April 2014 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

Another month and I’m still with Birchbox! I must say, between this month and last I’m happy my cancellation didn’t go through. Hopefully it’ll keep up like this! The theme for the April 2014 Birchbox is Rainy Days, which is referencing April Showers bringing (hopfully) May flowers.

Birchbox April 2014 Rainy DaysAs you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.

Birchbox April 2014 ContentsLet’s see what’s going on for April!

Birchbox April 2013 Review PhotosFrom Anastasia Beverly Hills, Clear Brow Gel. I love this brow gel. I’ve got a full size here and the brush/tube are fantastic. It pulls up just enough product and doesn’t leave a bunch of wet gel clumps in your brow hair. While this size is just a mini it’ll be perfect for when I travel to NYC next month.

From Color Club, Breakfast at… Nail Polish. I loveeeee getting nail polish, especially these adorable mini sizes. Birchbox teamed up with style blogger Gala Gonzalez to create this particular shade and I love it! Breakfast at… is a beautiful mint pearl shade. Two coats.

Color Club Breakfast at... Nail Polish SwatchesFrom Paula’s Choice, 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant. This feels great on my skin! My skin is sensitive so I only use it once a week, but there is definitely a difference even after only using it once. I’ll likely buy the full size once I run out of this.

From Supergoop!, Daily Correct SPF35 CC Cream. I received the shade light/medium but it’s stated to be self-adjusting. At first I thought it would be way too dark but it really did adjust! I wish the sample size wasn’t so small. It’s laughably small.. maybe two uses if you’re lucky and use sparingly.

And, as a Lifestyle Extra, from KIND Snacks, Healthy Grains Bar – Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt. I love to get these in sample boxes. These bars aren’t something I’d jump to buy normally, but I usually love the taste. This particular flavor tasted fantastic but had a chewy, stale type of texture that I wasn’t a fan of.

Birchbox April 2014 Swatches Review PhotosThere was also a “tip” from 52 Bright Ideas for a Rainy Day. My tip number was 37 which told me to treat myself to a facial and other pamperings. It’s a once a week type thing that reminds you to do something for yourself.

Birchbox April 2014 TipsI was happy with this months shipment. If Birchbox keeps it up I might just fall back in love! I do believe it was worth $10 and it was a nice mix of makeup, nail, food and skin care. I’m definitely looking forward to next months shipment!

November 2013 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

Last month I was semi-pleased with Birchbox, so I kept my subscription alive.  TBH it’s like a relationship… you’ve been in it so long and that makes it hard to quit.  They even gave me chocolate this month.

Birchbox packagingThe theme for November is More Good.  Makes sense, being that this is the month of Thanksgiving.  For this month a portion of the proceeds from the Birchbox Shop will be going to No Kid Hungry, which is a nationwide organization that works to end childhood hunger.

November 2013 Birchbox Contents open boxbirchbox November 2013From Aloxxi, ColourCare Volumizing & Strengthening Shampoo and also the Volumizing Conditioner.  Let me just start this off by saying THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING!  I have been whining every freaking month at multiple subscription boxes about getting just shampoo or just conditioner… which actually state on the back that for the best results use with the coordinating product.  How can I accurately say if it works well if I can’t even follow the dang directions?!  In any event, I’m so flipping happy right now that I have a set of bottles (not packets, yay!) full of product that smells amazing (think salon washed hair), paraben free and protects color and makes my hair look and feel awesome.  Love you, definitely need the full sizes.

From Chella, the Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil.  This pencil is pretty smooth and blends well.  When it’s blended out it’s the exact shade of my skin and gives it a nice glow.  It says that this pencil can be applied 10 different ways to highlight as well as hide.  I think I’d personally love this the most at the brows to give a lift as well in the cupids bow.  Since it blends so seamlessly it’ll be like nothing is there except fabulousness. There is also a shade in Latte available, which is a bit darker, but is only recommended towards medium skin tones.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter pencil SwatchesFrom Color Club, Baldwin Blues Nail Polish.  This shade is from the Harlem Lights Collection and actually appears a bit more of muted blue in person.  The shade is not your average navy blue cream… there’s just something more about it.  Only one coat was needed for full and even coverage but for the photo below I added another “just in case” coat.  Fabulous formula!

Color club Baldwin Blues nail polish swatchesAs a Lifestyle Extra a Chocolate Covered Pretzel from Fatty Sundays was also included with this months goodies.  Pretty dang decadent, and I wouldn’t mind getting these every month *hint hint*

This months Birchbox was decent.  It’s hard to get super excited about it when ipsy is so wonderfully generous in what they give their subscribers every month for the same price.  For this month I did feel like the Birchbox was worth the $10 but is clearly not as knock your socks off as ipsy.

In regards to continuing my subscription I’ll keep it going into next month.  I seriously love to get mail.  My mom will attest to that.

IMG_6489Pearl District is a lovely metallic antique gold with a very slight olive tint.  The formula was a little thin but thankfully not too streaky.  Below is three coats.

Color Club Pearl DistrictWicker Park is a pastel lilac cream.  The formula was okay, but It was a little on the thick side and hard to get even.  I needed three coats for full opacity.

Color Club Wicker ParkI’m dying to get my hands on The Uptown!  What about you?

