Whether or not I agree with some of Ariana Grande’s life choices I do agree with her latest collaboration for two reasons – it’s gorgeous and, most importantly, supports a great cause. MAC VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande ($15.00 – $17.00 // Nordstrom) is the latest launch from MAC where every cent from the selling price goes toward helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
If you don’t know what the MAC AIDS Fund is all about make sure you go to the website to check out the mission, history and past collabs!
MAC VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande Lipstick ($17.00 // Nordstrom). This lipstick is described as a deep dark plum. The formula is matte. Now, they aren’t kidding when they say “deep dark”. This looks almost black on the lips. It looks couture. It is not for the faint of heart. It is temperamental. This is not a lipstick you can just go ahead and apply directly to your lips. It doesn’t apply evenly so make sure you exfoliate well and get a lip liner like MAC Nightmoth to wear underneath. Since this shade is so incredibly dark it’s best to apply it with a lip brush, which will also help it apply more evenly. If you follow me on Snapchat (blushingnoir) you already know that this lipstick will leave a stain, which is a good thing because it lasts around 6 hours and is easily revamped on the go with a clear or light gloss (like the VG AG Lipglass below!).
If vampy isn’t your thing or you like it a bit more glossy they have a lipglass for that.
MAC VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande Lipglass ($15.00 // Nordstrom). This lipglass is described as a light shimmer pink. The shimmer is strong on this one but it isn’t overdone and even though the base color is semi-sheer it looks really pretty on. Now if you don’t like lipglass because of the sticky factor then you’ll probably be passing (unless you’re a fan of AG or a MAC VG Collector). This is just as sticky as the others – which doesn’t bother me, but it’s worth mentioning because I hear about it a lot from readers and on forums. The lipglass formula only lasts about 2 hours for me, closer to 3 if I don’t eat or drink.
My favorite way to wear this duo, and this is going to make me sound so lame, is to apply the lipstick and let it set for a bit and then wipe it off (!!!). After it’s wiped off and the stain is left behind I apply the lipglass. It gives the lipglass more of color, almost a lavender tint, and makes a beautiful Spring shade.
The swatches below are done on bare skin (no primers):
