MAC Grand Galaxy, Modern Pewter Extra Dimension Eye Shadow Swatches, Review, and EOTD – In Extra Dimension

Originally, based off of swatches I’d already seen, I didn’t plan on picking up any of the Extra Dimension Eye Shadows for myself. As I was waiting for an MA to come over and grab my items for me I went on a little swatch fest… and fell hard.

The two shades I settled on, Grand Galaxy and Modern Pewter, were chosen mostly because I wanted to create an eye look with them. I had first grabbed Sweet Heat to pair with Grand Galaxy, but Modern Pewter had such an interesting tone to it, I couldn’t pass it up.

What the MAC website has to say about Extra Dimension Eye Shadow:

A liquid-powder Eye Shadow with prismatic reflections in ten shimmering tints. Impact ranges from sheer crystallized light to a highly polished metallic effect. Lasts up to 6 hours.

2 g / 0.07 US oz

Grand Galaxy(dirty midtone violet) is a deep purple with flashes of silver and blue. I experienced quite a bit of fall out with this shade when using it dry, but the shade is so stellar it doesn’t even matter.

Modern Pewter(dirty olive gold) is more of a silvered gold with a hint of green. It’s really very interesting. Sometimes I’ll be like… oh it’s a light vintage gold… and other times you see that hint of olive and get confused. It’s beyond me why this isn’t sold out yet!

Overall, I’m enamored with these shadows. I love the formula and the feel. The pigment is phenomenal and they are really easy to blend and apply.

They didn’t last well on their own with me, but then most shadows don’t. If you apply them with a base underneath you should have no issues. There are absolutely going to be a few more of these in my future.

Below in the eye look I used these shades dry, but you can try using them wet for a more metallic look. I am spending Easter with some family today and I don’t like to go TOO crazy with color around them 😉

For this EOTD I started off with my usual thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion. Next, using a firm brush (MAC 239) I patted Modern Pewter all over the lid. Using another firm brush (MAC 219) deposit Grand Galaxy into the crease and outer V. Using a blending brush (MAC 234) blend Grand Galaxy up. Using the same blending brush I picked up a bit of Virgin Silver Metal-X Cream Eye Shadow and applied it as a highlight shade.

For a liner, I used MAC Heirloom Eye Kohl on top of the lid, adding a bit of Grand Galaxy on top, and then on its own half way on the lower lid. The mascara used is MAC Plushlash.

Voila… the perfect Easter eye ball!

MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadows retail for $20.00 each and are available at your local MAC counter or store, as well as at Grand Galaxy is sold out online, but you can check your store or other retailers sites for availability.
