Color Club ABYSS, BRIGHT NIGHT Nail Polish Swatches & Review – Kaleidoscope Summer 2013

Press Sample

Color Club has six fun Summer nail polish shades for the 2013 Kaleidoscope Collection!  In addition to the two featured today, Abyss and Bright Night, four others are also available in Endless, Evolution, In Theory and Pearl-Spective.

IMG_6414Abyss

IMG_6320Abyss is hard to describe in terms of color.  I want to say teal, but it’s more like when teal ate turquoise lol if that doesn’t make me sound crazy I don’t know what would.  Anyway, the formula was pretty decent, the swatch above is one coat… we all know how much I love that!

Bright Night

IMG_6408Bright Night is a vivid and neon cobalt blue.  The formula was a bit runny and definitely needed two coats to be even.  But darned if that color isn’t a stunner.

How are you liking the new Color Club Summer polishes?

Color Club Nail Polish retail for $8.00 each and are available on the website.

Color Club KISMET, COSMIC FATE Nail Polish Swatches & Review – Halo Hues 2013

It’s safe to say that holo’s make just about any nail polish lover get a little weak in the knees.  The new collection from Color Club, Halo Hues, will have you craving the whole set and caving in for purchase (I know I’m mad I didn’t buy them all!).

The 2013 Halo Hues Collection features six polishes.  Locally, I can’t find these anywhere.  I had to resort to eBay for my ordering, and picked two of my faves based off of swatches – Kismet and Cosmic Fate.

IMG_4270(in shade, with flash)

Cosmic Fate – Peachy Pink Holo

IMG_4281(in full sun, no flash)

IMG_4309(in shade, with flash)

I used two coats for each polish and found that the formula was just thin enough to spread easily but still coat well.  The linear holo effect in these polishes is absolutely stunning, you won’t be able to stop staring at your fingernails!

Color Club Halo Hues nail polishes retail for $10.00 each.  I purchased these two on eBay.

February 2013 Birchbox Review & Photos

The February Birchbox has me feeling a little indifferent.  I like the items, but I can’t say I’m thrilled with this month’s box as a whole.  The Color Club Nail Polish probably saved it.  But now I’m getting ahead of myself….

IMG_6155As you open the box there is a card resting on top of the tissue paper that tells you about the theme of the February Box (which is Red Carpet Ready) and on the back tells you what is inside.

IMG_6158 IMG_6164Under the tissue paper are this month’s goodies!

IMG_6170 IMG_6176First, from Color Club, the Nail Polish in Wild Cactus.  This jelly emerald shade looks even more stunning in person than it does in the photo.  The formula was phenomenal and it was perfectly opaque in two coats.

IMG_6607Next, from Lancome, the Le Base Pro Makeup Primer.  It says this is oil-free, but I thought it felt rather oily.  It didn’t seem to settle into my skin quickly at all and left it feeling slick.  I wasn’t a fan of this, which is a shame because I usually love all that is Lancome.

Third we have the Miss Jessie’s Original Pillow Soft.  This is a lotion for curly hair to help fight frizz and keep curls soft.  My hair does have some wave to it, but generally I don’t do it up curly.  However, this is a nice product to use on those lazy days.  I thought it did leave my hair feeling lovely and soft, but it didn’t make it wave or curl really well.  For that I stick to my surf spray!

Fourth is the Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator.  It sounds like a machine!  This exfoliating cleanser smells fresh and left my skin feeling soft.  The professional-grade microderm crystals and papaya enzymes are said to brighten the skin, though after one use I didn’t notice much difference.  Unfortunately, I only received a sample size of this product, probably good for three uses, and I don’t think a huge difference would show by then.

Finally, as a treat, this months Birchbox included a yummy Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate & Caramel Square.  Um, YUM.  Every Birchbox should include Ghirardelli.  Happy dance!

Like I said, I wasn’t totally disappointed, but I was left wanting for more.  I think mostly because some of these items were things I had no desire to try.  Overall, I’m usually happy with whatever Birchbox throws my way, and it’s certainly not so bad I’d cancel… but I’m really hoping March steps it up a notch *fingers crossed*.  Usually after one that has me going “wtf” a really amazing one pops up.

Fashion Show NOTD Featuring Maybelline Ruby Rhinestones Sequins by Color Show Nail Polish & Sapphire Jewels Fashion Prints Nail Stickers Swatches & Review

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you saw a lot of Fashion Spam from last night (full post to come!).  For this Fashion Show I wanted a fun and funky mani, so I looked to some products from Maybelline New York to create the look.

