethora of amazing items from countless brands (yes, you’ve heard of at least 90% of them).  This service is $10.00 a month.  With a 1-year women’s gift subscription, get a free Cynthia Rowley eyeliner ($18 value) with the code: cynthiarowleybeauty.  My Birchbox reviews.
  7. Wantable.  The Wantable subscription is $36.00 a month, highly customizable and you can choose from the Makeup, Accessories and Intimates boxes.  You can also earn credits – each point = $1.  You get 1 point for anyone who signs up and 10 points for anyone who places their order.  This is a great way to get introduced to brands such as Lise Watier, Billion Dollar Brows and more.  My Wantable reviews.

What is your biggest gift whoopsie?  I always forget someone.  In holidays past I’ve always kept a stockpile of candles (works for all events, though!).  My “just in case” cabinet gets a lot of use this time of year!  Thankfully if I’m gifting a subscription service they take care of the mailing and “details” while I just fill in the info and pay!

July 2013 Little Black Bag Photos & Review

It’s Little Black Bag time!  I actually had a bag in between this current one and the last one, and I thought I was being so proactive in doing an unboxing video and the dang camera cut off.  I’m not savvy enough to figure out editing and things like that, so in the garbage it went.  I was sad about a lot of stuff in it, but pleasantly surprised about other things.

In this July Little Black Bag I have only three items (plus a bonus mini item).  I did open with 4, but the one item I finally got in this bag I’ve been wanting for over a month, so I WAY over-traded for it.  Like triple the amount lol.

Onto the goods.  In this month’s Little Black Bag we have….

IMG_1763 IMG_1767First, the item I opened with, the R2 Beatriz Sandal.  These shoes are gorgeous.  Visually, I love them and they’re perfect.  Unfortunately, they’re a little more than half a size too big and the back rubbed on my heel within one step and hurt (HURT).  Already.  These are probably just shoes you’ll sit around in, because Heaven help you if you need to walk anywhere.  They’re so cute, though =(

Next, from Robert Rose, the Braided Embellishment Bracelet.  Kind of cheap looking and doesn’t always shut around your wrist evenly.  I like the look of it, but you can tell it’s not well made.  I think the retail was $36 on this one, so you would think it’d at least be halfway decent.  I really wasn’t impressed.

Finally, the item I wayyyyy over-traded for… from Deux Lux the Lucky Wristlet in Cherry.  Isn’t she pretty?  I love Deux Lux… I didn’t even know the sequins were holo until I unwrapped it and now I love it even more.  Lovely and roomy.  Exactly perfect!

The mini thing is a promo “VIP’s” got when they opened a bag and is the NuMe Hydro Punch Conditioner.  I have total beef with getting a conditioner without the shampoo and vice versa.  It doesn’t matter what brand or company does this, it’s just my weird OCD.  I have to use coordinating product.  It even says on the backs (usually, anyway) that it performs best when used with it’s buddy.  So, really, the company does a disservice to it’s product when you only get half of the team, right?

I can’t even begin to tell you the last time I loved everything that came in my Little Black Bag.  Trading was awesome this time around and I got some excellent trades and managed to score everything I was after.

In this Little Black Bag video we’ll be checking out six items from Deux Lux, Betsey Johnson, Kenneth Jay Lane and Geranium.

May 2013 Little Black Bag Photos & Review

First off, Little Black Bag customer service has been wonderful throughout any issue I’ve ever had with the products on this website.  Their stellar customer service is the ONLY reason I keep coming back to the site.  Always prompt, always above and beyond.  That being said, I’m about to give up on Little Black Bag.  This is the second month in a row that I received a damaged item, and at this point I don’t know if I want to risk it anymore.

I opened my bag with this product – the MMS Design Studio Studded Bow Crossbody in Nude.  I freaking love it.  To pieces, I love this thing.  It’s so girlie yet rock and roll.  When I opened it I was impressed with the color being more of a blush shade and I adore the studs as well as the size of the interior.

IMG_5849 IMG_5856 IMG_5858Now look at the first pic.  Does anything look off to you?  It should, the studs don’t go the whole way up.  So, I referenced a pic on the LBB Facebook page and noted the studs should have been all over the center of the bow.  But that’s not all.  When I opened the flap of the bag the middle of the bow detached on the bottom.  From the pic (see below) it seems glue came undone.  I tried to slide it back in the hole area to no avail.

IMG_5862To say I’m devastated might sound dramatic, but that’s putting it mildly.  I’m seriously so sad right now.

