Who doesn't love the look of a beautiful butterfly? Add in the appreciation for pigmented and well-performing eye shadows and you get the Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette, which I recently picked up at Sephora.
The outer packaging design matches the inner packaging - it's that black, thick cardboard with a ombre orange swirly design (those are technical terms).
The interior of the palette houses a nice sized & decorative side with a mirror and another side with 12 eye shadows:
- Entomology (matte cream)
- Telepathy (pearl gold)
- Tiny Death (glitter cream)
- Wrath (deep pearl orange)
- Papilio (pearl chocolate)
- Summerfly (glitter gold)
- Killing Jar (pearl copper)
- Delaney (pearl silver)
- Vanish (matte taupe)
- Disintegration (pearl brown)
- Shadow Box (matte chocolate)
- Deadhead (matte black)
Being a first time Kat Von D user I was really impressed with the quality of each of the eye shadows. Obviously, good things have been heard around the interwebs about this brand and this palette in particular, but you can't really appreciate it until you put it on your eye balls and wear it. I have nothing bad to say about any of them - all super buttery, pigmented and easy to work with. I love that it's got the neutral shades that you can wear every single day no matter what you're doing, but there are also some deep, smokey shades and that fun fiery orange shade (hey there, Wrath).
In addition to the Monarch Eyeshadow Palette I also picked up the Immortal Lash 24hr Mascara($20.00) since I'd heard such good things about it. In my experience with this mascara it didn't really do much at all for me. The wand was way too pliable and I found it hard to work with. If it would have done amazing things to my lashes that would have been excusable.. but all it did was make them look blacker. No lengthening, no curling like the description said. It's rare that a mascara literally does nothing for me. But sadly, this is one of those times.
In the eye look below I primed my eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion. Papilio is all over the lid and through the crease with Wrath worked into the crease and blended upward. Blended into Wrath and even a little more upward is Summerfly and I have a wee bit of the ol' Killing Jar at the inner corners of the eye. Entomology was used to highlight. The liner is Marc Jacobs Ro(cocoa) Highliner Gel Crayon and the mascara is the Kat Von D Immortal Lash 24hr.
If the warm shades of the Monarch aren't your thing the Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette is much more cool-toned and should make you very happy. ;)
The Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette retails for $46.00 and is available now at Sephora.