045Since I went kind of rock and roll on my makeup and outfit, I decided to take the new Fashion Prints Nail Stickers ($7.99 each) and just put them on my ring fingers as an accent nail, and then paint Ruby Rhinestones Sequins by Color Show ($3.99 each) on all of my other nails.  Because Ruby Rhinestones has a sheer base I painted it over top of Color Club Berry and Bright.

046The Fashion Prints Nail Stickers applied really easily and contain a small file and cuticle stick.  They adhered well and I didn’t have to worry about them peeling off or looking fake.  The file was a little rough so the tip looked a bit worn after I was done, however if you use a different file and are careful it’ll be fine.

The Ruby Rhinestones Sequins by Color Show truly looks like sequins with the different sized hex glitters & regular glitters in a saturated maroon shade.  I used one coat over top of the Color Club.  Check out swatches of this polish alone over at Glitter.Gloss.Garbage.

Purchase Maybelline Fashion Prints Nail Stickers and Sequins by Color Show in mass market retailers nationwide as special limited-edition collections.

Holiday Nail Fun with Color Club Berry and Bright & Finger Paints Santa’s Magic Nail Polish Swatches & Review

A week or two ago I ran into my local Sally Beauty Supply in search of my favorite hair brush.  Which, incidentally, they no longer carry.  However, the trip was not wasted!  The holiday polishes are out in full force, and I scored some good ones!

After much perusing the two holiday 2012 shades I decided on were Color Club Berry and Bright and Finger Paints Santa’s Magic.

I thought they’d be fun to layer and do a bit of “art” with.  I ended up falling in love with the look and this is a front runner for my Christmas Day mani.

Color Club Berry and Bright is a beautiful foil metallic berry shade.  It is scented and smells lovely.  But, the best part?  ONE COAT.

Finger Paints Santa’s Magic, aside from having an awesome and very fitting name, has a clear base with holo hex glitters of all sizes.  It actually coated really well.  I put one coat over the whole nail then dabbed a bit more near the tops of the nail after that dried.

I’m basically in love.  What nail polish colors do you like to wear to be festive?

September 2012 Birchbox Photos and Thoughts

So, um… this Birchbox was kind of underwhelming.  It’s not BAD and doesn’t make me want to cancel or anything… but compared to what has been arriving, the September Birchbox is pretty sad.

As you open the box, you’ll see that there is a mini-magazine, Fall Look Book sort of deal.  Inside there are fall trends as well as tips on face, color, hair, etc.

Underneath… the goods.

First off, from Caudalie, Vinexpert Firming Serum.  Apparently the “wrinkle-fighting wonder”.  It feels okay on and smells really good.  I don’t have a ton of wrinkles (yet… my kids are trying, though) and the sample isn’t big enough for an actual testing period, but it’s fun to be preventative.

Next, from Color Club, a Birchbox Custom Polish.  There are several shades that went out, but the one I got is marked as Status Uptade.  Though, I think it should read Status Update.  At first I was disappointed, because I had wanted Insta-This, but this color is really pretty on – a charcoal grey cream, and the formula is amazing.  You really only need one thick coat (though I have two on in the swatch photo).

Third, from Sedu, Anti-Frizz Polishing Treatment with Pure Argan Oil.  Works like any other Argan Oil… smooth shine and perfect.  Don’t over use so you don’t look like you dipped your head in the car engine.

Fourth, a Birchbox Custom Lace Hair Tie from Twistband.  I adore these things.  They never pull my hair out or give me a headache.  Lace is so hot right now, too, so it’s like the best of both worlds for your hair ;)

Finally, WEI to Go Sleep Over Kit – which includes a gel cleanser and then a moisturizing face tint.  Unfortunately, the cleanser is listed as oil-infused, so I won’t be using it.  Lord knows I don’t need more oil to collect on my face.  I have enough problems lol

Two extras were included this month.  A Lifestyle Extra of a tili bag.  It’s basically just a heavy duty, fanciful baggie for your goods.  IDK what I’d use it for.  It’s cute but I wouldn’t pay retail (Pack of 9-12 is $8.49-$9.49) for a pack of them.  The second extra is a Digital Download of two of Tristan Prettyman’s songs.  I love that Birchbox does this for relatively unknown artists.  Pretty cool =)

I’m not completely disappointed with the September Birchbox, but it’s not something I’m going to rave about.  Luckily, the other months MORE than make up for it and it absolutely worth the $10 a month.

Also, I got a little extra gift!  Apparently, I’ve been a member for 13 months!  In honor of the anniversary, I was gifted a little key chain =)

July 2012 Birchbox Photos and Thoughts – Glamour Edition

I have had the July Birchbox sitting here for a few days to do an open box video, but I’ve just come off of vacation and have been fighting exhaustion.  Of course, as soon as I felt better the weather took a turn for the worse and it’s not ideal filming weather.  Let’s be honest, I have enough problems with lighting… so we’re going old school!  Photos it is!

