My Mother’s Day this year was pretty laid back. We hung out at home, I sort of slept in, my mom came over for brunch and we went to DH’s mom’s house for the afternoon/dinner. That’s usually how it goes every year. I like as little stress and as little activity as possible, since so much of our normal day-to-day is constant on-the-go. Our moms are the same way. But I hear the stories. Fellow moms talk about the travel, stress, nagging… unreal expectations out of kids. All I can think about when the venting ends is “Girl, you need a spa day”, which brought me to creating a list of item’s you need for Post Mother’s Day Survival.
Step 1: First and foremost you want to focus on items you already have at home. After all of that drama over the weekend who wants to go to the store? Drop the kids at school, take the day off of work if you must and head to the most local of all stores (only if necessary) to pick up anything you may need. Gather that as well as the items you have in the cabinets and get it organized. You don’t want to be in the middle of a soak and suddenly remember that you forgot your fave scrub.
Step 2: Run the bath water to your desired temp. Mine borders on scalding. Throw in a bath bomb, oils, bubbles.. whatever you like. Eucalyptus always relaxes me and I love lavender also. Sink in.
Step 3: While all of that is percolating apply a mask. I tend to love those mud masks that dry on your face and leave little holes where all of your pores are. IDK why but I love the feeling of it drying and then seeing all that junk.
Step 4: My bathtub area isn’t all that big so there isn’t room to set things like a beverage or candle nearby. Candle wise I light something that will coordinate with whatever scent I’m using in the tub. I hold off on a beverage (it’ll come later, trust) and opt instead for Ricola® Revitalizing Herb Drops. Maybe it’s from talking all weekend, maybe it’s a bit of allergies… maybe you’re just exhausted… but the throat gets dry and it gets scratchy. Ricola® Revitalizing Herb Drops are famous for their unique delicious taste and are effective in providing soothing relief (the secret is in the Chrüterchraft!).
Step 5: Remove the mask and hop out of the tub (not literally, because you’ll fall) and into the biggest, fluffiest, softest robe ever. Or a silk robe, because maybe you’re into that 😉 As soon as I’m all dry and comfy I pop on a set of eye gels to take care of any signs of puffiness or exhaustion that may be left over.
Step 6: As your eye gels do their magic slather on your fave lotions or creams alllll over your body. I like to take my time and really make sure I’m not missing any areas and that I’m working all of the cream into my skin.
Step 7: This step is more of a preference. Mani/Pedi time. If you want to leave the house, get someone at your favorite salon to do them. If you don’t want to leave the house and/or want to save some cash DIY it with a mani kit and a bright, happy nail color.
Step 8: If you’re still at home, get dressed. I know. Wearing pants sucks. Alas, so does jail so if you’re picking up your kids you’ll need to put some on. Kick back with some tea, lemonade.. whatever you’re feeling and do something where you don’t have to think. Read a novel, watch Ellen… NAP.
No matter what goes on you’ve always got love for mom, but you need some love too and you can’t be the best you without some pampering and taking care of yourself.
How do you decompress from a stressful holiday?

To de-stress from holidays or from anything else I usually take a long bath with a cup of chamomile tea, a LUSH bath melt or some bubbles, then apply a thick layer of body oil, and go to bed early. Usually helps me wake up recharged 🙂