The jewelry items didn’t really have me on cloud nine either, so it’s like nothing saved this particular shipment lol The items pictured below are the Betsey Johnson Coral Reef Drop Earrings, the Stein & Blye Tassel Stone Drop Earrings and the Carol Dauplaise Nugget Stretch Bracelet.

IMG_5842The Betsey Johnson Coral Reef Drop Earrings are lightweight and very teen.  Cute, but definitely not my style, though they are visually nicer in person than they were on the website.  These were an item I ended up with that I didn’t want.  I actually had a $40 item that I couldn’t trade off either and I traded down thinking these would go better.

The Stein & Blye Tassel Stone Drop Earrings are actually pretty nice with a good heft, they just aren’t my style.  Another item I ended trading with that I didn’t want.

The Carol Dauplaise Nugget Stretch Bracelet was the only jewelry item that is my style and that I would wear quite a bit.  It’s just chunky enough to look fabulous for Summer but not so chunky that I can’t layer it.  I always have good luck on the Carol Dauplaise front!

So, the million dollar question, what do you think of this month’s Little Black Bag?  I’d have been thrilled if the MMS bag would have been in good condition.  I’m just really disappointed, because I know this bag sold out quickly and there is just no hope of a replacement.  Winner, winner chicken dinner!  They had another bag on hand so a replacement is on it’s way!  WOOOOO I am so flipping happy!  LBB Customer Service shoots and scores again!

April 2013 Little Black Bag Photos & Review

Hmmmmm… isn’t it adorable how every month I say I am taking a break from Little Black Bag and then I appear with another bag the very next month.  This month they got me because if you opened a Little Black Bag with a pair of shoes you got an extra entry into a giveaway where you could win some Christian Louboutin heels.  I wants me some Loobs, ya’ll.  Of course, I didn’t win… but at least I got a great LBB out of the process!

IMG_1725 IMG_1726

Because of a referral credit I ended up with 4 items in this bag.  I wasn’t super excited to get any of the jewelry pieces, but I did end up liking two of them, but one broke (more on that later).  Trading, again, was just not happening this month.  Early on with this program trading was constant, which made the whole process so much fun… but now everyone wants something for nothing so it’s hard to actually trade for the nicer items, especially when 50 people all want the same thing and there are only 10 to go around.  You’ve gotta make those trades look good!

This LBB was my first bag where their new system was implemented… meaning the bags were no longer a steady rate, but rather the opening cost depended on what item you opened your bag with.  Because my first item was a pair of shoes from Chinese Laundry, I ended up paying $50.90 (including shipping) for all of the items shown below.

IMG_1730First I’ll show you the item I opened up the bag with, the Chinese Laundry Doubleclick Strappy Wedge (also on the site in Black).  The shoes fit well and look awesome, I’m ridiculously happy that they’re even more cute in person than they were on the site.  I went up half a size from what I normally wear and I’m really glad I erred on the side of caution there.. my usual size wouldn’t have fit.

IMG_1741Next, from Lydell NYC, Hexagon Drop Earrings.  These are stunning in person.  The website pic does them no justice.  They have a nice weight to them but not so much that it would hurt your ears.  They will be so perfect and on trend for Summer.

Third, from 1928, the Shell Circle Earrings. I actually thought I’d like these better than the ones from Lydell but they’re very light and don’t look or feel as nice as I imagined.  They’re cute, but really not my style.

IMG_1737The fourth piece is a necklace from Jardin and is the Parisian Enamel Disc Necklace.  Unfortunately, this arrived to me with the disc detached from the necklace.  It seems like it would snap on but after further inspection my hubby told me that a small piece had broken off and that’s why we couldn’t get the snap to fit.  Also, after I wrote to LBB about the damaged piece the enamel decor front fell off the disc.  It was a shame, because in person I really liked this necklace =(

Finally, those sock looking things you see in the pic way above are shoe liners from Lemon.  They were just an extra thrown in from LBB and I can always use extras!

So, the broken necklace… what happened.

How about I emailed them, sent them a pic and no questions asked they let me pick a jewelry item of the same value and are shipping it to me as we speak.  No opening a new bag to get it, no paying shipping… I don’t even have to send the broken item back to them!  Correspondence was lightning fast, super helpful and polite.  Bravo, Little Black Bag!  You make me want to buy things from you all day, all my life.

For the replacement I chose this necklace by Carol Dauplaise:

How do you think I did this month?  Considering their Customer Service is so on point I’d say I did pretty darn good ;)
