Out of the four eyeshadow palettes released with the Dior New Look Collection, Royal Kaki was the one that immediately called to me. Khakis, and golds, and silvers... OH MY!

I'm actually a bit unsure as to what I should be officially calling this palette... on the Official Press Release as well as on Nordstrom it's listed as Royal Khaki #454. Yet on the back of the palette itself and the box, and Dior.com it's name is Royal Kaki 454 (Kaki missing the H).... Kaki is French for Khaki. The inconsistency was worth noting in case the spelling differences are making it more difficult for you to search for the product, but essentially they mean the same thing.

What the Nordstrom website has to say about Dior 5-Couleurs Couture Colour Eyeshadow NEW LOOK Palettes:

The newest addition to the 5 Couleurs family. These shades—inspired by Mr. Dior's iconic 1947 collection—are enhanced with five satiny, iridescent and matte shades. The only way to get your Dior New Look. Available in Bleu de Paris, Royal Khaki, Grege and Rose Porcelaine.

Royal Kaki is such a dream. At first glance, it's hard to imagine how you'd be able to get all of these shades to mesh well. They DO and it's really quite easy to create a multitude of looks (for both the cool and the warm toned) from this palette.

Even the two shades (black and moss green) that seem like they'd be chalky, aren't. They are satiny matte and go on easily and smoothly. Obviously, the other three shades being on the frostier side, also have nice pigment and go on well. I was also very happy to see that the green has a very small amount of shimmer, making it less flat.

In working with these shades I experienced fall out from the black and the green when I used a firm pencil brush as well as a blender brush. I would recommend applying these shades before your face makeup.

Below we have the Royal Kaki 5-Couleurs Couture Color Eyeshadow Palette as compared to the 3 Couleurs Smoky Eye Palette in Smoky Khaki:

(L-R: Gold from Royal Kaki, Gold from Smoky Khaki, Khaki from Smoky Khaki, Green from Royal Kaki, Shimmery moss green from Smoky Khaki)

As you can see, the only shades that are really similar are the golds, and even then they're a shade off. If Khaki tones suit you, or are just shades that you like to wear, it's definitely recommended that you own both of these palettes. Smoky Khaki is probably better suited for warm tones, where as Royal Kaki could work for either.

The New Look Eyeshadow Palettes also have an insert included to help you with your eye looks with tips and diagrams:

For my own eye look, as usual, I wanted to incorporate all five shades. Starting off I used UDPP as a base and applied the top left gold shade all over the lid and through the crease. I think took a pencil brush and put the middle moss green shade in the crease and above. Using the same pencil brush I patted on the bottom left black shade in the outer V of the lid and crease. Taking a blending brush I picked up more of the middle moss green shade and blended the crease and the black shade so it all "worked" together. Taking an angled blending brush I took the top right shimmery white shade and added it to the inner corner blending up above the crease and using as a highlight.

Next I lined the top lid with Chanel Khaki Dore Le Crayon Yeux. I took the same pencil brush used as before and picked up some of the top left gold shade to smudge this out. I then also lined my waterline with the same liner. Using an angled eye liner brush I placed the bottom right silver shade to the outer lower lash line. I finished the look by adding on Dior DiorShow New Look Mascara.

If the below look is too smoky for you, I recommend nixing the silver color and rather than using the black to define the V and outer crease, use it for a liner instead.
