Make Up For Ever 4 CHESTNUT, 14 LIGHT ROSEWOOD Aqua Rouge Lip Color Swatches & Review

Because of the awesomeness of 8 Iconic Red, I decided to make it my business to head to the mall and pick up a few more of the Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge Lip Colors. I chose two shades in 4 Chestnut and 14 Light Rosewood. I would have gotten a third but it was sold out! It seems I’m not the only one who is in love with this product!

What the Sephora website has to say about Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge:

What it is:
A liquid lip color that provides the intense and long-lasting hold of a lip stain with the eye-catching shine of a gloss.

What it does:
Formulated with a combination of high molecular weight polymers and volatile oils, Aqua Rouge locks color on the lips for a smudge-proof result that will not transfer or fade. Its intensely pigmented formula provides immediate, opaque color with extreme shine, and its creamy, non-sticky texture glides effortlessly on the lips for comfortable wear.

What else you need to know:
Aqua Rouge’s double-ended packaging allows for a simple, two-step application: apply lip color with precision using the ergonomic, foam applicator and evenly distribute the clear top with the polyester brush to lock the color onto the lips.

Chestnut (4)

(Aqua Rouge)

(Aqua Rouge + Clear Top Coat)

Chestnut is a nude peach. With this shade, I didn’t exfoliate before applying, and as you can see the color flaked and didn’t adhere nicely in the middle. For the shade below I did exfoliate to show you the difference and how important it is that you do this. (Not gonna lie, I hadn’t intended to use this as a lesson, but it’s fun to share).

Light Rosewood (14)

(Aqua Rouge)

(Aqua Rouge + Clear Top Coat)

Light Rosewood is a vampy rose, plum shade. The Aqua Rouge color alone is just a rose plum, but with the Clear Top Coat it becomes a vampy raisin shade.

The pigment on the two shades are rich and saturated. Formula wise there is a slight stick as the product adheres to your lips, but it’s not entirely uncomfortable and I wouldn’t mind wearing just the color alone as a matte lip. Though, Light Rosewood especially, is stunning with the clear top coat. The top coat is perfect for giving off that glossy feel or reviving the color as it dulls (though will not disappear).

I spoke of the wear and removal of this product on the Iconic Red post, and my thoughts haven’t changed with these two other colors. They’re just as amazing and drool-worthy!

Tip: Exfoliate your lips before applying. I cannot stress this enough. If you don’t exfoliate, the product will look like it is flaking on the dry areas of your lips.
