Another month and I’m still with Birchbox! I must say, between this month and last I’m happy my cancellation didn’t go through. Hopefully it’ll keep up like this! The theme for the April 2014 Birchbox is Rainy Days, which is referencing April Showers bringing (hopfully) May flowers.

Birchbox April 2014 Rainy DaysAs you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.

Birchbox April 2014 ContentsLet’s see what’s going on for April!

Birchbox April 2013 Review PhotosFrom Anastasia Beverly Hills, Clear Brow Gel. I love this brow gel. I’ve got a full size here and the brush/tube are fantastic. It pulls up just enough product and doesn’t leave a bunch of wet gel clumps in your brow hair. While this size is just a mini it’ll be perfect for when I travel to NYC next month.

From Color Club, Breakfast at… Nail Polish. I loveeeee getting nail polish, especially these adorable mini sizes. Birchbox teamed up with style blogger Gala Gonzalez to create this particular shade and I love it! Breakfast at… is a beautiful mint pearl shade. Two coats.

Color Club Breakfast at... Nail Polish SwatchesFrom Paula’s Choice, 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant. This feels great on my skin! My skin is sensitive so I only use it once a week, but there is definitely a difference even after only using it once. I’ll likely buy the full size once I run out of this.

From Supergoop!, Daily Correct SPF35 CC Cream. I received the shade light/medium but it’s stated to be self-adjusting. At first I thought it would be way too dark but it really did adjust! I wish the sample size wasn’t so small. It’s laughably small.. maybe two uses if you’re lucky and use sparingly.

And, as a Lifestyle Extra, from KIND Snacks, Healthy Grains Bar – Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt. I love to get these in sample boxes. These bars aren’t something I’d jump to buy normally, but I usually love the taste. This particular flavor tasted fantastic but had a chewy, stale type of texture that I wasn’t a fan of.

Birchbox April 2014 Swatches Review PhotosThere was also a “tip” from 52 Bright Ideas for a Rainy Day. My tip number was 37 which told me to treat myself to a facial and other pamperings. It’s a once a week type thing that reminds you to do something for yourself.

Birchbox April 2014 TipsI was happy with this months shipment. If Birchbox keeps it up I might just fall back in love! I do believe it was worth $10 and it was a nice mix of makeup, nail, food and skin care. I’m definitely looking forward to next months shipment!

You guys. Birchbox did so good this month! It’s full of some seriously awesome goodies, and while none are full sized I’m in love with them all!! The theme for the March 2014 Birchbox is Spring Forward, helping you change with the weather and get more out of everything (like that extra hour of daylight!).

Birchbox March 2014 Spring Forward Review Photos SwatchesAs you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.

Birchbox March 2014 Spring Forward what's insideLet’s see what’s going on for March!

Birchbox March 2014 Spring Forward contentsFrom Illume, Go Be Lovely Lavish Hand Creme. The scent I got is Anemone. I love everything about this hand cream… except the sample packaging. The fragrance is lovely, a little goes a long way and it feels wonderful. Smooth, non-greaseball hands. Unfortunately the sample packaging is a tear off, so it’ll never be able to be carried inside my purse (which is what I do with sample hand creams) or even thrown in my manicure bag.

From Obliphica Professional, Treatment Hair Serum. As much as I didn’t want to see another hair serum or oil in any sample box for a long time, I do really like this one. It smells really good and I use a small amount in my ends before blow drying. It helps keep my hair from lifting at the ends or frizzing up, and my hair needs all the help it can get.

From theBalm, How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream. The shade I got was in “Pie” and it is perfection. Perfect and natural for the lips and cheeks it’s not sticky at all and is easy to blend out with your fingers or a brush. I’m definitely going to order the full-size palette!

theBalm How 'Bout Them Apples PIE SwatchesFrom Skin&Co Roma, Truffle Therapy Serum Boosting Anti-Aging Serum. I saw this on another blog and the “Truffle” name pulled me in. Truffle makes me think of chocolate but this extract is coming from fungi (calm down it’s mushrooms). I’m excited to try the serum but definitely can’t speak to the long-term effects because it’s just a sample size that will probably last 5-7 days. It smells really good, like coconuts… like tanning oil at the beach.