Basically this is a pretty bad “A” Birchbox.  I love when I open them and they have me feeling giddy!!!  They’ve been decent the past couple of months (click here to see the June Open Box Video), and are totally worth the $10 (including shipping!) that they cost per month.

For July 2012, Birchbox has teamed up with Glamour Magazine to celebrate the five senses of Summer!

Starting off “smelling it” we have Eau d’Hadrien by Annick Goutal.  It’s soft and citrusy, very easy on the nose.  I love the smell of this right when I put it on, but it fades quickly.

Moving on to what I imagine is “see it” we have the Boscia B.B. Cream SPF 27 PA+++.  As you’ll see in the swatch photo below, it didn’t seem to completely blend into the underside of my arm (which refutes it saying it adjusts to your skin tone) but it did blend into my face rather well (which is obviously a little darker).  I don’t think pale faced beauties would be able to pull this one off.  I’d love to know what WOC and the gals paler than me thought about the “adjustment” process of this product!

Another “see it” or maybe a “smell it” because the scent is uber strong… from Color Club we have Blue-Ming Nail Polish.  Tiffany blue is one of my fave shades, and this bright cream coats well and is right up my alley!  I can’t resist a mini-anything either!

A gorgeous addition to “see it” is a Lip Glaze from Stila in the shade Action.  You can find this shade in the Limited Edition It’s Go Time Lip Glaze Trio.  It’s a gorgeous plum raspberry shade with a TON of golden shimmer.  Pretty attention grabbing and a great shade for Fall!

Finally there were not one, but TWO Lifestyle Extras in this box.

From Tea Forte we get a canister of minteas in Lime Mojito.  Admittedly, I’m not the hugest fan of anything lime, so I’m probably not the go to person for this.. but I thought they were nasty.  This makes me sad, because I love keeping mints in my purse.  There are several flavors listed on the Birchbox website, even a Chai, which would have been more my speed.

The second Liftstyle Extra is definitely a “hear it” and is a pair of Earbuds.  I have a hard time getting earbuds to stay in my ears and these are no different.  However, my hubby loves them.  He just needs to get over the fact that they are pink, because they work really well lol.

An amazing box for July!  YAY, Birchbox!!!!  Please collaborate with Glamour more often!  When you mesh, good things happen!

Color Club VERY MERRY BERRY and SUGAR PLUM YUM Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Recently I went to my local Sally Beauty on the hunt for the new China Glaze collection.  They didn’t have it yet, but imagine my THRILL to see a COLOR CLUB display!  I have never seen Color Club at Sally Beauty, and the manager told me this is the first collection they’ve ever gotten.  I really hope they continue to get them, these polishes are so nice and I don’t have anywhere locally that sells them.

The two polishes I bring you today are from a scented holiday collection from Color Club, Very Merry Berry and Sugar Plum Yum.

Both of these polishes are extremely pretty.  Each is scented with a sheer base and random different sized glitters throughout.  I noticed with both that once you got to 4 coats it basically never dried and you could just rub it right off.  I recommend stopping at 2 coats and layering over your favorite coordinating polish so that your mani isn’t immediately ruined.  You COULD go to 3 coats for a nearly opaque coverage of glitter.  Be warned, you have to maneuver these glitters.

Very Merry Berry

Very Merry Berry is a mix of fuchsia and blue glitters.  There appears to be 3 different sizes of glitter and I found them very easy to apply and maneuver.  This has a wonderful berry scent, but don’t sniff until it’s completely dry or you’re going to get a nose-full of lacquer smell.  In the swatch photo above the top finger has 4 coats, the middle finger has 3 coats, the ring finger has 2 coats, and the pinkie finger has 1 coat.

Sugar Plum Yum

Sugar Plum Yum is a mix of purple and green glitters, totally reminding me of Mardi Gras!  This also appears to have 3 different sizes of glitter, but was not as easy to coat and maneuver as Very Merry Berry.  This plummy scent isn’t all that yummy…. but it’s ok, just not my fave.  In the swatch photo above the top finger has 4 coats, the middle finger has 3 coats, the ring finger has 2 coats, and the pinkie finger has 1 coat.

These Color Club Nail Polishes were found at Sally Beauty Supply and I paid $4.49 each with my Beauty Club Card.  There were also several other shades, but I’m unsure of what they are or what the collection is.  I’ve emailed Color Club and update this post ASAP with any additional information.

Edit – Directly from Color Club! – - “The collection is called Scent-cuous Scents collection. We did it exclusively for Sally’s. There are six colors in the collection.  We are hoping that this will be the beginning of a long term relationship with them.”

EEK!  I will DIE if Color Club comes to Sally’s!  YAY!!!!!!
