Alicia Keys & Kiehl’s join to help Keep a Child Alive

Kiehl’s to Donate 100% of net profits of its
Limited Edition Midnight Recovery Concentrate to Keep a Child Alive

3605975053920_1ozBottle_MidnightRecoveryConcentrateNEW YORK, NY, DECEMBER 26, 2013: Kiehl’s Since 1851, 14-time Grammy Award winning artist and philanthropist Alicia Keys, and Keep a Child Alive, the organization Keys co-founded in 2003, are partnering to bring dignified treatment, care and support to children and families affected by HIV. Beginning December 26, 2013, Kiehl’s will begin selling a special edition of their Midnight Recovery Concentrate with 100% of the net profits, up to $200,000, benefiting Keep a Child Alive.  The special edition designed bottle includes an important call to action from Alicia Keys to, “Join our movement,” echoing her continued drive to encourage everyone to use their voice for change and make a difference in the fight against AIDS.

72% of children who need HIV treatment are not receiving it.  By purchasing the special edition Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the public can join the movement and help get HIV treatment and loving care to children who need it most. Buying one bottle of Midnight Recovery Concentrate helps Keep a Child Alive provide one month of HIV care, medicines, and love to a child living with HIV.

Beyond treatment, there are many critical aspects of this HIV care: transportation to clinics; healthy meals that often are the primary meal of the day; fun activities for children to help them live positively and deal with the challenges of life with HIV; essential skills training for women so they can financially support their children going forward.

“Keep a Child Alive is working towards a world where everyone can lead fulfilling lives, regardless of their HIV status,” shares Alicia Keys“Supportive partners like Kiehl’s are part of our extended family. They share our passion for bringing dignified treatment, care and support to children and families affected by HIV. Every action, big or small can make a difference and take us one step closer in making health care a human right.”

“Kiehl’s has a longstanding heritage of working to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic with our work beginning in the 1980’s, when it was taboo to even talk about the disease.  Just in the past 10 years, we have raised more than $2,500,000 for the cause,” shares Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl’s USA.  “We are proud to continue this important philanthropic work with Keep a Child Alive, an effective, on-the-ground, organization built on the foundation that every person has the right to health care and that all children deserve a future.”

“Keep a Child Alive is different.  We are a small, nimble organization, which allows us to go where the need is greatest and to support community-owned solutions,” states Peter Twyman, CEO of Keep a Child Alive.  “We move boldly and with urgency in our work, and, with Alicia Keys as our Global Ambassador, we use our voice to raise awareness and rally resources to ensure that children, families, and communities live with dignity and have hope for their future. And our partnerships with companies such as Kiehl’s are so important for the work we do. We couldn’t do it without them.”

While great advances in the treatment of HIV/AIDS have been made in the past decade—with 54% of adults now getting treatment in low and middle income countries compared to the 0.13% ten years ago—AIDS remains one of the world’s most serious health challenges. Statistics also show that without HIV treatment, half of the children living with HIV will die by the age of two, and 80% by the age of five. Over 16 million children have been orphaned due to AIDS.  As the startling statistics above make clear, there is still a lot of work to do to help children and families whose lives continue to be dramatically impacted by the virus.

Midnight Recovery Concentrate – a Kiehl’s customer favorite with 1 product sold every minute globally – is a potent concentration of botanical extracts specifically formulated to biologically replicate skin’s natural lipids for optimal skin repair throughout the night. This powerful concentrate is 99% naturally-derived and paraben-free. Affectionately referred to as “MRC” by Kiehl’s devotees, Midnight Recovery Concentrate is 99% naturally-derived and developed as an anhydrous (“water-free”), unconventional concentration of active botanical and essential oils that begin to work overnight to replenish lipids for a fresher and more radiant appearance by morning.

Kiehl’s Holiday Supports No Kid Hungry – NEW Limited Edition Fragrances

Kiehl'sMaintaining its long-standing tradition of supporting children’s charities, Kiehl’s, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care, is pleased to announce a collaboration to lend a helping hand to children in need. With the shared vision to end childhood hunger in America, the Kiehl’s and Share Our Strength partnership will raise awareness though the sale of two NEW Limited Edition scents of its iconic Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter. 100% of net profits, up to $100,000, from the sale of each scent will be donated to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.

CDC_Whipped_8oz_081413_GrapefruitNo child should grow up hungry in America, but one in five children struggles with hunger. With the support of partners like Kiehl’s, the No Kid Hungry campaign is ending childhood hunger in the United States by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day. By connecting kids in need with nutritious food and teaching their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals, the No Kid Hungry campaign surrounds children with healthy food where they live, learn and play.

Having raised over $600,000 through previous charitable holiday initiatives, Kiehl’s invited 11-year old Sofie Shore, the daughter of Share Our Strength co-founder, Debbie Shore, to continue the tradition by designing its 5th Annual Limited Edition Creme de Corps Holiday label. 100% of net profits will support the No Kid Hungry campaign’s efforts to end childhood hunger in the United States.