And, as a Beauty Extra, from LA Fresh, Eco-Beauty Waterproof Makeup Remover. I love to get these in sample boxes. This remover wipe is safe to use on eyes and lips and is my best friend when I want to be lazy and not wash my face, but my OCD won’t allow me to go to bed until something is done. There was also a packet of the Oil-Free Face Cleanser to get at the rest of my face.

There was also another extra! A treat from Ghirardelli! It was a single of the Cherry Tango Square and it is YUM. Dare I say I like it better than the Raspberry?!

March 2014 Birchbox Photos Contents Swatches ReviewI was happy with this months shipment, probably happier than I’ve been with Birchbox in awhile. I’ve been dying to try theBalm How Bout’ Them Apples and chocolate will probably always win me over. I do believe it was worth $10 and it was a nice mix of makeup, hair, body and skin care. I’m definitely looking forward to next months shipment!

February 2014 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

The theme for the February 2014 Birchbox is Step and Repeat!  Full of amazing products to get you through awards season!  This months box was helped along by the editors at US Weekly, who are obviously experts at all things celeb.

February 2014 Birchbox ReviewFebruary 2014 Birchbox ContentsLet’s see what’s going on for February!

February 2014 Birchbox What's Inside February 2014 BirchboxFrom Beauty Protector, Protect & Oil.  More oil for the hair.  TBH I’m long over getting hair oil, argan oil… all that jazz.  This one smells yummy, like vanilla cookies, and works like all the other hair oils.

From Paula’s Choice, RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum.  This is a light and water-based serum that’s to be used for balancing skin and tightening pores.  It feels nice and absorbs quickly, but I can’t speak to the long term effects since this is such a small sample size.

From Coastal Scents, Reveled Eye Shadow Palette.  When I first laid eyes on this selection of colors from the Reveled Eye Shadow Palette (a Birchbox Exclusive) I knew instantly that I’d love it and hoped like crazy the color pay-off would be wonderful.  For the most part, it was.  I loved the look I created with the shades by putting the taupe all over the lid, the khaki in the crease, the black in the outer V and the white champagne at the inner corners and to highlight.  The black shade was dry, but worked well over the other shadows.  The white champagne was pigmented, but not very easy to blend.  It’s like it was insisting on staying in one place.  The taupe and khaki were perfection.  The shadows lasted throughout the day (over primer) with minimal fading (at the crease, very lightly) and no creasing.

Coastal Scents Revealed Palette Swatches Eye LookFrom Whish, Three Whishes Body Butter.  This body butter smells amazing (definitely a hint of grapefruit, but also floral and candy) and left my skin fragrant and feeling soft.

And, as a Lifestyle Extra, Reviver, Dry Deodorant Swipes for Clothes.  I actually really like this.  It removes minor odors from clothing and even works in removing smells from hair!  It’s marked for multiple uses but, to me, it’s for a one time only use on weaker odors.

I was happy with this months shipment, mostly because of the Coastal Scents quad.  I do believe it was worth $10 and it was a nice mix of makeup, hair, body and skin care.  I’m definitely looking forward to next months shipment!

January 2014 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

Last month I said I was cancelling my Birchbox Subscription.  And I did.  Or so I thought.  It must not have gone through when I hit submit, because at the first of this month my account got debited.  Birchbox noticed me mention it on Twitter and was wonderful about everything.  I decided, what the heck … let it ride.  I’m happy I did.

The theme for the January 2014 Birchbox is Go Time!  Full of new products and must-try trends for the new year!

January 2014 Birchbox Go TimeJanuary 2014 Bichbox contentsLet’s see what’s going on for January!

January 2014 Birchbox opening January 2014 Birchbox Swatches ReviewFrom 100% Pure, the Reparative Cream, Smoothing Night Cream and Organic Eye Cream.  Small sample packets of skin care… ugh I wish I could opt out of receiving these.  Great to try, but really you’re not going to be able to experience any sort of benefit.

From Fekkai, the Brilliant Glossing Creme.  This used to be my HG before I discovered Living Proof products.  They work a little better for me in terms of keeping frizz at bay, but the Fekkai is nice for days I want to pull my hair back or for when there isn’t as much humidity.  Take care when applying this that you don’t get too much product on the crown of your head, oil happens hard.

