BEAUTY BOX 5 Photos, Swatches & Review – October 2013

Press Sample

Transitioning to Fall can be hard for some and downright painful for others, so for October 2013 Beauty Box 5 is here to make it a little easier on you and helping to focus on the beauty essentials.

IMG_1944 IMG_1946Even just by looking at the card above, I was excited to check out the five items in this months box, especially the Nubar!  I love Nubar and don’t get nearly enough chances to check it out!

IMG_1949 IMG_1953 IMG_2062From Aveeno, the Daily Moisturizing Lotion.  It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Aveeno.  Generally I use the Skin Relief line, but the Daily Moisturizing Lotion is still fabulous and works well.  This small bottle will be perfect for my purse when I’m feeling dry on-the-go this winter.

From Model Co, the Illusion Nude Lip Pencil.  This is a full size item with a retail of $20.00.  I’m pleasantly in love with this lip pencil.  I’m not normally a lip pencil type of girl, but this is that perfect MLBB shade that will work with all of those nude lippies that I absolutely love.  I adore the little tag-a-long sharpener too!

IMG_2049From Swissco, the Glitter Toe Separators.  I must have weirdly spaced feet, because I never use things like this.  That being said, I may start because it would be fun to stare at glitter between my toes as the polish dries.

From La Fresh, the Travel Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes.  I love, love, love getting these in the subscription boxes.  Cleansing Wipes are a lazy girls best friend and I can’t get enough of them.  Every once in awhile I just do not want to wash my face.  I know it’s bad, but I’m being real.  I’m not so lazy that I won’t wipe my makeup off, so that is when an item like this comes in handy.  I tend to keep Murad wipes on hand, since I break out easily, but this smaller package makes an excellent back-up!

From Nubar, the Alter Ego Nail Lacquer in Kristal.  How flipping adorable is this nail polish bottle?!  It’s mini and it’s flashy which makes it fabulously adorable.  It’s full of iridescent hex glitters in small and large sizes and adds pizzazz to any shade.  Below is one coat over a bare nail.

IMG_2030I thought this box was a great mix of makeup, skincare and nail.  Based off of this first shipment I’d say it’s worth the $12.00 price tag.  I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for November!

Top 10 Beauty Items Under $10

You’ll see me post a lot of high end and expensive items here (i.e. on this blog).  I just can’t stay away from pretty and shiny.  Beauty Bloggers in general (not all, but most!) have the same problem.  That’s why, for this Top 10 Tuesday, we’re bringing you our Top 10 Beauty Items Under $10!

10In no particular order:

  1. TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Collection.  I love to use the shampoo and conditioner for daily hair washing.  When I’m not testing something this is generally what I’ll go back to for healthy hair ($3.99 each).
  2. CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara.  If you’re going to go drugstore for mascara, this is the one to do it with.  This one retails for only $8.99!
  3. Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner.  Brushed Pewter is a fave shade of mine.  It goes on SO well and is that perfect color of being blue-ish grey without the harsh intensity.  A lovely every day shade for when you’re sick of black or brown.  This liners will only run you $7.49 each!
  4. OPI Nail Lacquer.  These are beautiful and long-lasting nail polishes in every color you can imagine for only $9.00 each!  In the latest collection OPI takes us to San Francisco!
  5. Zoya Nail Polish.  Beautiful shades named after beautiful ladies!  The colors are innovative, safe and they last.  The retail is $8.00 each, but Zoya is always offering deals and discounts!  One of the latest collections is Zoya Cashmeres, but they’re also gaining a lot of buzz from PixieDust!
  6. L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss.  These glosses ($7.99 each) are an easy and inexpensive way to shine up your pucker without it feeling sticky or goopy.
  7. L’Oreal 24hr Infallible Eye Shadows.  It’s likely I own 85% of these.  I just love to use them for eyeshadow bases and they are so silky to touch.  They feel luxurious but will only run you $7.99 each.
  8. Wet n Wild Beauty Eyeshadow Palettes.  This brand has really upped their game since I was in high school, even launching a collection with Fergie!  My faves are the Trio Eyeshadows ($2.99 each) and the 8 pan Collection Eyeshadows ($4.99 each).  Also be sure to check out their Mega Last Lip Color ($2.99 each)!
  9. Aveeno Skin Relief Fragrance Free Moisturizing Lotion.  The retail on this is $9.99 and it’s gotten me through some rough times.  No pun intended.  For awhile, I couldn’t put anything with fragrance on my skin.  I would get horrible rashes and have to go to the doctor to get meds.  This lotion (before blogging and learning about some other brands that also work for me) was the only thing I could use to moisturize.  It’s still also the least expensive solution.
  10. Subscription Boxes.  Yes, I’m serious.  $10 can get you a whole SLEW of items to play with and try out.  Subscription Boxes can be a gamble, but I’ve found that the ipsy Glam Bag has the best items and value, while Birchbox has the best referral/rewards system.