August 2013 Wantable Beauty Box Swatches & Review

Press Sample/Referral Links

IMG_3887Wantable is a new subscription service aimed to provide curated, hand-picked boutique makeup (from brands such as Lise Watier, Cailyn, Color Club and Japonesque – just to name a few!) and jewelry items.

The best part about Wantable is that everything is full sized!  You’re not going to receive any samples or small sizes of makeup and the jewelry will be customized and also limited edition items.

Wantable is the most customized subscription service I’ve ever come across, and they actually take into account what you log in to their “quiz”.  Because it’s so customizable, you’ll likely never see the same box within blog reviews.  Start out by choosing a category – makeup or jewelry (I chose makeup but it was seriously hard to decide, because jewelry is also a HUGE love of mine!).  Then you take the personalized style quiz.  This is fabulous because if you hate receiving eyeliners, you won’t get them.  Ever.  Same goes for nail polish, lip products, mascara…. anything!  You could say you like eye shadow and hate everything else, and you’d get a whole box of eye shadows!

wantable2Now, let’s see how Wantable did with customization on my August Box.  As you open it up everything is packaged nicely and you also get a little run down of what is inside your box as well as some info on the included brands.

IMG_3897 IMG_3912From Echo Vie, an All Natural Lip Balm.  In the post it’s pink, but there’s really no color when applied to the lips.  It’s very light and hydrating, you can also taste and feel the peppermint.  (swatched below next to the Lise Watier, but you can just see a slight shine).

From Lise Watier, the Haute Couleur High Coverage Lip Lacquer in Rouge Catwalk.  I have been dying to try out products from the Lise Watier line and this lip gloss did not disappoint.  It applied beautifully, was not sticky and lasted until I started to eat or drink.  It also boasts slight shimmer and high shine.  Oh, and what’s a perfect gloss without some interior LED lighting and a mirror on the side? (swatched below).

IMG_3920IMG_3942(L-R: Susan Posnick Color Eye Define in Jasper/Sandstone, Au Naturale Eye Pencil in Amethyst, Echo Vie Lip Balm and Lise Watier Lip Lacquer in Rouge Catwalk)

From Susan Posnick, the Color Eye Define in Jasper/Sandstone.  This product is so perfect and easy for a simple eye.  The liner part works as a shadow as well and is easy to smudge and blend.  The shadow is neutral and only slightly shimmery.  Very travel-friendly.

IMG_3980From Au Naturale, the Eye Pencil in Amethyst.  This pencil applied easily and was very precise, however the pigment wasn’t as deep as I’d usually like.  I’d probably put this over-top of a black liner to make it a little different and bold.

From Japonesque, the Travel Smudger Brush.  I love brushes like this and the smaller size makes it ideal for putting a bit of shadow underneath the lower lash line.

From Color Club, Metallic Nail Polish in Lumin-icecent.   This is a silver metallic polish loaded with silver shimmer.  I’m pretty sure nothing glows like this.  It took three coats for full and even opacity, but it’s well worth it.

IMG_5473I actually ended up receiving my Wantable box with one item missing, so when they sent me the missing item I got a few extra goodies (read: amazing customer service), which is awesome because now I have more Wantable beauty goodies to show you!  Please note, the extras send with the Cailyn pencil I was missing are just sample sizes and have no retail value, I just wanted to share them =)

IMG_4735From Lise Watier, the Ombre Souffle Supreme Sample.  The two shades I got were Sunrise Peach and Vert Enchante.  These were so silky and easy to blend and use.  I recommend using a secondary base because these did crease slightly on me, but most shadows do… so you might be okay using these alone as a base.  (swatched below).

From Cailyn, the Linefix Gel Pencil in Black.  This is what was missing from my shipment, and I’m so glad that the customer service is excellent and they were able to send it along! It’s so perfect to line with and doesn’t budge (swatched below).

IMG_4747I also received a sample of the Echo Vie Organic Body Oil Sample (which has 10 premium essential oils used to naturally uplift, relieve fatigue, stress and anxiety.  It can be used as a moisturizer, bath oil, massage oil, or in your hair.  Oh, and it smells really good); and Frownies Eye Gels, which I’m so excited about because I loved them when I originally reviewed!  Can’t hurt to use them again!

Subscribe for $36 a month or, if you just want to try one month it’s a flat fee of $40.  You’ll get an assortment of items valued at $80 or more.  You can also invite your friends and earn referral credits!  For each person that signs up you get $1 and when their box ships you’ll get $9 more for a total of $10 per person!

Will you try out the service?  If you’ve gotten them in the past, let me know what you think!!!

Color Club ABYSS, BRIGHT NIGHT Nail Polish Swatches & Review – Kaleidoscope Summer 2013

Press Sample

Color Club has six fun Summer nail polish shades for the 2013 Kaleidoscope Collection!  In addition to the two featured today, Abyss and Bright Night, four others are also available in Endless, Evolution, In Theory and Pearl-Spective.

IMG_6414Abyss

IMG_6320Abyss is hard to describe in terms of color.  I want to say teal, but it’s more like when teal ate turquoise lol if that doesn’t make me sound crazy I don’t know what would.  Anyway, the formula was pretty decent, the swatch above is one coat… we all know how much I love that!

Bright Night

IMG_6408Bright Night is a vivid and neon cobalt blue.  The formula was a bit runny and definitely needed two coats to be even.  But darned if that color isn’t a stunner.

How are you liking the new Color Club Summer polishes?

Color Club Nail Polish retail for $8.00 each and are available on the website.
