The PANTONE Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid. But you knew that. What may be a bit confusing are all of the “variations” of Radiant Orchid. PANTONE lists the color as “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones”. So, while the swatch in the link may look rather mid-tone lilac to you (confession, it does to me) that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to stick 100% to the picture. As some brands have shown, the Radiant Orchid color is loosely interpreted. Which brings me to today’s post – Top 10 Ways to Get Radiant With Orchid.
Now, normally I’m a little too gung-ho with the limited edition high-end products, so for this post I made sure to incorporate very affordable slash accessible but accurate ways to get that Radiant Orchid look.
In no particular order:
Wet N Wild. For a long time WnW has proven they’re in it to win it in a big way. While still remaining extremely affordable the quality has skyrocketed making them a major leader in the land of drugstore makeup. Some of my picks for the Radiant Orchid Category are the Petal Pusher Eyeshadow Palette and V.I.Pink Perfect Pout Lip Color.
CoverGirl. I got to try out the Flamed Out Shadow Pots while I was #NAILGATING and I loved the formula! Of course for the Radiant Orchid post I needed to get my hands on 340 Blazing Purple, which, IMO, is dead on for the actual shade of RO.
Beauty Addicts. This brand was a hidden gem for me. I got a few products sent over recently and thought they were absolutely perfect for the Radiant Orchid post. SolutionEYES in Motivate Eyeshadow Quad and Lip Addiction in Tease & Fierce are now some of my favorite shades of purples, and will be even beyond 2014!
Eddie Funkhouser. Two of my recently reviewed items from Eddie are totally applicable to this Radiant Orchid trend. Be sure to click the link to see how to get the look using Bedroom Eyes Hyperreal Eye Color Palette & Peep Show Ultra Intensity Cheek Color.
Pop Beauty. Peony Petal may be a bit deeper than what you’d think of for Radiant Orchid, but I totally think it belongs within the category. It’s got that purpley pink mix to it, and a wide variety of people can pull it off!
Laura Mercier. Pink Prism probably looks super bold in the tube, BUT on the lips it’s subtle and shiny with a hint of the beauty of Radiant Orchid.
China Glaze. Of course, every brand will have at the very least one shade (likely many shades) that will be able to be placed in the Radiant Orchid category. China Glaze came to mind because I just swatched The Sea Goddess Collection and Wish on a Starfish and Tail Me Something could easily fall into this line up.
Marc Jacobs. The Tease 202 Style Eye-Con No.7 – Plush Shadow immediately came to mind (it’s not pictured, I’m in the middle of moving into an in home office space and a lot of palettes are piled up in a cabinet). As you can tell, if you clicked the link, this is full of variations of Radiant Orchid.
If all else fails, Number 10, head over to Sephora where, as usual, they’ve partnered up with PANTONE UNIVERSE to provide you with the mecca of all things “Color of the Year”. I’m kind of wanting that liquid eyeliner…
What’s nice about the 2014 Color of the Year is that the variations make it possible for everyone to find a flattering shade. Warm and Cool Toned alike, you can all wear Radiant Orchid.
What is your favorite “Radiant Orchid” Beauty Product?
CoverGirl is well known across the beauty world as always having some pretty awesome mascaras. Very Black Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara is the latest and is available in four shades – Very Black 800, Black 805, Black Brown 810 and Brown 815.
On the eye below I used one coat of Step 1 followed by one coat of Step 2. While I don’t think my lashes scream out about me being a Bombshell (but let’s face it, everyone knows I am anyway haha) I did think that this is a nice every day type of mascara for me. It coated the lashes well and did an awesome job lengthening.
What is your take on the CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara?
CoverGirl Very Black Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara retails for $8.99 (approx.) and is available at your local drugstore/mass market retailer.
No matter how much makeup you put on your face, mascara is one of those products that finishes off not only your eye look, but completes your entire face as well.
Below I’ve compiled my Top 10 Must-Have Mascaras. These are the products and wands that work the best for me and my particular lashes. Some of these I’ve used consistently for over three years or more (replacing the actual mascara itself, of course!). Check them out and see if any of your faves made my list!
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. $10 gets you amazing bottom lashes to match your high-voltage upper lashes that you’ll get by using the rest of the mascaras on this list Bottom Lash is awesome because the brush is tiny and gets all of those hard to reach lash areas on the top and bottom of your lids.
Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant. If you ever needed the perfect lengthening mascara, you’ve found it right here. This looks great on it’s own, but when you put Too Faced Better Than Sex on top the effect is amazing!
MAC Plushlash in PlushBlack. Separates, curls, thickens and lengthens. No matter how many mascaras I love, this one always ends up being the mascara I go back to for daily use.
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill. The brush is thick, giving lashes a lot of oomph. I love that this one never flakes or smudges all day. Very long lasting! There are several versions of this mascara, but I’ve found I like the original one the best.
CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher. It just does not clump. When this came out bloggers even tried THIRTY coats! Not only will it keep your lashes clump-free, but they’ll look awesome too!
Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara. I discovered this one when I was in the 2012 Allure Beauty Blogger of the Year competition. For the purposes of the competition we were sent a huge box of products to assist in the challenges. This mascara is one I still use to this day!
Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam. My first Rimmel product! This came in an Influenster VoxBox and is now a staple for me. The brush is in an hourglass shape and just does amazing things to my lashes. Coating well for thickening, but doesn’t go clump crazy.