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Beauty Items Under $10!  Check out what the other bloggers love and be sure to tell us what your faves are!

Aveeno Clear Complexion Skincare Collection Photos & Review

Press Samples

Previously, I’ve reviewed the Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream and loved it!  Now, I’m going to show you even more of the Clear Complexion Collection!

IMG_9181The Daily Cleansing Pads ($6.99 for 28 dual-textured pads) are the no excuse, lazy people answer to taking off your makeup.  The pads are large and boast more than enough cleanser to wipe dirt and makeup off your face and neck.  It’s effective, non-drying and smells amazing.  No more excuses!

The Foaming Cleanser ($6.99) is more foaming than any other foaming cleanser could be.  And I love that!  A little bit will coat your face to remove dirt and impurities.  Once you rinse it off your skin will feel a little tight, so I only use this once a day and follow up with the daily moisturizer.

The Daily Moisturizer ($16.99) is oil-free, clears and prevents breakouts and also evens skintone!  I am in love with this, and it’s perfect to use in the morning before applying makeup since it absorbs quickly. You can use this 2-3 times a day but it mentions that you should only use it once a day or every other day if dryness or peeling occur.  Therefore, I erred on the side of caution (since my skin can be sensitive) and only used it once a day.  I do wish there were a thicker cream for evening, since I tend to need extra hydration through the night.

This collection also has a Cream Cleanser (if foaming isn’t your thing) and a Cleansing Bar for all over body treatment and protection.

My skin can be very sensitive, and while I have an oily t-zone the rest of my face can get really dry.  The Clear Complexion Skincare Collection helps to keep me clear and also hydrated.  What product from Aveeno works the best for your skin?

The Aveeno Clear Complexion Collection is available at national food, drug and mass merchandisers.  Visit the Aveeno website for more information.

It’s really no secret that Aveeno is one of my favorite brands in terms of skincare and still has some of my favorite body moisturizers.  Now there is a new product for the face said to smooth, brighten and have you looking fresh in the morning – Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream.

From the Aveeno website:

Brighten and even skin tone with AVEENO® POSITIVELY RADIANT® Intensive Night Cream. Formulated with ACTIVE NATURALS® Total Soy Complex and vitamin B3, this advanced night cream leaves skin smooth and healthy looking. This oil-free night cream will help keep you looking fresh and luminous.

IMG_1999 IMG_2002 IMG_2118 IMG_2123This night cream smells amazing, and a little bit of product goes a long way.  If you overuse it’s definitely going to feel greasy, so start out with a small amount.  You can always add on some more if you still feel dry.  I used very little and when I woke up in the morning my skin still felt hydrated.

You can purchase the Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream at drugstores or at Ulta for 16.99.

Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream Swatches & Review

Aveeno has long been my go-to with their Skin Relief line.  With my sensitive skin, especially in the dry Winter months, I need all of the help I can get and Aveeno was the first brand that I tried that got me there.

Now they’re giving me one better with the launch of their Clear Complexion BB Cream!  The shade swatched in this post is in Fair to Light and is unfortunately the only shade available at this time.  Hopefully there are darker shades to come!

IMG_7440IMG_7443What Aveeno says about their Clear Complexion BB Cream:

  • Contains ACTIVE NATURALS® Total Soy Complex to help even tone and fade marks, revealing more flawless, naturally beautiful skin
  • This multi-benefit BB Cream provides treatment to past, present and future skin imperfections:
  • Past—helps blend away imperfections from breakouts and fades the look of marks from past breakouts
  • Present— instantly evens, brightens, moisturizes and nourishes complexion with lightweight coverage
  • Future—broad spectrum SPF 30 protects skin from sun’s harmful rays and helps to prevent further damage
  • Oil-free, hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic

IMG_7447 IMG_7454 IMG_7457 IMG_7463IMG_8152The Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream provides a medium coverage without feeling heavy on your face.  On days when I’m keeping my makeup natural I can actually forgo another foundation when I use this product because it hides my imperfections so well.  In the Winter I’m plagued with an oily t-zone and dry cheeks and this product doesn’t maximize those issues or make them worse.

This dispenses out as a sort of whipped mousse like texture and one pump will be enough.  I’ve found it was easier to dot the product all over my face then blend with my fingertips rather than use a brush.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this product and the only con I can think of is that it’s only available in the one shade.

Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream is available as of February 2013 at national food, drug and mass merchandisers for an SRP of $14.99-$16.99 (2.5 fl. oz).
