The new Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks ($18.00 // Sephora) feature a comfort matte finish or a metallic finish and are said to be "a waterproof liquid lipstick that lays down intensely pigmented color that lasts". I tested three of the shades in Disturbed, Conspiracy and Studded to see how well they performed.
Disturbed // deep brick red, comfort matte
I needed two coats for this to be completely opaque and even, but the resulting color is perfect. Staying power was REALLY good. By the end of day just a bit had faded at the center but it wasn't noticeable unless I looked well. NOTE: This is an Urban Decay website exclusive color.
Conspiracy // metallic plum-bronze shimmer
I needed two coats for this to be completely opaque and even. The first coat was sheer, but even-ish... it actually looked toned down and pretty cool. The second coat gives you the full coverage and the pigment. It dries down more brown but I loved the end result. Wear time wise it crumbled within the first hour a bit at the center but it wasn't noticeable until after I ate and the center disappeared.
Studded // metallic gray-brown
I needed two coats for this to be completely opaque and even. With this shade the first coat will be semi-sheer. When you do the second coat make sure you're only swiping from one side to the other one time. Swiping the wand back and forth will make the color streak. If you swipe one time in one motion it'll be perfect. It stays on well through drinking but after eating a meal the color at the center of the lips was gone.
Final thoughts. I completely LOVE the applicator (which is that long, slanted, sponge-paddle). While they do feel drying (the metallic more-so than the comfort matte finish) they're not uncomfortable and certainly not the worst I've tried. After you eat a meal they feel more drying than when you first apply.
Based off of these three shades it appears like the metallic finish impacts the wear time quite a bit. I was impressed with the staying power of the darker shade and definitely want to pick up some of the lighter and more neutral shades to see how they do. I'm thinking I'll need Naked, Brat, Trivial and Backtalk. I'm so predictable lol.
