Off and on I've been on the hunt for the perfect burgundy toned eye shadow. Not too brown, not too red... a lot look perfect in the pan but once I get them on my eye they're simply just a chocolate shade. Finally I spotted Clinique Black Honey All About Shadow Eyeshadow Single on the display at Sephora, swatched it and brought it home with me.
What Sephora says about Clinique All About Shadow Eyeshadow Single:
What it is:
A luscious, long-wearing powder eye shadow.
What it does:
This creamy shadow glides on in one smooth stroke for long-wearing color, and is formulated to be crease and fade resistant. It is available in soft matte, soft shimmer, or super shimmer finish. Matte finish shadows give fine lines and wrinkles a softer, smoother look. A hint of soft shimmer shadow dabbed into the center of lids adds a pop of brightness. Super shimmer shadows act as highlighting shades to bring out browbones and inner corners of eyes. Try light shades for a more dramatic effect on deeper skintones or dark shades for a more natural look. Dark shades look more dramatic on fairer skins; light ones look more natural.
What else you need to know:
All About Shadow Singles are ophthalmologist tested, and appropriate for contact lens wearers or those with sensitive eyes. The mirrored compact comes with a sponge-tip applicator.
Black Honey has a chocolate base with a hint of rose peeking out... and also known as a "super shimmer". Don't let the words super shimmer scare you away from this beauty, the shimmer isn't that apparent, especially when worn on the eye. It's just got this slight metallic sheen to it. Black Honey as a shade is really quite beautiful and the formula was wonderful to work with. I found this shadow very easy to apply and blend. Impressively, it lasted the entire day over an eye primer.
The EOTD (after applying UDPP) is simply Tarte Bikini Eyeshadow on the lid (from the Aqualillies Palette) with a wash of Clinique Black Honey blended through the crease and outer V. I used Tarte Barefoot Eyeshadow (from that same palette) to blend out the crease all the way up to the brow. The liner is Marc Jacobs Ro(Cocoa) Gel Crayon and the mascara is Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant and Too Faced Better Than Sex layered.
At the end of the day Black Honey isn't exactly what I had in mind, but I do love it and it's a lot closer to the idea I have in my head than any other eye shadow that I've tried.
How would you wear Black Honey? Any suggestions for a fantastic burgundy eye shadow?
