I’ve had my March 2014 Wantable Beauty Box for a few weeks now. It hasn’t been at the top of my “to post” list because I wasn’t really excited about one thing that was in it. That fact was shocking to me because I loved, loved, LOVEEEEDDDDD my first box back in August.
Anyway, let’s lead off with a little bit of what Wantable is all about. Wantable is a subscription service aimed to provide curated, hand-picked boutique makeup (from brands such as Lise Watier, Cailyn, Color Club and Japonesque – just to name a few!), jewelry items and now even intimates.
The best part about Wantable is that everything is full sized! You’re not going to receive any samples or small sizes of makeup and the jewelry will be customized and also limited edition items.
Wantable is the most customized subscription service I’ve ever come across, and they actually take into account what you log in to their “quiz”. Because it’s so customizable, you’ll likely never see the same exact box within blog reviews. Start out by choosing a category – makeup, intimates or jewelry (I chose makeup but it was seriously hard to decide, because jewelry is also a HUGE love of mine!). Then you take the personalized style quiz. This is fabulous because if you hate receiving eyeliners, you won’t get them. Ever. Same goes for nail polish, lip products, mascara…. anything! You could say you like eye shadow and hate everything else, and you’d get a whole box of eye shadows!
Okay, so why was I so disappointed in this box when it’s so very customizable? Well, the paper says that you’ll mostly be getting stuff you marked as “love”. In the photo above you’ll see that in the top right corner they show you the stuff you marked as Love, Like and Dislike. Most of the stuff I received was in my “like” category. It’s really so silly, because I don’t hate the items that I got, but the shades are just not right for me. Maybe the customized profile needs some subcategories?
From Mistura Beauty, Mistura Retractable Brush. This was my favorite part of the box. I’ll likely use this brush for powders (though I generally reach for a brush like the Sigma F80 for that purpose) but it wouldn’t have been top pick for me. However I’ll never say no to a makeup brush. There is a home for you here.
From Liberty Republic, SPELLBOUND Nail Lacquer in Belladonna. The formula on this sheer-ish ballet pink shade was wonderful. It painted on easily and was fully opaque in two coats. I did like this, but was disappointed in the color I got. As you can see from the card below there are some hot shades and I’d have loved to try something a little more exciting from this new brand!
From DEX New York, Lipstick in Mermaid Avenue. As soon as I opened the tube and saw this I was like NOPE. It’s a frost. A heavy frost. It’s more apparent IRL than in the picture and while the shade is this plummy nude the golden frost throughout is heavy, and not my cup of tea. (You can see the frost better in the arm swatch below with eye pencil).
From MiA BelleZZa, The Ultimate Eye Pencil in Medium Brown. At first glance I thought this was an eye liner. No, it’s for your brows. Which normally I love to get, but it’s got a reddish tint to it and does not match me at all. Sad faced.
Would I try Wantable again? Yes. I feel like it’s only been two shipments – one I was ridiculously in love with, this one I wanted to throw out. I figure the next shipment has to be good because third time is always the charm and also if it’s a pattern I’m due for a good one! I’ve already tweaked my profile a bit but I am skipping April’s shipment. Hopefully by May I’ll just get over it and re-order. Because I love to get mail. WOOO mail!
Subscribe for $36 a month or, if you just want to try one month it’s a flat fee of $40. You’ll get an assortment of items valued at $80 or more. You can also invite your friends and earn referral credits! You’ll receive $10 for each friend that signs up once they place their first order. Use your credits towards future purchases. The more you share, the more you earn!
Will you try out the service? If you’ve gotten them in the past, let me know what you think!!!
