If you follow me on ANY form of social media then you know that for the past two months I've been trying out the tria Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser($267.00 // tria). Maybe you're asking why... because obviously I look SO YOUNG ;) When I was approached with the opportunity I had recently turned 35 and I'm not even kidding you, the day of my birthday I noticed more eye wrinkles. Happy freaking birthday.
This post is going to be a collection of everything I've been posting on social media as well as my final thoughts on the device and if I think it was worth it. In addition to that there's a coupon code you can use to save money on the device as well as tips to combat undereye dryness and irritation.
How do I use this thing?!
Using the tria Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser easiest part of starting the treatment. You press the little button at the top and touch it lightly to your undereye area. To maneuver you simply work the laser in small, light circular motions (still keeping it lightly pressed to your skin) all around the targeted area. Once your minute is up the device will "notify" you with a series of short vibrations.
Weeks 1 & 2:
This is the hard part. Starting. Day one my pain level (on a scale of 1-10) was at a 7. I was actually sweating and didn't make it through the entire treatment. I was Snapchatting pictures of myself with breastfeeding ice packs on my eyes (don't judge me, they help a lot!). Each night it does get easier and by the start of week 2 I was able to go the full minute on each eye. After treatment the undereye area is sensitive and red (similar to a sunburn) so it's best to do this at night so that when you wake up in the morning the redness is gone. Towards the end of week 2 the dryness under my eyes was other level and I decided to amp up my skincare routine (see "Steps to combat undereye dryness" below).
Weeks 3 & 4:
The pain level was down to about a 3 or 4 but the undereye dryness was all consuming. My extra skincare steps were definitely helping and at this point my skin was shedding a bit. It was at this time that I began to feel like my eyes were looking even more wrinkly, which was not giving me motivation to continue.
Weeks 5 & 6:
Now the pain level is at a 2 or 3. I took a one night break in this time frame and I will say that the day you go back to it the pain level jumps back up a bit but does go back down the next night. I took my first before and after during week 5 and could see a significant difference (even though someone said I wasn't smiling as much) which brought my motivation to continue back up.
Weeks 7 & 8:
At this point there isn't much that is new to report. I'm a little sensitive so I'm still seeing redness though it's almost completely faded even before I hit the sack and it's no where near as painful. Basically it feels like it's been a part of my skincare routine my entire life.
Steps to combat undereye dryness:
To combat the heavy dryness the laser will cause under your eye area you're going to need more than just the Nourishing Eye Renewal Cream. I wish I would have started this regime straight away, but then that's why I review things so that you don't make the same mistakes. After using the laser I squeezed some of the Nourishing Eye Renewal Cream onto my finger and patted lightly around my eye where I'd done the treatment. Once it was spread around I used the metal end on the cream applicator to spread it more evenly and TBH the end felt super cooling and just necessary. You'll need as much of that feeling as possible, especially that first week. I do this on one eye, right after using the laser.
When the Nourishing Eye Renewal Cream has been absorbed (or at least mostly) take a secondary eye cream and pat it lightly, but generously, all over the treated area. My personal favorites are the First Aid Beauty Triple Remedy Overnight Balm or the L'Oreal Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Eye Balm. Of those two the First Aid Beauty is my top choice because it absorbs quickly and feels more soothing but if you want to save a lot of money opt for the L'Oreal - it'll moisturize just the same.
For daytime I like something a little lighter, but you'll find that a daytime eye cream is just as necessary or your makeup will look cruddy. As my first step in makeup application I've been using the First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 Eye Cream, patting it in gently all around and waiting for it to absorb. I wanted to combat undereye darkness as well as stay hydrated so I also use the First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy: Brighten, Depuff and Smooth in Fair/Medium as a second step.
I didn't start doing the extra undereye moisture steps right away but believe me, it's necessary to start immediately - the same day you begin using the tria Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser.
Is it worth it:
Absolutely. The results aren't just noticeable, they're drastic - and that's impressive (see my final before & after below and I'm smiling extra hard for the reader in my insta-comments ;) ). Yes, it was obviously painful (for me, anyway) but that did ebb away and after the first week it was tolerable. From what I understand in speaking with a few people that have used this device and also gone into a spa to have treatment this device hurts way less.