For the first time ever, Kiehl’s sinfully addictive Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter will be available in two iconic limited edition scents: Grapefruit and Coriander.

This ultra-creamy, yet luxuriously whipped formula is quickly absorbed to help skin retain its natural moisture balance by preventing moisture loss. Ideal as an everyday body cream – especially after showering – the ultra-light formula contains a healthy dose of Beta Carotene and Vitamin E, known for their antioxidant benefits that help to protect the skin against damaging free radicals. Kiehl’s signature ingredient, Squalane, is a highly refined moisturizing oil derived from the olive that is extremely compatible with skin’s own natural lipids.

Kiehl's2Sofie Shore is not like other 11-year-olds – she is an exceptional child. As Debbie’s daughter, philanthropy has always been a part of Sofie’s life and upbringing. Sofie has travelled extensively with Debbie to many Share Our Strength meetings and functions around the country, including the organization’s annual Conference of Leaders every year, since she was an infant.

While her more standard hobbies include art, soccer, music and making videos, Sofie has fundraised for the No Kid Hungry campaign through a lemonade stand in Maine, and has volunteered at a Share Our Strength Bake Sale in Washington, D.C. One major highlight for Sofie was helping staff the No Kid Hungry campaign table at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

“As we learned more about Share Our Strength’s effort to end childhood hunger in America through its No Kid Hungry campaign, we were immediately compelled to join in their efforts, as it aligns with our mission to support our nation’s children,” said Chris Salgardo, president, Kiehl’s USA.  “As we continued to learn more about the organization from co-founder Debbie Shore and all of the work that her 11-year-old daughter Sofie does for the organization, it was an easy choice to ask her to design a label to further raise awareness and funds for the cause.”

Top 10 Tuesday – My Favorite Cream Beauty Products

Cream Beauty Products is a pretty broad topic.  When I first began to think of and pull my favorite items I noticed I was focusing way too much on just makeup, when cream can apply to all areas of beauty.  Because of this, I chose to involve some hair and skin products as well that I absolutely love!

For this Top 10 Tuesday, please enjoy my Favorite Cream Beauty Products (in no particular order!).

  1. Living Proof Nourishing Styling Cream – I love this so much I bought the super size and have contemplating writing in to the company about possibly making a jug of it.  If it was safe to do and would still benefit my hair, I’d drink it.  Kills frizz fast.  WOOT.
  2. Le Metier de Beaute Colour Core Moisture Stain LipstickSan Tropez has been a go-to peachy nude lip color for me for as long as I can remember.  Smooth and pigmented, perfect for my tone… just can’t go wrong if I grab this.
  3. Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme – I feel like you can’t talk about one LMdB lip product without including another.  Cafe Creme works well with San Tropez for a lovely nude, sultry lip.  Bonus: Not sticky in the least!
  4. Miracle Skin Transformer Face – Are you tired of hearing me talk about this yet?  Creamy, easy to apply, helps makeup last all day.  If it could cook I’d marry it.  It also comes in a version for acne prone skin that I also love.
  5. Chanel Le Blush Cream de Chanel – This is a recent release from Chanel but it’s captured my heart so much I’ve already ordered another shade!  Presage is shown above, and limited edition, get it fast!
  6. Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream – The perfect coverage, a lovely airbrushed look without appearing heavy.  Missha BB Cream has a permanent place in my stash.
  7. IT Cosmetics Bye, Bye Undereye – This concealer will blow your mind.  Did you ever dot concealer over a red area or imperfection and you’re like… um that didn’t really cover so well.  This won’t happen with Bye Bye Undereye.  A small dab will coat everything you need and more and is easy to buff and blend.
  8. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow – Seriously.  If I’d have known how in love I’d be with this Seashore Frosts I’d have bought at least five of them.  I use it at least once a week.  There is no shade out there quite like it and it works well with so many colors.  Plus, the formula is amazing.
  9. Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer – This product, along with the Anti Bac Clearing Lotion, saved my face from looking like I just turned 13 (Acne!).  I should actually do a post on the products because they’ve been a godsend.  I like to use them in between testing new skin care (because not all skin care works well for me and my sensitive, hormonal, acne prone skin – thank you, having babies).
  10. Kiehl’s Creme de Corps – This is the limited edition bottle from the Holiday 2012 LE Kenny Scharf release.  This stuff is creamy, velvety smooth and doesn’t make my skin itch or react.  It leaves me moisturized and supple.  A love!

In hindsight, I’m thinking… darn I didn’t include nail polish!  WTF, beauty blogger.  That list would be ridiculously extensive, so let’s just pretend I spared you.

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Favorite Cream Beauty Products!  Check out what the other bloggers love to use and tell us what your faves are!
