May 2013 Birchbox Swatches, Review & Photos

After several extremely disappointing Birchbox shipments, the April box saved my affiliation with Birchbox by the skin of it’s teeth. The theme of the May Birchbox appears to be Beauty Diaries.

As you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation, game and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.

Let’s see what’s going on for May!

First up, Beauty ProtectorProtect & Detangle. It’s a detangler. It works. I had to pump my bottle about 50 times (not kidding) to get the first spray to come out. It has a vanilla scent, which I’m not a huge fan of but I know others die for it.

Next, from FusionBeauty the LipFusion Infatuation Lip Fattener. This is meant to subtly plump lips, and it definitely does at least give the appearance of that between the shine and the shimmer. The shade I received is Angelic and it’s a pink shade saturated with golden shimmer. Really pretty!

From Joie, the Folle de Joie eau de parfum. It resembles Clinique Happy but a little softer. I didn’t like it when sprayed into the air but I love it on me.

Fourth, from LAFACE Laboratories, the DEFLECTION Day Cream with SPF30. I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t try this on my face. It arrived opened and in one of those 5g sample jars you get MAC pigment samples in. It grossed me out and didn’t seem hygienic. I dabbed a bit on my hand and it seemed moisturizing and not odorous. But, sorry, not putting that on my face.

Finally, the AcroBall PureWhitehybrid ink pen. I know. BUT. I freaking love me some stationary type items. This is my favorite part of the box. Stop laughing at me. It’s pink. PINK! And makes my writing look super pretty. Also, it really fits into the Beauty Diaries theme. There is a coupon on the back of the card for $1 off and I’m using it today =D

To me, this Birchbox was bordering on meh. It wasn’t as bad as March and February but wasn’t as good as April. I’m undecided if I want to keep my subscription. ipsy is really pulling out all the stops with their Glam Bag, which is making Birchbox (what was once my favorite $10 subscription) seem kind of junky.
