If you're oily you know that the search for good mattifying face makeup is never-ending. Lately some new foundations have been popping up that have really made a difference in keeping oil at bay. Now there's a base for that - Benefit The POREfessional Matte Rescue Invisible Finish Mattifying Gel ($28.00 // Sephora).
Matte Rescue is said to be "an invisible-finish, mattifying gel that instantly minimizes the appearance of pores". The gel is water-based and though it squeezes out of the tube a light minty-blue shade it is clear when you apply it to your face.
When I used this gel I found that it went on easily and dried down quickly to a matte finish. My makeup applied nicely over-top and stayed matte a bit longer than normal. My skin usually feels greasy by the end of the day (even 8 hours) and every time I wear this, at that point, the oil isn't so profound. There is still definitely some shine and oil, but not as much as normal - and my pores do appear to be less noticeable when I have it on. Hey, I'll take all the help I can get!
I didn't find that using this with a primer made it work any better or any worse. When I use this daily I use it alone without another primer on top because that extra step just didn't make any difference for me.
Will it completely mattify you all day long and get rid of the oil creeping through your makeup? No. But it does help, and it helps a lot more than I expected. It's definitely a new staple in my beauty routine and I'll keep using it until they do it one better.