From INIKA, the Mineral Eyeshadow in Eternal Marine.  I had the worst time trying to get the protective coating off of the sifter part of this.  Then had a hard time getting product out of the sifter.  I’m not a huge fan of mineral makeup, but I do think this color is beautiful.  It’s got a mint green and silver deal going on, can’t go wrong there.

Inika Mineral Eyeshadow Eternal Marine SwatchesFrom Nail Rock, Glitter in Red.  I love the shade of red nail polish included in this box and it was super easy to create a fanciful and festive mani.  The glitter will pretty much get everywhere, but it’s easy to use and for once in awhile I could do with a little glitter bomb to make my tips look a little more special.

Nail Rock Red Glitter Dust Instructions Nail Rock Red Glitter Dust Review Nail Rock Red Glitter DustNail Rock Red Glitter Dust SwatchesAnd, as a Lifestyle Extra, Assorted Teas from Ahmad Tea London.  I love teas, especially in these colder months where I’m usually feeling sick and stuffed up at least one day a week.

This months Birchbox was surprisingly good.  I’m happy with what I received, especially because I got to play with some nail glitter and rediscovered how much I loved an old favorite.

In regards to continuing my subscription I’m going to let it ride.  It’s like a trial again for me…. we’ll see how next month goes!

They’re also doing a fun thing now called Subscriber Sundays!  Play to win awesome prizes every week!

December 2013 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

The December 2013 Birchbox theme is Sparkle and Shine – a perfect choice for Holiday!  Oddly, no sparkle or shine was included in my shipment this month.

December 2013 Birchbox Sparkle and Shine 2 December 2013 Birchbox Sparkle and Shine 3Let’s see what’s going on for December!

December 2013 Birchbox Sparkle and Shine 4BIRCHBOX December 2013 Swatches ReviewFrom Arcona, Magic White Ice.  This is a face gel used for instant hydration.  I use a face gel now from Reviva Labs (I need it for sure in the winter) that is wonderful, so I was interested to give this one from Arcona a go.  While it feels similar on my skin it didn’t soak in as quickly as I’d have liked it to and the fragrance was rather stank and overpowering.  At first I thought it was sweet but then it smelled like medicine.  If you like that then you’ll be pleased, as the scent lingers.  A lot.  I couldn’t get it off fast enough.

From Dr. Lipp, Original Nipple Balm for Lips.  I was really concerned when I first read that this was included.  As someone with children I know what nipple balm is used for (and I’m sure those of you without kids could venture a good guess) and as soothing as it is I’m not sure that I could put it on my lips.  For the sake of review I went for it and found the balm to be immediately and intensely hydrating to my lips.  It felt thick going on, but doesn’t feel thick as it lays on the lips.  The wear is comfortable and I’m impressed!  It’s also a multi-tasker and can be used on cuticles and elbows.  Unfortunately, a small size sample was sent and it was only about 1/4 full if that.  Bummer.

From Toni & Guy, the Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray.  I can always use a Sea Salt spray and this one is pretty awesome.  It’s got a great fragrance to it, light – but there, and gives a good texture to the hair without making it crunchy.

From dr. brandt skincare, the BB matte with signature SHINERASE.  Two packets, one in light to medium and one in medium to dark.  Meaning only one packet was useable for my tone, which was the light to medium (which was still actually a little too dark).  It’s oil-free and contains an SPF of 30.  The finish is velvety and the coverage is buildable.

December 2013 Birchbox Sparkle and Shine swatchesAs a Lifestyle Extra a Starlight Votive Candle from Green Leaf Candle Co. was also included with this months goodies.  This was my favorite part of the box, and technically the Lifestyle Extras aren’t part of the actual box, they’re just extras.  So, while that’s sad I’m happy this was included.  It’s got a wonderful fragrance even when not lit.  I have some potpourri in the bathroom that needed replaced but I just set this near it (unlit) and have a lovely, fresh scent to fill the space.

That being said, this months Birchbox was a big let down for me.  It’s hard to get super excited about it when ipsy is so wonderfully generous in what they give their subscribers every month for the same price.

In regards to continuing my subscription I’ve already cancelled.  As much as I love the referral program and have excellent customer service I can’t ignore the fact that month after month it’s been a disappointment.  If for some reason it turns around I’d definitely give thought to a renewal, but right now I’m stepping away.
