Khaki eye balls are the best. I am your over-the-top collector of any and all khaki eye palettes. I think it's because my eyes are brown, and I feel like if I wear a golden olive or khaki type of shade it'll bring out some other color and maybe make the eyes somewhat hazel and mysterious.
I was a little apprehensive about this one, as it's a Designer 5-Couleur and the last one I tried I thought the shadows were a little gritty and not pigmented, so I never bought another. With this one, thankfully, that is not the case. I don't know if something was done about it formula wise, or if this one is just better than the one I tried (I think it was Amber Design).
In any event, I bring you the fabulous Khaki Design 5-Couleurs for Fall 2012!
I really love the combination of colors in the Khaki Design 5-Couleurs. The khaki shades pair well with the lighter golden tones, and the browned liner really makes the eyes appear large when applied.
The bottom left shade looks like it would be messy glittery, but I didn't think it was over the top. These shadows blended VERY well and I only experienced a little bit of fall out with the darkest shadow shade (top left). The liner (bottom right) wasn't super creamy and that made it somewhat difficult to use. It felt like more of a cake liner. It lined just fine, but it took longer than I would like it to. If you'd really like a dark smoky eye you could use the liner as a base for the shadows as well. Though, I do recommend using a secondary base (like UDPP) to make sure it all holds.
So how does Khaki Design stack up to the other khaki palettes from Dior? Right now, I have the Royal Khaki 5-Couleur and the Smoky Khaki 3-Couleur that I could think about comparing Khaki Design to. How is the new Khaki Design 5-Couleurs different from the two I just mentioned? Royal Khaki contains silver, white, gold, and khaki... creating a much different eye look than Khaki Design. Smoky Khaki is a little more similar, but is denser in color than the Khaki Design. It also creates a much deeper smoky eye. If you love khaki then you absolutely need all of these, because they're all slightly different. If you are just looking to snag one, go for the 3-Couleur. It's my fave out of the three!
For this EOTD I started off with a layer of UDPP. Using a firm shadow brush (MAC 239) I applied the top right shade all over the lid. I applied the top left shade in the crease (MAC 219) and blended with more of the same color (MAC 226). In the outer V I used the middle shade and blended it towards the middle of the lid (again with the MAC 239). I dusted a bit of the bottom left at the inner corners of the eye and to highlight. I put a bit of the middle shade under the outer side of the lower lash line. The eye liner is the color on the bottom right side of the palette. and the mascara is Giorgio Armani Eye to Kill.
